Chat punishment VS Mature language filter & Unnecessary Bans, ETC.

Why is there even a language filter if you fart in the wrong direction and catch a chat ban, ruining the opportunity to receive hextech rewards. This is a provocative and violent game and people are being punished for their right to freedom of speech. Redundant punishment system, RIOT. Thoughts, anyone?

“Freedom of Speech!!!!!”

Doesn’t apply. No really. If we’re talking about American law, the First Amendment only applies to the government making laws that prohibit speech and, even then, freedom of speech isn’t absolute. For example, you can’t incite a riot, plan to kill the president or yell fire in a crowded theater.

Also, there’s nothing in the First Amendment that protects you from the consequences of your speech. People are fired all the time for making derogatory comments about their employer. My workplace, for example, has a social media policy that says that I can be terminated for badmouthing the company. They don’t ask for passwords and access as some companies have been known to do, but it wouldn’t be all that difficult to find me on the internet, knowing my real name, phone number and address.

Muting and chat filters aren't an excuse to talk the way you like either; players shouldn't have to plug their ears to pretend you are behaving, you just need to be sportsmanlike on your own. When they are forced to mute you, you've probably already created a negative experience for them, and censoring doesn't really apply to anyone but children that don't know what is being censored; when anyone older than that sees the word censored it has little effect because they know what goes there, or even worse because they're being made to think of the possibilities.

having a chat filter doesn't mean you can incite hate speech

Do you even know what Freedom of Speech actually means here in the USA?

Uh freedom of speech only applies to the government. Maybe try exerting some self control instead of being toxic.

The filter will only stops words by marking over them with punctuation - someone still knows you're swearing and flaming them, and if you're a mildly intelligent human, you don't need to see the word if you can see the context. Plus, other words typically used by flamers aren't bleeped. So yeah, you can still be reported even though it's filtered because the chat filter doesn't filter away the asshole that you are exhibiting.

Ah yes, the old confusion. It is not called "mature language" because that is how adults speak. It is called "mature language" because it takes a certain degree of maturity to understand the contexts in which it is appropriate to use it.

There is no mature context in which NerdRaging is considered acceptable behavior.
