Notification about starting qs at b5 when I logged onto League?

I made it to gold a few months ago and I haven't really played ranked much since, because I went from s3 to g5 in like 3 days. Just to get there and be done with it. However, I did join a ranked team with some silvers (buddies of mine and hubby's) and we lost one, won one, and we didn't play in the team after that. It ended the season in b5.

I'm not sure if playing with my silver and bronze friends has anything to do with this, and I go positive in my games like 85% percent of the time even if my team loses, but I got a notification this morning when I logged in about starting q at b5? And not to worry, most players start at a lower rank than they were. I'm confused. I don't remember getting a notification like that last year, but why so low? I'm not sure if it's because I lost a lot of games with my silver friends that I do enjoy playing with and maybe my mmr is low because of it. Does that mean that next season I'll start my placements being paired with bronze teammates?
