Riot is absolute trash. They ban people who become toxic because of the toxicity of other players, instead of dealing with the trolling trash that causes good players and people to become toxic. Riot needs to get their heads out of their asses and deal with the real problems.
If someone else is causing problems, you shouldn't add to it by getting toxic back; you're going to be a problem to the other players whether someone else was toxic/trolling first or not. Riot doesn't just ban people that retaliate, they ban people that are a consistent or severe problem to everyone else.
If you are frequently becoming toxic in response to someone else's behavior, you are responsible for that. Your reports don't become less effective if you don't insult the person, just play around and mute/ignore them and report them when the game ends.
I got a chat restriction for reacting to trolls. Then I stopped reacting. I haven't been punished since. Just like in middle school when I got bullied and started a fight and who got in trouble? This guy.<<<< Lessons carry over. Don't react unless you do it with suave sass. Make it fun. Lighten up, and above all else, if you're grinding ranked, get off the damn ranked q for a few days. You'll notice a huge change. I stopped ranked for about 2 weeks and picked up three straight wins today, and I was mellow af. My team was hamming a Teemo jungle we had about being trash, and Even with my name being Anti Teemo, I stood by him and we won the game. Then I reported Teemo for being a spawn of Satan.
Oh, let me ask you, and you got suspended/banned for flaming ? Muahaha You only think you was good. So you know - "pride comes before a fall".
Today I trolled a flamer (didn't feed, didn't flame, didn't go afk but also DIDN'T HELP). I got 10 games chat restriction for unsportsmanlike and dude got ban for intense flaming.

In case you don't believe me Here are two examples of gameplay trolls being banned. Yes it's just two examples, but it proves that they do get punished.
