Hiding Player's Ranks and MMR
Hello,
In the lower Elo (Bronze 5 - Platinum 5), people tend to rage as soon as the game starts because they were able to see the ranks of their teammates and the ranks of their enemies and compare them. For example, in my last game, this support started complaining about being matched up with a low ranking team and being placed against higher ranked opponents. Thus, this person focused solely on doubting his/her team rather than trying to play the game. Ultimately, we ended up losing because of the overall demotivating atmosphere that this player created. There have been many other instances in which your own teammate becomes a chat enemy because of their view of what rank a person is. Within the lower Elo games, rank does not necessarily mean skill level. I believe a proper solution to what I would call, "rank shaming", would be to hide current player ranks and mmr for the season from being viewed on third party sites. By doing so, the only references that players have would be to look at the stats and skill of the player rather than focusing solely on their rank. On another note, the issue of group queues or duos being premade was resolved by removing the ability to see who the player is in a queue with on third party sites such as lolnexus.
Thanks,
-Mini
