I'm So Toxic, Not Banned & Trying To Figure Out The System.

Hey guys.

I'm making this post to have a discussion about the report system in place. I'll start by laying down some home truths; at this moment in time I am one hell of a toxic guy but not in the sense as to blindly insult others for no real reason. Its a reactionary thing that when someone insults me, I'm too stubborn to just mute them and leave it at that, I feel like I have to get back at them in some way. This usually results in me stopping to play completely, making sure the guy loses and most of the time sending them into a frenzy of how they just lost LP because of me. Now I know this is a silly thing to do and all but I really have no control of it, to be honest. I'm a bit mental and I realize this is completely unfair on everyone on the teams but that's just the stubbornness in me I guess. All I'm thinking about at the time is trying to get a one up on the guy, when it doesn't benefit anyone at all apart from the enemy.

I've been reading a lot recently on the player behaviour forum, and I've seen people banned for what seems like a lot less than what I usually do in ranked games to my own teams. Whenever I have one of those games it usually sets me off on a streak to ruin other peoples games, for absolutely no reason other than still being angry from the previous game. Over the past season alone I have ruined 200+ games of ranked just from being in this state of mind but I have never once gotten a ban for any of my actions despite doing more than other people get banned for. Have I been chat banned? Sure. Have I had countless lower priority queues? Sure. My last chat ban I received was well over 800+ games. I never managed to finish the restriction before everyone's chat restrictions got lifted. I imagine if I did manage to finish them I would've been slapped with another one anyway. Now to most they would see that as a fresh start right? Slate is clean and they can get their ranked rewards.

The reason i post this is because I want a further insight into the report system, thoughts on how to handle not trolling and ruining games for others, and perhaps people's personal experiences with the report/banning system. Overall I want to stop this behaviour as I know it will get me banned at some point. it may have even gotten me banned already and Riot are just yet to have to get to me. From my experience, banning seems inconsistent as I have had friends banned for being less troublesome than myself. I've also submitted boosting tickets to support before and nothing has been done about the player in question who I know was 100% getting boosted. Just want to hear what people think of the system and if anyone has any advice for a toxic loser like me :^)

Love you guys

Soul

Well the first step to reform is admitting that you're a jerk, which you've already done here and now. You are right in that trying to get back at the rager is not right, as now instead of dealing with 1 jerk, your teammates are now dealing with 2: the original and you. What you need to try to work on is to just mute and report them if they do start acting up rather than trying to get back at them and ruin other peoples games just because you're mad.

What I would recommend is that if you're extremely frustrated after those games is to take a break to calm down. If you go into a game all stressed out, then you'll make more mistakes than you would otherwise, both behavior wise and gameplay wise as well. As far as chat goes the general rule is that if you wouldn't say it in real life then you shouldn't say it online. The more time you waste trying to type out insults the less time you have to actually play the game properly. The same goes for trying to troll the other player with your champion abilities.

If you have to rage, do it at the screen and not in-game. If you have to type something out, before you hit enter take a moment to ask yourself "Is this really needed and/or helpful?" If the answer is yes then go ahead and press enter, and if it's not, don't. It is definitely possible to type allot and not get punished for it as long as you're trying to be neutral or positive. Also, don't worry about pre-made reports, for as long as you know that you're doing nothing punishable then you won't be punished for it, they will for false reporting you.

Ultimately though we here can only do so much to help you reform. Yes we can offer you tips and advice, but you have to be willing to take them to heart yourself.

I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

Muting everyone at the start can help. I know you said you feel like you have to respond, but if you set it up so you can't see triggering comments in the first place, it might help. I've heard about people disabling the Enter key so they can't chat.

I also remember a pro player who would bring a pillow to matches and punch it when he got frustrated.

Maybe find a buddy who can remind you to chill if you start getting annoyed.

Try watching for good plays instead of focusing on mistakes. If you've gotten used to paying attention to what your teammates are doing, it'll be easier to shift your own behavior if you transfer focus, rather than stop cold-turkey.

Actually, yeah. I mean, you can still say "Good Job" or something if it's worth it, but if you don't fire back at them, it removes a lot of the power they think they have over you.

If you feel that this is a pattern of behaviour you experience outside of Lol as well, in your daily life, you might want to consider psychotherapy focused on emotional regulation. Would a frustration in AFK-life, say someone cutting in line or throwing a slur your way, make you go off in the same way?

I like to restrict myself to saying things that are approved by riot already like those things they programmed into the game and my champion says anyways regardless of if I repeat it.

A well timed "They are privileged to die at my feet!" or "Getting kicked into a well is the least of your worries!" can be almost as rewarding as any insult or vulgar language and has the added benefit on not violating any rules (otherwise riot would have to ban themselves or something I don't even know ha ha).

As a final alternative try to queue with at least one friend when you play and sharing the unfiltered version of how you feel with them through a voice chat completely avoiding typing to the player you have an issue with, you can blow off steam and not be subject to riots strict behavior guidelines and automated systems as they don't control or monitor your speech in Skype or similar programs.
