Am i the only one that thinks the option to report someone for verbal abuse is ridiculous? I mean theres a mute button..I really don't see the point in having both

Mute is to stop further damage. Reporting and punishing for toxicity is to prevent future damage.
It's because while you can mute to temporarily solve the problem, reports are a means to permanently solve the problem. Welcome to boards.
