Undeserved Chat Restriction

So i logged in today to see I have a 23 fame chat restriction. I have had a restriction before, as I did flame a game but have since stopped. Either way yesterday I played a game where a kennen was trolling and dying on purpose. Apparently I got reported and now have a ban as a result. Below is a copy fo the chat logs.

It doesnt seem fair that I get a ban for this. Yea it was a little negative but we had a troll on our team... So when I get a troll I cant leave the game, I have to wait 20 min at the least to surrender and apparently you cant talk to them either. Pretty upsetting tbh.

What's the point to compete whose chat logs are worse? You were passive-aggrassive, asking for reports & unnecessary taunting the enemy team. Be glad you're punishment is only a pitiful chat restriction.

Coming from someone who can't keep their cool & just spams the chatbox instead of playing the game, YOU'RE the one who needs to grow up. Plus, it doesn't take one game to get a chat restriction when it takes a minimum of 3 games.

the community deemed that they don't like this type of speech. Thus you either play around it, or you get punished.

just because other players are trolling/being toxic/etc doesn't excuse your own actions. Riot has made it clear that punishable offences will not be tolerated for any reason for any party. You antagonized and insulted the kennen which is why you were chat restricted.

I mean you are provoking him when you acknowledge what he is doing. Which is basically the point of someone who wants to troll. You give them the spotlight when common sense just tell you to mute the person. Also while I wouldn't say this is a bannable offense it does deserve some type of punishment which I feel a chat restriction would do. Next time actually play the game instead of spending most of your time chatting with a troll you are only giving them more attention than they deserve!

I'm not saying it's your fault. But you could have been the bigger person and just not acknowledge him. Like I said the whole point of people to troll is to get a reaction. You gave him what he wanted and more. Be glad it's just a chat restriction and learn from this. When people troll just mute them and report them after the game. They would have zero evidence to report you because you said nothing. But you have all the evidence in the world since usually when people troll they will talk about it in chat.

Right. Well I didnt realize that was how the reports work. Either way what a terrible system. I mean at least they let you FF at 20 min but its still all that time wasted and they expect you to be happy about it? I should be able to complain in an appropriate way which I feel I did

Well, now you know. Take that knowledge with you when you regain chat privileges. Also, when you start to tilt, do finish your game, yes. Report if you need to, sure. But after that, stop playing, take a break, calm down and return after a few days. Helped for me.

Simple. Your punishment is about YOUR behavior. Not the trolls. And you were negative and ended up begging for a report. Punishment deserved.

Was this the only chat log they gave you? Typically Riot gives 3 logs from three different recent games that serve as examples for why you're punished.

FYI, the punishment system is tiered:

  • 10 game chat restriction
  • 25 game chat restriction
  • 2 week ban
  • Permaban

Anything that can get you a 10 game chat restriction will get you a Permaban if you keep doing it long enough. It takes roughly 3 months of regular play to drop down to where your next punishment would be lower.

right I am well aware of that. this just was undesreved of any ban. Just lazy coding on their part. I had a previous restriction. I got reported and they auto restricted without reading the chat.

It's a pretty good policy. You broke the rules by being negative and got punished for it. If that Ken were to break the rules, he'd be punished too.

You're expected to be the better person in these situations, not make the situation worse. "They started it!" or "But others were worse" are excuses, and you alone are expected to take responsibility for your actions.

As you mentioned in your post, you've already been warned once with a 10 Game Chat Restriction for flaming. Gaining punishments causes reports to be weighed more heavily against you, requiring fewer offenses to trigger the next punishment to be handed out.
