"Playing the Victim" Culture Still Worse As Ever

TL;DR: Came back after 4 mos on Dota 2, went on an insane tear, and got blockaded at Silver 4 by teammates "playing the victim" and report-shaming my account for basic human interactions.

Came over to League of Legends again from Dota 2 because of a friend, and it's just incomprehensible how this community behaves in ranked games. I just wanted to write a warning to people who think they can get anything out of this game playing solo queue.

You can't. It's a downward spiral. Or, just pay for boosting.

Your skill will be capped by "care bears" that only join ranked games to feed their egos by psychologically abusing the players that are trying to actually win the game. Any type of simple interaction, advice giving or, conversation, can cause someone to spontaneously start spouting off the word "toxic" and subsequently stop participating until the team loses, all in the name of "evidence" toward some tweaker rabbit hole of a report.

This will happen in ~40% of your matches once you hit Silver 5 elo. They just don't care because of their demotion protection. I chalked it up to placements putting people meant for low Bronze elo into my bracket unintentionally. Either way, you must pay for boosting to escape this elo bracket, there is a mire of players who are only queuing up so they can fall behind and report others for trying to motivate them.

In Dota 2 this does not exist. The game is not centered around report-shaming, the map is much bigger, and you can outplay an entire enemy team with your hero if you are skilled enough with their mechanics.

The good players always rise to the top because of this, and the bad players who want to play the victim continuously fall into low priority queues where they must Win-out a number of games before they can go back to trolling normal queues. Which is essentially oblivion because they will get caught in a cycle of losses due to their habitual victim playing.

I know the devs wanted to make a friendlier MOBA but, the reporting system is completely broken and it has attracted the worst kind of gamer to infest the servers. Imho, League is a psychological experiment more than a game at this point.

Funny, the good players always rise in league too. Maybe if you aren't climbing it's not because people are to sensitive but because you aren't good enough. Looking at your games there are clear problems with your play that have nothing to do with the attitude of your teammates.

I think your theory is correct on why that happens in low silver. I didn't play for a few years and started messing around with LoL again recently. I played normals until I got readjusted and then tried ranked. I won a good chunk of placements and it put me in silver III but silver III was much more competitive than the normal games I was practicing in so I quickly dropped down to demotion shield Silver V. As you suspected I think there are a lot of new ranked players in your games that haven't adjusted to the difference between normal and ranked play yet

I'm also now in a Limbo like you describe. I wind up climbing back to silver III and right about when I hit a 50% win rate I enter a long series of massive losses and go back down to Silver V demotion shield. This has happened 3 times now, it seems odd of course that I'm cycling up and down in long streaks, I don't take lol super seriously and don't think I'm "tilted" I give it my best every game. I feel I've grown a lot as a player since I started ranked and am confident "past me" would get easily beat by "current me" but I do just keep going up and down on a 3 division roller coaster indefinitely with the silver V demotion shield being my safety net. When I'm on my way up though it feels like I'm playing a totally different game than when I'm on my way down. It's a bit hard to gauge anything when shifting back and forth between stomping games easily to being the worst lol player in the world.

This was posted yesterday. What exactly is the purpose of reposting it?

It blows my mind how a gold player playing on your account (getting boosted) will get you out of silver but you, being "better than silver" playing on the account will keep you in silver?

I have yet to see any study that showed flaming or being a douche to improve your skill.

I don't know how you interact with people in game but maybe it's about how you talk to your teammates instead of whether or not you talk to your teammates?

EDIT: Also, trying to modify behavior is very difficult on such a large scale. There are millions upon millions of players. How do you get those millions of players to all not be ass hats?

With the number of people you encounter on the internet, how do you make sure they're not ass hats in an efficient and reasonable way?

At the end of the day, Riot is still a corporation. They depend on money. If the cost in effort to curb specific behavior outweighs the benefits it gets, they're not going to invest their resources.

They have to find the most cost effective but also efficient and accurate way to deter those unwanted behaviors and that's not an easy task.

It happens but it is fun. Players calls it trolling but RIOT rules permits it. As long as you have brain - not feeding and not verbally abusing others you can play with others emotions freely rather than playing actual game.

I started playing Dota 2 after a false unwarranted 14 day ban. It seems to be way better then league community wise.

Had an zed that was Pinging me to gank his lane when I was trying to get scuttle. he was 2 levels behind the enemy Kat and he was at about 130 hp amd Kat was pretty much full hp. I refused and started walking away. He whined bitched amd moaned for 5 minutes straight. Then a similar situation happened. I was at scuttle he was 15-20% go he started spam pinging me so I said ok, this dipshits got to learn some how. So I went in knowing full well he was going to die. I was kindred btw, my ult was on CD. So he dies INSTANTLY. Amd I mean instantly. I ended up getting the kill but his first words. "Kindred ruined my lane, dont ever come mid trash jg".

Hahaha hahaha I just can't even.

Oh amd what you are describing is the internet as a whole. This is not exclusive or worse in league of legends. It everywhere. Dont kid yoirself if you think league is "the most toxic community" Hell I've read some thing about Minecraft that makes league look like rainbows and, butterflys
