New To Ranked

Hello, everyone! This is my first post to these boards. I'm hoping someone can assist me with some advice on ranked. I recently hit lvl 30 and have tried my luck at ranked three times so far. Ranked is definitely more challenging than regular game modes. I thought it would be fun to play and all I see is players yelling at each other and cursing at each other. I see more friendly players in regular mode. The play style is much different as well. It is very frustrating for me because any mistake I make I get flamed the whole game. I personally do not respond with negativity, i just ask to please stop with the unsportsman like conduct and then report. We cannot win if everyone is angry and spanning profanity. Is this what it is always like in solo ranked matches? I have friends that are in their 20s and can't wait until they are 30 because playing with these types of players makes the game not very enjoyable.

My other question for the community is some advice on things I should do different in ranked versus normal. I wish instead of flaming people were friendly and attempted to help others; however, i have not encountered any players like that in ranked. I main Vayne ADC and alt Katerina mid. Thanks in advance for anyone's comments-please, let's keep it friendly! :)

It'll get better in 20-30 games. Right now you're being matched with players not at your skill level. Just do your best, try to last hit the minions, and mute the flamers.

You main two very good roles for this wet work of climbing bronze (ADC and Mid). Sorry to hear that your time in ranked has been negative. However, with friends like these one must learn to carry. While Vayne does have a tremendously good late game, it's somewhat rare that you will get there due to the nature of the game nowadays. Since it's your first time in ranked you'll most likely be placed somewhere between bronze and silver. While the majority of bronze and silver players are bad at the game and lack good communication that you seem to output, you'll have to deal with them. I too, was a victim of this mentality til' I told myself, "Whatever happens, i'm just going to do my thing and stay positive." I highly advise against muting everyone if that is what my previous comment implied, but in these two leagues, it's pretty much free for all. When you get "fed" or ahead of the enemy in kills or what not, help others get ahead too. This is a common thing that is missed by most bronze-silver players. They're selfish and they only care about KDA. Sometimes you'll meet the occasional ray of sunshine but not too often. If you do however, you could try adding them and duo que if they synergize well with you and aren't negative. Another possibility is that you could start maining a few more hyper carries and try to steamroll a lead through each game. This is a bit risky because if you don't, you're less likely to be as influential if the game drags on. Furthermore, if you're at worlds end with ranked you could always main jungle. At first, I didn't because I didn't have the champions nor the experience but each has generally the same base mechanics (clear times, objective control, WARD GAME). This may take time as you'll need to learn a bit more than a laning role. I main Shaco and Kassadin, when I play them, or any assassin, I tend to let greed wash over because if you get fed, you can assassinate easier, gank easier, influence more as said before. To summarize, it all comes down to how hard can you carry and your attitude toward your teammates. I hoped this helped and feel free to contact me in game for tips/info on the jungle, or mid lane mages. I'm not a sniper at marksmanship but I can help with skillshots, positioning, and the like. It won't get better until mid season, and even then it will only slightly improve if you're lucky. If Riot rolls out any big changes mid season, then it will be just as bad then as it is now. Play normal games for fun, ranked is miserable. Always has been, always will be.

Most people just want to win and are more competitive in ranked.

Its not too long ago since the soft reset, so there are people whom are high ranked being ranked with the lower ranks. The higher ranks obviously know stuff that the lower ranks don't, and alot of them start raging when the lower ranks make mistakes.

I finished bronze1 in season5, back into bronze5 with the soft reset. Right now I'm playing within the Bronze5 division mixed with low silvers (soft reseted into bronze4 /5) and people that didn't know what an "Aegis" was. I've seen them move super far away from minions just because Blitz starting walking closer towards them. One support main refused to hit the minions even though he had 2 Relic stacks, saying that it will take CS away from me. I mean .. its bronze division, theres alot of them that don't have enough knowledge of the game. Some people are willing to teach, but most will flame, as there is an expectation that they'll have a certain knowledge of the game.

If you haven't read up all the items, you better learn that. Also, playing every champion a few times (Use them during free rotations) to get an understanding of what that champ does helps you get knowledge of the game, at least you'll know what you can build in defenses against certain champ.

Try different roles as well, as a support main, when I play ADC, I can tell what the support is trying to do, and can capitalize on the synergy more. I've concentrated on jungle for a short period of time, which helped me understand pathing, gank timings (which allows me to ward at certain times / locations to not waste wards), map awareness and priorities.

I know this is going to sound a bit blunt, or offensive maybe, but...

1.) Don't be dumb?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ywhB-2h2AE In bronze it really doesn't happen like this so perfectly, but in professional and higher elo its a lot better.

2.) Don't go jungler and be stupid, I know with the new role system you are like Okay I will try jungling, but let me tell you the problem its happening a lot its an infestation and its costing me, and 3 other players lots of games (Junglers who are either Griefing) or have no idea what they are doing.

. By definition (Don't run into a lane without thinking about what you are doing first, you should always ask yourself before going in.)

1.) Am I going to be helping my team-mate? 2.) Does the lane need a gank. 3.) How much HP does the enemy have. 4.) What skills does the enemy have (Is there flash up etc.) 5.) Does my ally have (CC) (Snares Etc) (What skills does I have as a jungler.) 6.) If unsure ask in chat first before just throwing a user off. (This has happened 4 times today at least) and its very stressful not being able to really do anything

The reason this is all important is because there are many games where a jungler just runs down my lane before level 6 this is a huge issue because #1, You take XP from your laner, sometimes its not a problem, but for the second issue you contribute nothing and chase a low HP enemy off when your lane is about to get ahead and make them back, the problem with this is your lane player might be countered by the enemy and the enemy has more CS so if you just made them back when your ally could have gotten ahead you just ruined the game hard for your allies and its more likely they feed or have to roam/lose lane.

The reason for asking all these is because it determines how likely it is to be successful, as well as if you should actually gank or not, of course there are sometimes if a lane is already doing badly and giving kills you should try to do something, but (Griefing) is a report worthy offense and doing this upsets me as a player, and other people and you will get reported for it often, because you ruin those trying to advance who have skill to advance but you drag them down yourself.

3.) Understand the importance of Cool-Down Reduction, on Leona, Sejuani, for example you need 40% or 45% with new masteries best way to go, you should be building a "Frozen Heart a lot of the time" and "CDR Boots" at least a lot of players talk back to me about this but in bronze when ur team screws up and ur on cooldown but ur game is lost because ur ult is a 60+ Second cooldown instead of a 36 second cooldown then you just cost the game for everyone?

4.) As Leona seriously please don't leave until your dead, this is a bit of an overstatement, but a lot of leona players run, you should have 40/45% CDR you should be able to effectively stun lock an entire enemy team or key players that are needed to be done.

5.) Focus the ADC/ APC isn't always the best thing sometimes you need to focus the support.

http://www.lolking.net/summoner/na/23564572#runes Look at rune page #17 as an example of what I like to run as a support what little I play it.

6.) Use "Quick Cast" In options if you don't know what that is look here.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSssIe-6TZM

. You should be able to Move, and cast skills at the same time.

Use Alt + E for example on nidalee to heal yourself or on other various characters for self casting ability.

Use Flash + E + Q +W on Leona or other various champions to go into fights.

Learn to ward jump on Jax, Katarina, etc.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COMxyqKwqR8

Learn when to use "Move Speed" to win games especially on assassin based champions.) (No I don't mean move speed items fully but like "Boots of mobility", and AP Move items like "Lich Bane" and such.

7.) Last thing Don't TahmKench Bard unless you know what you are doing half the time you will just be one less useful on your team and, throw games out the window easily especially when u screw up the ultimate in group fights, Yes really I get players who do this to me, even Kindred players using their ultimate to troll, a good fight we would win gone to waste because it is misused (Another reason to report players.)

8.) Don't ask for reports, or Threaten to report (its report worthy itself.)

So if you want to actually advance in Ranked Good Luck, if you actually like jungle and are a god jungle and you get a decent lane or two who can also play then you can easily advance.

Ranked play, at least in lower elos, is a test in willpower. Stick by the code "say something nice or nothing at all". If someone is flaming and being toxic do not, I repeat, DO NOT engage them in conversation as this will only lead down a bad road. They are clearly tilting or in a negative state of mind and will not respond to anything well including constructive criticism. Most players, however, are fine but there are the people that do rage. They will definitely stick out more than the players who say nothing because of the annoyance they cause. Don't let it get you and enjoy your game and focus on doing your best. If you keep doing that, you will have a lot more fun and probably climb more easily.

I don't know. I got put back in bronze for the ranked reset, and didn't encounter one troll or afk all the way climbing B2 to S5. It wasn't until around mid silver that the trolls started to pop up, and even then it wasn't very often. I feel like Dynamic actually did a decent job reducing a lot of autolocks and people getting pissed about not getting their role. Everyone I've played with is just kind of silently determined to climb back up, so everyone doesn't talk and does their thing.

you need to get a lot better by playing normals 5v5 first before tackling ranked.

you are dieing a lot and not cs'ing very well.

Put it this way... getting out of bronze is more about staying positive and keeping calm than actually being "good"... you just need to be okay. I've gotten out of bronze twice now.

Get your CS up/play safer/stick with only a few champions you enjoy.
