Toxic players make me feel like I don't want to play

I had the most horrible encounter tonight. I was minding my own business playing some casual aram with teemo and we had an almost all mage team against us. I sucked, probably because of the three beers I had and well tried to have a nice start in the weekend. Then two guys came along insulting me all through the game, even though they sucked as well "stealin" if you can even steal kills in aram and just being plain horrible, stating because i sucked so bad in the game i must suck in real life and so on. I'm in a bad place in my life right now and playing league has been a joy and though I realize many of these people that say horrible things are 14 year old boys, I would just like to remind everybody to be kind while playing. Words hurt, even coming from stangers. Even if somebody plays bad, it doesnt give anybody the right to insult. Have a nice weekend!

Sure, there is no reason to be toxic...but this is the age of the keyboard warrior. If you can't handle someone "trolling" you for "kill stealing" and saying you "suck" then you honestly have no business playing this game or venturing the Internet.

but we don't know what was said...and I"m sure the OP doesn't want to go into details since it obviously hurt him... of course there will always be trolls and toxic people, but that doesn't mean that it's acceptable.

Things go on in people's lives that to make words said effect them more it isn't our place to judge that...I can relate because I went through it sadly

Thank you for your kind words and I'm a girl so maybe I'm soft anyways, but I dont think that gives anybody the right to be a dick about somebody playing a game. And normally I wouldnt be sad I guess, I have a thick skin. But thank you anyways :)

Haha, being a girl myself, I can totally relate too but if something bad is going on in your life, you have every right to be soft and have things bother you...it makes you human.

Which actually brings up a point.

The internet is a cesspool of poor behavior. It's been that way for as long as it has because everyone is anonymous and usually unpunished for behavior what would normally have them socially outcast or thrown out of whatever establishment they were in.

Since that's just the way things were, it became acceptable and expected behavior.

And now here we are. A company has set the behavior rules of their establishment in a high stress game. But a great deal of people still hop in and expect to be fine acting the way they do in the rest of the internet, like shit. Kinda sucks for them.

But if people can be expected to act like civilized humans in real life, it should be possible in a situation where people are given ample time to think about what they type.

Dude, the internet has nothing to do with it. Play anything competitively, like football, or fighting games. People will be in your face, showering you with spittle, and telling you that you suck. It's the nature of competition.

I play smash brothers with some random people in my area. If a person starts getting offensive they don't get to play.

The person (or establishment, or majority, etc) in charge of the competition gets to set the rules for acceptable behavior between the two competing parties. In this case, it's Riot.

Doesn't football punish the team for excessive celebration after a touchdown? And I believe it's not unheard of for professional sport players to be fined for poor behavior.

I completely disagree, I think being on the internet has everything to do with it. Look at professional sports, even after a really bad play, teammates aren't running up in the face of the person who fucked up and hurling insults at them. They know they fucked up, maybe it's different in high school, but when it comes to the best of the best, they don't do that shit.

On the internet, you don't have to be face to face with someone, they are just words on a screen, not an actual person. This makes it easier for us to rationalize doing/saying things that ordinary we wouldn't. It's easy to insult people in front of a screen, where the consequences are minimal at best. Saying things in real life has consequences, and the consequences tend to be more severe.

Yes I do actually, well mostly just football. In fact the only time I remember players yelling at each other is TO and McNabb and that was over 5 years ago. And suppirise they lost that game. So yeah it happens, just not very often.

At practice that's another story, but during a game, flaming each other is counter productive.

Your own team, no. But the coach may chew you out. But opposing players treat each other in a way that would make the mods of League of Legends cry. Surely you can agree there.

I will agree somewhat, and honestly I think a lot of the people here need to toughen up some. I think there do need to be limits, because there is no trash talk in saying something like "kill yourself you fucking Riven %%%got" (quote from an actual game I've had).

No...I wouldn't stand up for a stranger getting flamed on in League....cause Rito will permaban you for involving yourself in the situation. I guess my point is...I am neither the "troll" nor the "robin hood" in any of my games. I hardly ever read or pay attention to chat, except for when it is applicable to any situation. So I am in the, "who gives a shit what people say to you in-game" camp...at worst you see them 1x for 30 mins and then you move on to the next game. Who cares...they don't know you well enough to be able to personally offend you ...they are simply blindly trying to insult you. Who gives a shit.

Ironically, most of the people who get flamed are the people who play ranked and treat it like its some sort of fuck around league and then except people not to get pissed off. Going with your RL analogy. In RL people who suck dont get into competitive things they get removed completely.

I'm sorry you had to experience it...sadly there's a lot of cruel, mean jerks out there that seem to like to get off to being toxic and verbally abusive to other players. Best thing you can do is mute them right off the bat before you start playing. I've had to do that many times when I left an abusive relationship and I was very sensitive about everything. Keep your chin up...there are good league players out there that make the game worth playing. Sending good thoughts

Same, happened to me I was too stressed at the time and, I over-reacted. But, I now know that blame the player not the game. So I'm reinstalling LoL. I'm a idiot.

That just happened to me in a BOT GAME , yes .. a BOT GAME ... 4 premade starting to getting mad because i got the most kill in the Team and begin to insulting me for nothing ... Reporting this kind of players is impossible when your 1 and they reporting you for nothin when they are on premade ... i just don't know to deal with that ... sorry for my bad english that not my first language ...
