I was duoing with him the game he got banned and im pretty sure no one in our team or theirs was of asian ancestry . I cant know for sure maybe checking the full chat log will help you understand the situation better

It doesn't matter if any of the three other players were Asian, and it doesn't matter what anyone else said. There's no excuse for the OP to trail off into racism on the very first line of their chat log.

There is nothing that other players would have said that would condone the OP's behavior or exempt them from the rules. The only chat log we need to see is the OP's.

If you're suggesting a neutral tone of hate speech, I'd counter that there's no respectable way to use hate speech in a game of League.

If you're suggesting something else, I'm gonna need an example, preferably with a source.

you havent seen bans get revoked on these boards? i have. multiple times. it doesnt take hate speech to get banned. and for every guy who goes to the boards and writes tickets to get an unjust ban removed i bet there are 5 who just say wtf??? and never go through the work to challenge it.

example - player a "ur a f**" player b "dude dont call him a f**"

ive seen cases where player b gets banned for this.

I can attest to that. People who use hate speech gets banned, even if it's as you say. So what we can gather from this is that if you don't say those words, you don't get instabanned. Fortunately, it's possible to chat without hate speech so I can chat without risk.

I think he's referring to the people who derp and end up repeating the hate speech/instructions to self-harm, but aren't actually trying to call someone that. Like the ones who go into all chat and say "report X for calling everyone a %%%%%%" or things along those lines. I like to call them the facepalm bans.

I had one for kys, where it was a guy who spoke very poor English, and had been told to kys, only he didn't know what it meant. So he asked in chat "what means kys?" "can you show me?" " what kys mean?" Even reading his logs, I wouldn't have believed it at first, but after a couple days of talking with him here, I genuinely believed that it was a language barrier issue, and he did eventually get his ban removed, along with a stern lecture from Support to stop repeating things like that in chat.

But more recently, when that Cream bastard was running around with his ban baiting bullshit, there was a weekend that a lot of people were being held "hostage" in their games, and told that if they didn't say certain things, that the hostage-taker would run it down mid and lose the game for them. So, many of them caved, and said the things and got hit with a ban. Tantram personally went through a lot of those cases and reverted them, and permabanned the hostage-takers.

Granted, none of these are what I would call "respectable" uses for hate-speech. But I think this is what he's talking about.

I used the chat since beta 2009 nonstop and use it ALOT. Still on the same account and never been banned. So that means I've never been at risk. So that means YOU'RE WRONG.

When a player comes off of a 14 day suspension, they are on very thin ice. To continue to use racist remarks is extremely ill-advised. In five lines of chat the OP manages to make racially derogatory remarks against the Chinese and Koreans, as well as tell another player "fuck you."

Not to mention, ch--g ch--g is actually considered so racist that it is even censored here on the forums! Just because you consider it to be something closer to gibberish than an actual racial slur, doesn't make it so. It's been a rather harsh slur for at least a hundred years, if not longer. One of the others has already linked the wiki article which has a few decent sources on the origins of the slur, but it has something else in it that is even more relevant to this particular situation.

In this article you can read where Riot games fined and suspended SK Svenskeren for making a practice account that had it as part of the name.

Dennis "Svenskeren" Johnsen, jungler for SK Gaming, traveled with the team to compete in Group B in Taipei for the 2014 Season World Championships. "Ch--g ch--g" is a term frequently used to mock the Chinese language and its various dialects and is widely considered racist in nature. Many players on the server saw the name and began to complain about it on the Taiwanese LoL forum. Word spread to the media, and Apple Daily, a Taiwanese news outlet, published an article about Svenskeren and his chosen summoner name on their website......

Riot games have suspended Svensekeren for 3 World Championship games and have fined him for $2,500.

when the op wrote what he got banned for and someone said it was racist i had to think about it for a second before thinking 'yeah i guess it is'. i havent heard someone say 'ch-g ch-g x' since about 4th grade.

imo riot should post a list of their forbidden words. i can definitely believe he is not trying to use it in targetting anyone but just like a kind of joke.

Why would they do that? Normal people don't need a list of forbidden words to act like normal people. Such a list is only going to tell toxic players what words to avoid and how to flame more effectively.

Reading your comments in this thread shows that you have a lot of misconceptions. You seem to think that someone who doesn't use racial slurs can't be racist and you think making fun of an entire group of people is not that bad...

there are many different levels of racism. they should not be insta-punish on every level.

i heard an asian guy the other day say he liked camping with his white friends. because they can spot the mosquitos with their big eyes and kill them. so should that be an OH NO RACISM comment and give the guy a 14 day ban?

I'm going to stick my neck out again here, and so help me, if this one comes back to bite me in the ass, I'm never going out of my way to help someone out on this Board again ~~for the next fifteen minutes~~.

If you look at one specific thing that El Hamstero said, it kind of makes a lot of sense. He said "i havent heard someone say 'ch-g ch-g x' since about 4th grade." Think about how children act on playgrounds, and when they are running around with their friends. They hear something, it sounds funny to them because the words rhyme, and they repeat them. They don't have any real conception of what they mean. They may vaguely know that it has something to do with the Asian kid next door, but they don't understand the full ramifications of racism. They have absolutely no idea of the sorts of hate crimes that were perpetrated against Asian immigrants that accompanied that particular phrase. And I would like to say that when those children grow up, they always learn. But they don't.

Most of them still don't have any idea of the types of atrocities that were committed against Asians during the 1800-1900's (for the sake of discussion I'll limit this just to those that occurred in the United States, as that is where I am from and am most familiar with). Random acts of violence with beatings, murders, cutting off someone's queue, unfair labor and housing practices (sweatshops weren't just in Asia), having entire populations rounded up into government sanctioned internment camps simply because they were Japanese-Americans during WWII... these things happened, but most of the people who make that kind of joke have no idea about them. They might know that during the 1950's, white actors wore yellow face and pretended to be drunk anytime they needed to play an Asian in a movie, and maybe if that was all they knew, they might not think it was so bad to say some rhyming words. Ignorance has been a basis (one of many) for racism as long as it has existed, and this is no exception.

So, keeping in mind what I've just said... let's look back at what El Hamstero has said. Yes, with his/her first posting, they commented that it was barely racist and not even close to real racial slurs, but that was just an initial reaction to reading the logs. Then he/she thought about it. For all the ways that the United States tries to educate it's people against racism, it does tend to be skewed a bit more towards certain races, possibly depending upon where a person lives. In the south, where I'm from, it's definitely skewed more towards African Americans. In the northeast, it may be skewed more towards certain European groups (not necessarily a different race, per say, but there's heavy discrimination against Irish, Italians, Polish, etc depending on where you are.) In the southwest, it may be more skewed towards Hispanics. Having not grown up there, I cannot testify to what children are taught in those schools, but I can tell you that in my schools, racism against Asians was not given nearly as much coverage as other types.

Why do I bring that up? Because of the fact that El Hamstero made the point of sitting back and thinking about it. He/she admitted that they weren't too familiar with the phrase, and what it could mean, but after finding out, acknowledged that it was racist. I respect that. We all have things that we are ignorant about, and I'm not going to hold a person's ignorance against them when they make the point of noting their ignorance and then trying to fill in the knowledge gap.

And in a way, El Hamstero's experience here is probably the very reason why he/she can believe that the original poster was simply trying to make a joke and not be racially targeting. If he/she himself saw the words and didn't immediately think of them as being a racial slur, then it would be quite easy to assume that the person who used them had a similar thought process. Does the ignorance of the words' meaning make it okay to use them? Of course not. Not in the eyes of other players, and not in the eyes of Riot. But not everyone had the benefit of a parent, grandparent, sibling, neighbor, teacher, etc., when they were a child to scold them and tell them that those words were bad, why they were bad, and that they shouldn't use them. Most teens/young adults today did have the "benefit" of the internet making memes, jokes, songs and videos about these sorts of slurs, wherein they are used so flippantly that it starts to look like nothing but a nonsense phrase that someone made up. And being that the original poster is from EUNE, it's actually very possible that he didn't know the history of the phrase. I'll admit that I'm ignorant of how that region of the world treats Asians.

And while that doesn't excuse the actions of the original poster, or any other player who makes this same mistake, it does actually follow in line with El Hamstero's statement that there are different levels of racism. He/she is right. With regards to League, there are varying levels displayed. Sometimes, people are trying to be cruel with their words. They are trying to call someone that slur for the direct purpose of insulting the person and the entire race that the slur is taken from. But other times, people are just being insensitive, and dropping "casual racism" because to them, the words have no intrinsic negative value. How many times have we seen cases where friends call each other the n-word? They aren't doing it to insult the African American race. It doesn't make the word use acceptable, but it is a much different scenario than someone who gets angry at the Lucian on their team and tears into him. And then there's the middle-ground cases where you can't quite tell from the chat if the person is being friendly or flaming. Riot's solution is simple, and the most respectful. It doesn't matter what the motive is, it's all unacceptable behavior, and is all forbidden. Personally, I agree with this completely. It's the only way to ensure that all players are treated fairly and equally. And I've probably typed enough now, so I'm going to go haunt another thread for a while.

He just had a 14 day suspension less than a month ago. So, continued rule-breaking of any kind would have bumped him to a permaban. The fact that it happened to be hate speech is a bit irrelevant. If it had been a normal log of toxic chat, the result would have been the same. He'd have been permabanned.
