PSA: Don't try to pull rank on a bronze player when you are Silver

Blue Moon Wolf··34 votes·2,984 views

Title. I just played an entire match with a teammate trash talking me cause I was bronze. I look at his profile after the match and he was hardly silver. If you're not even gold, do not act like you are diamond compared to a bronze player. Silver is one level above bronze and even if you are diamond rank, it does not give you the right to look down on everyone else.

I had a diamond friend tell me "Don't let them phase you, it's just a stupid border. People are not good until they hit high gold and plat, that's when the shit gets real."

So we referred to the ranking system as this..

Bronze. Sandblasted Bronze (Silver) Polished Bronze (Gold) Plat Diamond Master

you get the idea.

Even though I am bronze I have beaten many Silver and Gold players and got beaten by everyone in each division alike. Like my friend said "It's just a stupid border"

Chamuel852 votes

HAHAHA Sandblasted Bronze and Polished Bronze. Love it

Mimy2 votes

He came up with it, not me. Made me laugh too.

Not saying were all the same skill, but the differences are so small.

Like a Gold ADC can perhaps Orb Walk, but bronze doesn't exactly know what orb walking is, and simply a quick explanation and practice can fix that easily within a few games. With the right training, patience and whatnot, a bronze could reach a bit of a higher skill and begin climbing faster then they would normally trying to figure it out on their own.

I'm Bronze my Diamond friend taught me what orb walking was. Still could perhaps use a little bit of work. My positioning and CS could use a bit of work. I got back into ADC role again recently after a long Support Spree. I'm working on it.

Chamuel852 votes

I was a support main forever. I'm not switching to JG and Top to help learn more aspects of the game. While it's great to know your role, knowing the game is more than your lane and role. :)

JG? Helped teach me objective control Top? TP plays and csing

Mimy2 votes

I suck at TP plays. I gave up top a long time ago, used to be my favorite role. Now it's my least favorite role.

I don't have any of those very strong toplaners and the toplaners I do play just get Shiet upon and thrown out the arena.

Blue Moon Wolf1 votes

I'm sort of like that with jungle. Back when I first started I tried to main top lane Warwick. Then he got shifted heavier into the jungle role. I tried to play him jungle, but I just don't get pathing very much. Brought him top and got flamed for taking him top. Now I don't play him much and don't really jungle unless it's a champ that has some sort of healing/ shield mechanic.

TequilaZombie2 votes

Pick him top, rush a Thornmail. For masteries go 18/0/12. AS, Armor and Mana regen Runes. Laugh at how easy the game becomes until you get out of gold.

Granted that I tried it a few months ago in my friend's account (I at bronze for now), so that might not be viable anymore, but was tremendously over powered.

I know this is a different game but you get the idea...

So it's basically the same thing that the guy was talking about.

Except instead of comparing silver to bronze, you compare plat to gold.

Mimy1 votes

Yea but according to every high elo I have talked to they say there's a huge difference between gold and plats.

I am not sure if that is actually true or not. Perhaps it could be, there might be something plats are better at. I have seen people be able to assume what time a jungle on the enemy team would gank by keeping track of jungle timers, and thinking about the paths they take while they were a jungler. I found this type of skill to be amazing. I have tried to practice it. Red and blue buffs respawn in intervals of 5 minutes and a jungle will go for his buffs when he can. and if you can keep track of that you may be able to know which side of the jungle the enemy jungle is on. As a Support I may be able to use my extra time for map awareness to warn people if the enemy jungle is close to them.

Jungle paths are completely random depending on the person jungling. but it's possible to guesstimate. Sometimes I wish I had {{summoner:2}} to practice in normals and test my theory and guesses.

Sorry I'm rambling! Anyways..

The reason why there is no difference between Bronze and silver is because of how easy it is to be carried into silver from placements. So you get a lot of new players in Silver, now whether they continue to climb or fall down in level is up to them.

#I know someone who placed Silver 3 from placements then dropped all the way to B5. He then has to claw his way back up to Silver.

I'm assuming the gap from Bronze/silver -> Gold is a little bit bigger but it isn't as large as the gap from Gold -> plat. This skill gap perhaps continues to become larger with each division Higher.

I have yet to be out of bronze so a lot of this is kind of a guess, but I don't do ranked enough to really climb/fall fast to really know.

Yo, got any tricks for me? Something that you do autonomously Like how my friend can use jungle timers to spot the enemy jungle...

As a gold you may have a few tricks to teach..

Troll for Trump1 votes

Frankly, I'm stuck in gold now.

Last season, I climbed out from B3 to G5 by spamming pre-rework Darius. I suck really hard with the postrework version.

Snowbally champs that can win lane, always ward, teamfighters are really good.

If you are ok with it, putting people on tilt does make them hyperaggressive. Saying "?" when they die, spam emoting etc.

Mimy1 votes

Snowbally champs that can win lane, always ward, team fighters are really good.

I main Bot lane, Trying to get into ADC role. I need to practice CS more before I try climbing ranked. I would like to have 70 CS by 10 minutes.

Apparently, good ADCs that I own to perhaps climb with are Ashe, Sivir, Twitch, and Miss Fortune.

As far as warding goes, I hope my support can do it, but I have my own trinket to use when I feel unsafe.

If you are ok with it, putting people on tilt does make them hyperaggressive. Saying "?" when they die, spam emoting etc.

That isn't the best thing to do when you try to climb. You want to keep your team happy and in order to do that you gotta kiss ass. Happier teams work better together, if everyone just fights each other you won't win against your true opponents.

Therefore as an ADC if me and my support mess up and give a kill or two it's part of my job to calm them down a bit. "Don't worry we're still in this. We will play smarter and farm up a little more." Usually this helps them feel more confident and level headed and sometimes we end up dominating lane afterwards.

The key to climbing is limiting how bad you are.

Don't try to pull rank anyway. Maybe you know more about the game and you can help people out, but simply saying "I'm gold, scrub shut up" makes no sense at all.

Blue Moon Wolf1 votes

Exactly. I was just making a remark on how ridiculous it is for someone who is silver to try and pull rank when they have hardly proved anything. It's like getting a C- on a test and making fun of the guy who got a D+.

BlkGolem2 votes

Very true. But I also think it is pretty much just as bad as someone getting an A deciding to make fun of the guy who got a C or a D. Still doesn't make sense to do.

Pet Peeves -New Players that think they found a new "never seen before" build/playstyle on X champ. "zomg no one ever thought of AP Aatrox! I've only played dis game for 6 months but I'm s0o0o0o innovative". Everything has been tried. -Bronze players who ask me "How do I get to Gold, or better... Diamond?!" I link them probuilds.net show them Adrian's latest Soraka build "Yeah that looks bad, I prefer going 6 warmogs, who is Adrian?" -Silver players "Why do you build 4 ludens on Soraka, that isn't good" Answer? Because I like being Diamond. Build meta hit Diamond and come face me in the bot lane.

Don't be that player. Just hit up probuilds and champion.gg accept that you should follow the meta

To be fair, this is a really dumb pet peeve. Just because no one has tried it doesn't mean it's not worth letting someone try innovation on their own. It's a learning curve. Not all innovative people have truly unique innovations... ESPECIALLY at first. Innovation is a process with a mastery to it.

Squashing it is silly as well as counter productive,.

For example, did you know Roman's invented concrete thousands of years before it was rediscovered (innovation, invention, and discovery are all in the same category imo). Doesn't make the rediscovery of it any less meaningful.

What a counter productive mindset. If no one tried new things, Ekko would have always been an assassin. Same with Fizz/Master Yi/Akali. AP Zac. AD Malz would never had seen some success. I've seen AP Nasus do well in a game. Eventually it comes down to knowing your champion. Knowing the kit. Knowing where your windows of power lie. How to play with them along with interacting them with your opponents windows of weakness.

META = generally good builds that should let you succeed with a champion the most. Does not mean you cannot succeed with other builds.

You uh... cannot read. My point made with the AP Aatrox example ended with the statement "Everything has been tried". As in I was not critiquing someone for trying AP Aatrox but mocking them for thinking no one else has tried AP Aatrox before. To make it clearer, since you clearly have difficulty reading; every champ has been built in every unique way/shape/form/purpose, and people who are brand new to the game who think they are the first to try AP Aatrox (again. just an example) are dumb.

Also. How is it counter productive to follow the meta? If the goal in question is to climb the ranked ladder, and you are not within the top 100 of the ladder, then you don't have the requisite skills to climb other than following the meta. Meta breaking is available to those at the top of the ladder out of necessity to out smart their opponents. Never in the history of League or any competitive game will a guy in Bronze5 invent the next game breaking strategy.

I didn't expect a good answer from a level10 commenting on the boards, and I was not dissapointed at this lack of thought answer you put out. Good luck hitting 30.

oh hey look, an idiot who thinks he knows that someone doesn't understand their post because they didn't blindly agree with them. AP Aatrox has been tried before. However that doesn't mean that any of my salient points are invalid. Just because you can't comprehend abstract concepts on language or games doesn't mean that I don't get what you're saying. I'm simply disagreeing with your points as they are really not valid especially at non platinum+ ELO. This is because your skill as a player is probably outweighing any inbalances the build itself creates.

However, oh look, hey you're diamond 5, so you think you know everything, but your ignorance shows all. You're just skilled enough to think you know everything. Kind of like a ignorant teenager saying "OMG, I've seen shit. There is nothing new to me. I must know everything." and you're too stupid to recognize your ignorance.

Oh look. A person with rage issues. It took one attempt to deconstruct your point and you flew off the handle. I'm no longer shocked you're posting from a level10 account as you've likely lost access on your main (shocker). My point was valid enough that any person who looked at it through a humorous lens could see its purpose. It was mocking the strong desire within players to claim they're the first to try something no one has tried before. That's it. That is all.

  • You misused salient or don't realize the point you made lacks salience, so uh... yeah
  • You sound like you just finished your first year of a Liberal Arts degree, because my point was far from abstract. So you obviously did have an issue understanding what I was getting at. That or you took part in a debate class and you take every conversation as an opportunity to turn it into a debate, which is sad. -Just because you disagree with my points does not invalidate them. They are still concrete, as no Bronze5 has ever risen to top of the ladder off an anti-meta pick and changed the game. Ever. Thus its concrete. So its valid. -Yeah I'm Diamond 5 and currently in the top 1.6% of the ladder. So 1) I'm not ignorant to anything and am in a unique position to critique and 2) I am skilled enough to know most things League related, especially support, game sense, meta game, and many other aspects. Yes I am weak in what would be required to achieve D2+ levels of skill. -Bustin out some serious shade. I'm assuming the reference to being an ignorant teen is your pathetic attempt to invalidate my points, because of... age? Ah your entire second paragraph is a diatribe of verbal diarrhea. Keep posting on your level10 account though, it really helps drive home the point of how new you truly are to the MOBA scene and League in general.

Cheers nerd ;) ~Utility Backline I'm tired of these level10 fresh accounts thinking they know League when you can hit level 12 in a couple hours of your first day. Roasted.

  4. For example, did you know Roman's invented concrete Not relevant.

So uh based on the evidence above I:

  • Did not ignore anything.
  • Proved his illiteracy
  • Never took any high ground as nothing was in question over who was right and wrong.
  • Did not mock him for being level 10, but I am pointing it out as this game (like many aspects of life) are credential based. Would you believe a Doctor with a Phd the same way you would believe a first year medical student?
  • You, like the poster in question, both resort quickly to insults and labels. He labelled me 12yrs old, and you're saying I should look inward and be ashamed at what I see. For what purpose? For posting a valid point that new players think they're the first ones to try x champ with x build? When the fact that this game has been made open since November of 2009? It was a small minor, semi funny, semi informative point. That I got attacked for by a rager. Have you read any of his other posts to me? You probably have not since its clear you just came to attack me. Well you look foolish.

Well I mean there does exist a spectrum Anti Meta ---------------- Meta and AP Trynd was popularized and while its not exactly Meta its not Anti Meta either. Exceptions exist through 1TP's as well amongst many variables. My advice is rooted in trying to help bronze players who handicap themselves by going anti meta

Whats funny is i just had a game last night that the top laner was ACTUALLY diamond V, while the rest of us were silvers or unranked pretty much. The enemy team had a bronze and gold-plat-diamond type rankings.... needless to say, the game didnt go well..... i was first time volibear support.... vs vayne and janna..... needless to say, nobody did well that game lol.

The diamond V was just RAGING at the jungler because (even though they are first time Poppy).... they kept pushing lane and beating on the Garen (who was the bronze on their team) and kept getting ganked. Their response was to blame the ally jungler for never ganking. We told them to stop pushing so hard and they will get ganked less. They proceeded to say "im not going to be playing it safe vs this (other word people use for bad) Garen"..... and continued to rage about the jungler not ganking while they proceeded to continue pushing lane.

Sometimes you just have to wonder what is going on sometimes lol

His rank could easily be better if he just played meta. Every season there are these holdout players. Look, do not get it twisted. If you are playing ranked to just have fun and play ranked, then play whatever you want. But if you play ranked, and play it anti-meta... its basic etiquette that you shouldn't come to the forums to bitch. You are handicapping yourself and your team by not playing to the meta, so you cannot have it both ways. You cannot play anti-meta and bitch about haters. You only get one of those hats. Its OPs (and everyones) job to choose what they want. If he played for ex: Janna and played her meta, and came here because teammates sucked/were mad about him picking Janna, I would be apt to 1) help him perfect his build 2) give him encouragement. I cannot condone Rumble support. If he came here and said "Yo I'm just here for fun in the sun with my Rumble support and idgaf what anyone thinks. Then I support him because hes just on ranked to waste time and jam out.

Honestly, this should apply to every rank, no matter what rank you are. The game is constantly changing and there is the distinct possibility a bronze player could teach a diamond player something new. This should apply even more too people who pull rank on a person who is only one level below them. This game isn't the military, rank doesn't give you the privilege to bash lower ranks.

Have a Nice Game2 votes

Don't pull rank period. It'll be more embarassing when you fail.

I just had a feeding kha and 3 bots (They all went mid/me and kha in side lanes) in my intermediate bot game, claiming he was a "plat in tr" or whatever it was. He kept going everywhere, which led to us losing towers cause I had to keep moving around to defend instead of pushing my lane :(

And before you ask, no he didn't have smite. only heal and ghost.

The thing that puzzled me was that he claimed his team sucked but he wanted to 1v1 me in ARAM since apparently 1v1ing someone "bad" will prove he is plat... He dc'd probably to do this thing while I had to go through all three lanes as Viktor to take the inhibs out so the bots and I could win lol

Wut.

You're not good until you hit high diamond. I don't give the slightest shit what anyone under that says.

And honestly, the only players who are GOOD good are the very high elo Koreans. I know people hate hearing that shit because everyone says it, but it's true.

Also, even the best players in the world still make mistakes. That's what makes them human. Humans fuck up all the time. So even if you're fuckin' number 1 in Korea, just shut the fuck up and play. You're married to the game at that point, anyway.

...In short, just tell them to shove it the next time anyone gives you shit. Bronze 5, number 1 in the world, you have no right to be a dick. (not YOU you, by the way...you know what I fucking mean)

Alright ladies & gents, you all need to realize that Bronze, Silver, Gold, players are in the same ball park, since we cannot control matchmaking.

-If matchmaking was perfect the Bronze player would be trolls & whining kids who fret about anything & especially the kids under the age of 17. ( yes I have a troll account)

We all have to admit wtf we are doing wrong & such, but kids under 17 won't have commen sense to think before they act.

Here are the 4 Types of players: -Passive. Too careful, which can make us more vulnerable to ganks & losing Hp too quickly. -Lenient. Smart plays which excels well, but with small errors in between which can have an whiplash effect. -Balanced. -Aggressive basically goes in alone with no HP/MP, or goes too far up in lanes.

So Play styles & Team Comp can easily go backwards & than your left with the lost which should've been a win. I will give you all several examples

Say for Bot Lane on 1 side we have Quinn Shen facing Blitzcrank Caitlyn

If Quinn is the aggressive player he/she most likely gets caught out by an lenient Blitzcrank whileCaitlyn plays passive most of the time, so if this happens Shen must turn to being Lenient as well & than go in front of his hooks, which thanBlitzcrank must revert to pasive to avoid getting shen, but if the Quinn keeps being too aggressiveCaitlyn is going to pile up the cheddar.

Another Example. Jinx & Sona vs Lux & Lucian, this match up is already one sided just by the range & poking they got. To make matters worse we were both playing passive, which is automatic lose of lane, while the Lucian was lenient & the Lux was aggressive.
