It's a game. It's a thing people do for enjoyment. Not many people enjoy having someone insult, provoke and belittle them for 30 minutes of a 35 minute match. Not many people like that the only response is to not play this game they enjoy... or to mute that person and let them go on being massive jerks to everyone else.

Imagine if EVERY time you turned on a show you like, or a movie or game or whatever.... imagine that every time you start it up, someone appears on the screen and insults you personally. Imagine playing a game and every time you mess up a jump, or miss a goal... or just do something dumb... the game calls you a moron and tells you that you're worthless. Imagine a movie in which the main characters tell you that you suck once or twice a scene. While it might be oddly funny at first, it would get old FAST. It's annoying, and rude, and not what people want to deal with while playing a GAME. You wouldn't play the game that called you a worthless shit every time you made a mistake. Or watch the movie that said it hoped you died every other scene.

This is a PROFOUNDLY stupid example... but yeah. That's why people dislike toxic behavior. Maybe you enjoy getting shit from people when you're trying to enjoy a form of entertainment... but most don't. Most want to play the game and have fun.
