Removing muted players pings

One of my personal biggest annoyances of late is ping spammers; the ones where you take one step they don't like, and you suddenly have your screen filled with 5 MIA (Question Mark) pings. The most aggravating thing about this is that you can't mute pings, only chat. I would appreciate a separate mute for pings because often, they're trying to help the team and aren't trying to be toxic, but the pinging makes it unbearable.

Edit: Trying to say that /mute wouldn't automatically block pings, something new like /no-ping would, so you can still see one or the other, based on preferences.

At first I wanted to disagree, then I read it again and got your OP right :-D

I strongly agree. If someone gets muted, in 90% it is for a good reason - they are toxic or spamming chat-box. In those cases there is 0% chance they will use pings as intended and not for more trolling or annoyance.

+1 and I hope someone in Riot is putting this into their notebook with Monday meeting topics :-)

EDIT: good thing is it won't affect players with chat restrictions so they can use ping to communicate and show behaviour improvement (that was my first concern)

I don't agree with this. Personally, I mute every single person in my games because I can't really tolerate how toxic the community is and the chatbox gets annoying when you have people in the game being a douche to people just to be a douche.

However, I use pings to follow up. Sure, they spam pings, but then after maybe 5 or so, they get essentially restricted. If the person wants to spam pings to annoy me, I let them, because they won't be able to spam them for a while afterwards.

There really are solid arguments for both sides. I am seeing a lot of people posting interesting pros of muting pings for muted players so instead of reiterating what was already said I will post some cons.

Removing the players ability to ping teammates is killing off his only form of communication at that point since he is muted. League is a team based game so completely removing the ability to make communication at all really hurts this concept of a team game. This being said I know people are going to say the whole "I died and he pinged MIA on me 5 times to tilt me" and I see the point but nothing is perfect. At that point the player isn't trying to win he's just trying to be a jerk.

Players that want to mute an annoying teammate now need to be afraid of missing any calls they make. Player that tend to mute all players in the game at the start now can't mute them. It is completely reasonable to not want to have to see your team and the enemy team typing stupid stuff or memes but now that player is efficiently completely alienating himself from the team and can not function as a team player since he is basically hoping that he can read the teams movement as a sign of what to do like engaging or playing defensively. I have no issue with players muting everyone at the start of the game because pings are a fine source of communication. I have never had a jungler that would type he was currently walking into my lane (not just going towards it from bot side, ACTUALLY engaging in the gank) he would just use the ping.

I hate pings too, here's how I got past it.

I put master ping volume on 15 so you can just barely hear a ping. Then I started playing characters that require map awareness.

Low volume ping spam isn't tilting at all, and with my increased map awareness I don't need friendly pings anymore cause I'm looking at the map every five seconds.

Searching for a champ and ran across this, and glad its on the boards.

Read the whole thread. A lot of people have the wrong idea, and let me say I feel bad this happened to this game, were its got so bad that people now auto assume and have gone single minded about matches that :

  1. If your quite entire match and just enjoy playing the game without drama, your considered a Bot IE something not controlled by a human player, even though not one person thinking this can demonstrate this act as even being a real thing themselves. Riot can make / run bots, not sure if outsiders really could at this point. Anyways

  2. Most people just Mute All, Mute Sounds including Pings because Hey, if its that important get ahold of me after game, send a real personal message I can myself forward to the company I really gave money to, and lets see were it goes ;). Don't like my wink emo... to bad . Refund, lawyers and the sort are a bitch, trust me. If your not grown up enough to realize real money is / could be involved every time you think you should tell someone what to do in a game they decided play, that's really not there fault. (imo) I'm more of a Foot to Ass kind of guy when it came down to real money and gaming.

So, ok people like to say riot doesn't want people to ignore there team ? ok, a team they found for you and its in the category of Solo-Qu?

No, think Riot wanted you to find / make friends and when teamed with real friends that can be added / deleted from a list there wouldn't be such a problem.

So no again to thinking I should be or anyone else for that matter , willing to accept being shat on every 1-2 seconds by not only rude chat that has been allowed to slide by choosing to Mute All now those same very rude players get to Ping / Block / Obstruct my playing game view with a ton of little Enemy Missing in fact covering up targets if done enough and filling up the MIP-MAP at same time....

If you think this a contestable topic please refer above to Foot to Ass, and try.
