Its that old saying, "Two wrongs don't make a right."
Even if your team started the fight the problem is you continued to harass them back. This is why we have the ping and mute button. You can still communicate with your team with those tools. Riot system does not go into detail on who started what. The point is that you were negative, used verbal language, or perhaps trolled. Even if you were defending your self you were still in the wrong. I apologies that this has happen to you, but the system does not have a grey area.
If people flame you just mute them, simple.

they don't care about how your teammates behaved when it comes to your account, you are responsible for you actions. if you team flames you then mute them, you don't have to discuss anything you can follow pings, and report them. just don't retaliate.
