Trolls and Negative Players: An immediate Solution (VOTE NOW)

As we all know negative players damage the gaming experience when playing any game, especially games like League of Legends where having a co-operative team is crucial to having a fun and positive experience regardless of winning or losing. I'm sure we can all relate winning is great, but speaking for myself I've had fun in games where a loss happens just because the team was positive and tried to win together. Regardless of the score at the end of the match.

In regards to negative players the Tribunal system works, however it is "after the fact." Only after a negative player in other words a "troll," someone who takes joy in harassing other players, and "throwing" games on purpose has done so a number of times, and has been reported, will they be punished for it. Not to mention this issue becomes worse when people have multiple accounts, some of which they use to throw games for fun. The Tribunal system does not seem to work very effectively for people with multiple accounts, if one account is punished the user can simply login to another account and continue to harass players and lose games on purpose, and repeat this process indefinitely.

Although the Tribunal system has improved the gaming environment it does not provide immediate relief, for example; Players that are in a match with a negative player must play the entire match until it's over, wasting their time and creating a snowball affect of negativity. I'm certain each and every one of us feels a bit upset when playing LoL when stuck in a game with a negative player, even after the match is over.

There should be a method to forfeit the match and cause just the negative player to receive the loss similar to the Remake Match option when a player fails to connect to the game. This method would allow a teammate to initiate a "kick player vote," the team would then vote on whether the negative player should take the loss, and the match be forfeited. Along with the negative player receiving a short ban from joining any new games (for a few minutes).

By having the above described option, it prevents "trolls" from having fun at the expense of other players. Below is a list of key points that would occur if such an option existed:

--- Immediate punishment for the negative player (a lost match, with a time limit which prevents the player from joining a new game right away) --- All players would refrain from being overly negative/harassing others know that the team could "kick" them for bad behavior --- The rest of the team does not have to suffer being stuck in an inevitably lost match with the negative player --- There would be a reduction in the usage of multiple accounts by negative players to throw games for fun. The match cannot be "trolled" if the match is forfeited by the team and just that negative player takes the loss along with not being allowed to join any new games for a few minutes. --- A reason which promotes negative players improve their behavior immediately ---Immediate relief from negative players, keeping the gaming environment fun

There is an issue that could arise from the above system being implemented, which is players could "kick" other players just to prevent a loss for themselves at the expense of one player (who may not have been negative). This possible issue can be prevented: by only allowing players to have the ability to start a "kick player vote" once per week. So players would save their ability to initiate a "kick player vote" for matches which actually have negative players, that the team does not want to continue playing with.

If you believe this idea has some merit please comment and share this page with your friends. I believe that the League of Legends community is a positive one, it is obvious that the game developers, and moderators do care and are constantly trying to improve the game. If we get this thread popular and have it noticed by the moderators, and developers we can make a positive difference and implement something along the lines above. Making League of Legends a more positive gaming environment for everyone!

Thanks so much for your time and have fun out there in the field!

Sincerely,
Catagus

*UPDATE

I really appreciate all the responses, especially criticisms because it allows for improvement of the idea. As many members from the community have pointed out the biggest concern with the above suggestion is the fact that it could be used maliciously example:

  • Kicking players for having a bad game
  • Kicking a single player to allow the other 4 to avoid the loss
  • Premade players trolling Solo Players

Now that the flaws are well known what possible solutions/modifications could be done to improve the idea? Also I would like to point out this idea is not for rude players, more so for players trolling games for fun causing the rest of the team to be stuck in that losing game for 20 minutes. As always all responses are appreciated, especially constructive criticism that has the potential for improving the idea. If we are able to address the above flaws thoroughly I will create a new thread with the modified system for a new vote and discussion to find and improve any further flaws if possible.

Thanks again all!

How does this account for 4 man premades that would just force through votes on people that pick champs they dont like?

Thanks for the response, I have updated the bottom of the main post. Finding flaws and the attempting to improve them is crucial, and your response is very helpful!

The tribunal has not even existed for years. Check your facts if you want to be taken seriously..

This would be extremely heavily abused and just add to the toxicity, while solving nothing.

I never stated anything about the duration of the Tribunal's existence be it years or weeks, so I don't believe any fact checking is needed. I simply stated that it punishes players after the fact and not immediately.

If you could elaborate on how the proposed system would be abused and create toxicity that would be appreciated, that's the point of this thread to create some discussion and hopefully a solution for this issue.

Also, if in your next game IF a player decides to run down mid and die starting from the first minute of the game and repeat this process of dying again and again. To my knowledge the Tribunal can do nothing for you and your team for at least 20 minutes. That is my reason for creating this thread, to create some discussion about that issue.

There is no tribunal. Explain how it punishes people. I will assume you mean instant feedback, which is completely automated and has nothing to do with the tribunal..

If you are really wondering why this wont work, look at it like this: The goal is to cure the incredible amount of trolling and toxic behavior, right? So the solution is a system that is based on player honor, that can just as easily be used by a smart troll or a premade to kick and penalize the first person who complains on the grounds of "being toxic", or simply used by a premade to harass randoms?

Makes sense.

Riot has vetoed this system several times, and it has never worked in any game or other social environment. Abuse skyrockets to incredible levels almost instantly.

actually it works quite effectively in WoW. however in wow their is no penalty to the kicked player other then having to requeue

No it does not. Since the beginning of Legion I wasn't encountering one vote kick that was directed against a troll/afk. It's everytime the same shit:

  • Not doing enough dmg (that mostly hit the healer lol ... because people are stupid as fuck and don't realize that the person is the healer)
  • Tank doesn't pull enough
  • DD/Heal inadvertently pulls something
  • Dude doesn't know the Dungeon
  • Dude doesn't share his loot
  • People get kicked in m+ a few seconds before the endboss dies, just to deny loot for them (for what ever reason)
  • a lot of stupid things like "don't like tauren" or "he's jumping to much while fighting" and so on And you know what? People vote mindlessly yes... (myself never got kicked, but I saw a lot of tries against other persons ;D)

These are all valid points for another game. But none the less many of these points and what your getting at can be related to the suggested "kick player" system being abused heavily and being counter productive. I appreciate your responses along with the responses of others. It has been made quite clear that the majority of players who voted did so do to the potential misuse of the suggested system.

I have updated the bottom of the main post of this thread to allow discussion on how the system could possibly be modified to prevent malicious usage. Thanks again for finding flaws it's the only way we can fix them!

I disagree about there not being an immediate solution because you can always mute them

Catagus1 votes

Hey I appreciate the response, the thread is directed more so at individuals who throw games for fun, and not just at players being rude.

Example if someone is sitting in the Nexus all game and not playing, while being toxic towards others, sure they can be muted but that doesn't change their behavior or the fact that they are sitting in the Nexus being rude not playing the game. Wouldnt it make sense to kick the player?

Bettnachleger3 votes

Wouldn't it make sense to kick the guy who's having a bad game? People would do that ....

Catagus1 votes

That is a valid point as many have pointed out, and by far the biggest flaw for the system could be used against players that aren't trolling. Ironically enough I just played a game with an eve that ran into Top tower until 0-7-0, I really wish there was some system out there to help against players like this, I do appreciate the responses and hopefully myself or someone else can think of a better solution. I have modified the bottom of the main post of this thread to promote discussion on how malicious usage of the system could be prevented. Thanks again for the responses!

I voted no. It's just making another way for people to game the system.

Catagus1 votes

Hey thank you for the response and also explaining your vote, and yes that is a good point I'm hoping some good discussion can happen here and a solution be found which cannot be used maliciously, my idea was just my thinking... not a perfect plan, just something to get the ball rolling. I can see the odd match happening where people may cause one player to take the loss just so the rest don't have to, which would be horrible.

Ivannn1 votes

Bullshit. Negative player> feeder. Toxicity doesn't exist if it's directed from someone who's doing well to a feeder.

Catagus2 votes

Hey I appreciate the response, that is a good point, a good player with a high score can be toxic and many prefer that over having a feeder on the team.

But as I said in the post the thread is directed to individuals who throw games for fun. Not just players being rude, as user "420 Grams" pointed out there is a mute button. Toxic users can be reported using the Tribunal system, and muted. But a player that is running down mid dying on purpose for fun can't be "beat" and the team has to wait 20 minutes to surrender and everyone takes a loss because of that one players trolling.

You cant justify being trash by calling other people trash.

ok so i voted for other, i thought ur idea was really good, and i was sort of leaning to the agree button, BUT i thought about it....what about games where we go in rank, all solo @, and say our adc was doing bad, he gives first blood, and dies a 2nd time, and a 3rd, its not intentional, but at this point, hes too far behind and its pretty much a tilted lane, is it fair for the team to troll the vote of "kicking a negative player" just because someone is having a bad start?People would use the system as a means to get out of a loss game, at the expense of the person whose having a bad game. i mean if u can find a way to work out the kinks of this idea, i would agree....pls respond

Catagus1 votes

Thanks for the reply! And yes as many others have pointed out the biggest flaw is the system being used maliciously. I hope myself or someone else can come up with a modified idea that would be worth presenting to the community and developers. Ironically enough I was just stuck in a game with an Eve top lane that ran into top tower repeatedly and did not talk during the game at all, the end game score at 20 minutes for the player was 0-7-0. Both teams reported the player however our team took an unjustified loss because of a troll.

I will be modifying the original post to ask the community what possible solutions exist that could prevent malicious usage.

Cat Dancing1 votes

I agreed with your idea but after having read some of the subsequent comments, I think they give some good arguments for why your idea would be abused. There's always the "under belly" of every good idea. The very people you are trying to control could abuse this system.Zyra

Catagus1 votes

Thanks for the reply, and the comments left by yourself and others are good, it makes it quite clear that malicious usage of the "kick player" system would be counter productive. This is good because after identifying flaws we can discuss possible solutions. I will be modifying the original post to ask the community what possible solutions exist that could prevent malicious usage. Thanks again.
