Mental Issues and 3 Banned Accounts, How Riot can Empower Individuals Instead of Only Punishing

I never play any mode in League except ranked, no ARAMS, normals, AI, and that rotation mode unless I am leveling an account. Pertinent because my only experience in League is in ranked matches, not for “fun.” I have also never intentionally fed or AFKed in any game of League, this would be counter to wanting to only play ranked because nothing matters except competitive play and winning, trying, climbing. I have never told anyone to harm themselves in any way or used any racist or extremist language. So what have I done to see three accounts banned?

I have, on multiple occasions, been negative and/or accusatory of team members in particular when I think (in my OPINION) they have made an egregious error during a play or a macro-play where they didn’t rotate. All the negativity is focused on gameplay, not race, sex, ethnicity, socio-economic status, etc. it is about the game. I am accusatory and quick to shift blame, calling out others when I am surely making bad decision as well. Does this benefit myself or the team? No, except the cathartic feeling of letting out your thoughts / anger about a situation as an individual, which is a real thing.

Are there tools available in-game to immediately deal with the situation arising from negative chat? Yes, there are mute features easily accessible, but there is no tool or solution to someone afking or intentionally feeding. Yet, the community has focused punishment more upon a problem which is solvable immediately by any individual in-game while other infringements that truly ruin games and to boot often incur punishments for others responding to those actions are rarely acted upon.

I also have mental problems, like many others do. In fact, according to The National Institute of Mental Health and many other organizations major depression is “one of the most common mental disorders in the United States” affecting over 16.1 million adults (in the U.S.) or approximately 6.7% of the adult population. I have diagnosed depression and anti-social psychopathy (no, that is not Hollywood psychopaths sorry) which obviously have physical manifestations like impulse control resulting in things like pathological skin picking or you know…”raging” in chat about the game while playing League. It’s a problem, it takes time and a lot of work to fix but it is what it is and gets better. So, why is the community so focused on punishing a problem they can immediately resolve themselves when the person being negative / raging in chat has no tools to fix the problem. Muting other players is not a tool to prevent an impromptu rage, because it is never in response to something written, it is in response to gameplay and you cannot mute the gameplay of your team.

So what would be a tool I am talking about? Being able to disable chat, which means I cannot type. Typing causes nothing but deaths in all but the rarest occasions, regardless of the content (e.g. flaming or positive). How many times have you seen someone die or you died because you were trying to type in-game. That is why we have the ping system, because it is how to communicate effectively in a moba. This would help a tremendous amount in reducing instances of spontaneous rage in chat, but I have begged for this and Riot has refused it. I made request # 23874412 six months ago and have my logs below for reference (excluded Riots since essentially it I “no”, but am happy to provide) but it resulted in no help from Riot. Please note this request was BEFORE the permanent ban on that account, because I knew exactly what would happen and was trying everything I could to prevent it, but again Riot refused to help. Keep in mind we can rebind hundreds of keys in League, but curiously not the Enter key which controls chat, so again no assistance in curbing a known issue about yourself.

What am I asking with all this? The un-ban of an account would be the clear goal, but I know there is no chance of that happening. In truth, I am just tired and saddened by Riots lack of action to actually help players and actually reduce toxicity in the community. So maybe 0.00001% of the time this posts catches a Rioters eye and they decide to provide tools to people begging for help in curbing their toxicity when it is 100% based around negative chat. No afk, no feeding, no racism, no misogyny…just negativity and finger pointing. Because I don’t think it’s ok to erase thousands of hours and hundreds of dollars for negativity and finger pointing that people don’t even have to listen to.

I have included the chat logs I have access to below for reference because I want to show what I’m guilty of and not pretend. You’ll find childish finger-pointing, negativity, impetuousness, clear rage (mashing keyboard pretty clear on that), but nothing truly horrific like “kys” and the like. It’s negative chat from lack of self-control, and in my opinion since it is immediately erased through the click of one button not sufficient for the destruction of thousands of hours of someone’s life.

I also think, there is a trend of improvement or at least tempered rage as a result of my treatment but that could just be me, and not like Riot cares about trends, just innocent or guilty. These logs are incomplete (e.g. not always 10-day, 25-day, 14-dan ban, Perma-ban) because I did not always copy the reform card and I have no idea if it is possible to go back to old reform cards, but I don’t think it is. If a Rioter can give me all the logs I am missing that could be useful in treatment.

Anyway, I expect little or nothing from this soliloquy but I guess just like raging in chat it’s cathartic in its own right. Oddly enough, this was inspired randomly but seeing “Riot Tantram” on these forums actually responding to people. So I thought, hey maybe instead of 0.00001% the chances of this doing anything are 0.0001%. I think if Riot actually attempted to reduce toxicity by empowering people to help themselves and not just using a blanket, mechanically imposed system that only punishes and only succeeds in create more creative toxicity it would be well received.

I am requesting assistance in disabling chat. I am aware you can /mute all, but I have to do this every game and it still does nothing to restrict MY capability of chatting, only from seeing others chat. I cannot understand why Riot expects someone who recognizes their own failings to improve immediately as a person instead of providing a very simple tool to cease 99% of negative situations.

I also found a reddit post from 2015 with the following instructions, if you refuse to assist can you please confirm if this post is accurate and allowed by terms of service to execute.

Download AutoHotKey from http://www.autohotkey.com/ and install it. Open notepad and paste this: ifwinactive League of Legends (TM) Client Enter::return NumpadEnter::return Save that as "Disable Enter.ahk", it should look like this: Double click that and as soon as you open enter League of Legends, your enter key will be disabled however in every other program it will be fully functional, you can even alt tab and have your enter key work completely and tab back in and its disabled again.

It seems completely counter-intuitive that it is your main tool for punishing and control toxic players, but someone requesting it preemptively to prevent ever being toxic is not allowed. It's literally like you're setting a trap and not letting me prevent it from triggering. Muting does nothing in League, because YOU (so myself in this case) can still type. So, if you have a mental problem where outbursts are one of the affects muting other people does absolutely nothing because I can still see everything they do, and don't do, in the game as teammates. I really cannot understand why Riot refuses to assist me but instead is just waiting for me to make a mistake instead of allowing me to prevent it. Can this be escalated to another tier of Support please?

Something you might care to note, is that League of Legends actually has an amazingly robust PINGING system designed specifically because PINGING is more efficient than hitting enter and typing because typing is distracting and gets you killed. So please don't hide behind the thinnest of excuses. You don't want to help so you aren't helping, there is nothing more I can do and this has been a very sad interaction with the highest level of assistance available in the richest and largest game in the world.
