It's fucking pathetic how typing too much or saying a single trigger (swear) word triggers the automated system once reported which can lead to being banned. Use your brain for more than 5 seconds and think about how disgusting this really is. You're not a hero for reporting someone who got mad at a video game, you're a fucking useless loser. You have done nothing. Most of the time you just get someone banned who was having a bad day and expressing his emotions like a normal human being (possibly even a child).

When did our society degrade to the point that expressing human emotion has become a bad thing? Everyone gets mad and upset, so if you report someone for typing something you disagree with, just remember all the times you offended someone or someone else disagreed with you. You are a hypocrite and this ironically toxic system has to go.

Just because you're upset doesn't give you the right to swear at others. It's a game, one without mandatory comms. You can swear to yourself irl, yell at your screen, no need to take the time out of your day to type it out and upset other players. There's a difference between going "what the actual fuck" and "you're a fucking degenerate fucktwat". Or using the n-word or calling someone a "fucking retard". As much as I do it myself irl, I try to refrain from saying it in chat because of two reasons:

It's not nice
It's not appropriate.

As you mentioned, children play this game, and no parent wants their child called a "fucking idiot" because they failed a flash or accidentally died while play a game. It goes both ways my dude. If this was a strictly 18+ game I'd get it, but it's not.

How many people actually care when someone says something "offensive"? What is offensive? You realize how subjective offense is, right? Do you not realize how arrogant it is for you to suggest that you know better than me about what is offensive and what is not?

Even if you don't like toxic people this system does not remove them for good, it does target people who never even swear and so it should go.

Considering you are arguing with me on the point, I don't think you understand what is offensive or even bad mannered. Politically correct, offensive, negative, it doesn't matter. Riot has to cater (to an extent) to people in order for others to not quit their game. And by removing offensive/negative people it makes the game more enjoyable to those that would rather quit when called certain names or told certain things. Hell, I got a chat restriction for simply saying "I'm not going to heal the adc" in a ranked game. But that was poor sportsmanship on my part and being a negative bitch during the game made everyone's gameplay worse.

And just because some people don't care when someone says something offensive doesn't mean that another person isn't offended. Hell, I'll report someone if I know it hurt my duo's feelings even if the comments weren't directed towards me. If you can't understand that someone will eventually be upset over your actions then maybe this isn't the type of game for you, and you should stick to single player games.

I literally curse almost every game, multiple times in many games. And I don’t get punished for it because I don’t use it to harass others.

You're allowed to express emotion in League. You're just not allowed to insult, abuse, harass, or belittle other players. If you can't express emotion without doing that, find another outlet for it.

Using the term abuse in this context is disgusting. Look at real abuse cases where peoples lives are ruined by real, physical threats. Not some person you don't even know typing a word to you over the internet whilst you're behind the safety of a computer monitor.

Why aren't people allowed to express negative emotion? It's a normal thing, why does league have to be a safe space? Negativity is subjective, I could say "flowers" repeatedly, trigger someone and get banned by this garbage automated system.

Text on a screen doesn't affect everybody in the same way. Just because you start crying and can't play when someone insults you doesn't mean everyone else is affected in that way.

But, what you fail to acknowledge is this: the system is based on what a vast majority of the community considers toxic. It’s not you and the "silent majority" of toxic players, it’s you and the vast minority of toxic players vs the silent majority of normal players that don’t want to deal with toxic players in their games.

If you are spamming anything you risk getting banned for spamming chat. However, if you aren’t spamming, the system does validate reports for legitimate verbal abuse before a punishment is issued.

You won’t get banned unless you are verbally abusing or harassing others. Plain as that.

There is a very real thing called emotional abuse. Physical abuse you can see, emotional abuse you cannot. You cannot say that just because something doesn't make you very upset doesn't make another feel bad. The person you just told to kill themselves? They have actually been battling crippling depression for years and you just triggered a very very real emotional attack. The person you just called a retard? They actually have a mental disability and try to escape it by playing league of legends. Just because you aren't there to physically beat the shit out of someone doesn't mean you aren't harming them.

If you're angry you can say something like "Dude, PLEASE, I'm trying hard to win this game and you dying over and over is frustrating the HELL out of me". That won't ever get you banned. You know what I mean? And it's not saying something like "dude why the fuck you keep dying? Do you even have a fucking brain?" One is insulting another player and one is expressing your emotions without belittling the player.

Edit: I use emotional abuse because what happens is the words trigger emotions, although I might be incorrect in using it here, it could be verbal abuse I suppose so don't quote me on technicalities.

There are certainly different types of abuse, yes. Hence why real, physical threats are dealt with via legal action and criminal prosecution, while League abuse merely gets you banned from a video game. They're not saying the two are equal -- merely that just because one is less harmful doesn't mean it's suddenly acceptable.

It more like "when did our society decide outbursts of anger in public were a bad thing," and the answer to that is pretty long ago. For some reason people want to pretend that normal social interactions don't exist on the internet, and fairly often they end up with chat restrictions or bans because of it.

I've disagreed with players in game, but I've kept my cool about it. I've been furious at players too, but I keep it out of the chat box because it won't help the situation. I handle it the same way as when I'm mad at the waitress or kitchen at a restaurant - I voice what's wrong but I don't let it get personal or heated.

You seem to think we are triggered by cursewords, I am only annoyed by them. If I have a player in my promo that is toxic it always ends up with people whining and 3 people not concentrating on the game. It is highly frustrating to have people in your game screaming and cursing because they are a detriment to my enjoyment.

I am playing a GAME, not a typing simulator for 3 teammates to use their random toxic attacks in. There is nothing more annoying then trolls and feeders, but seeing my jinx not move because she is typing(I muted her of course) and got caught is a good third place.

Also and let this be clear: I never report somebody for cursing. I report people that are clearly trying to use the chat to make people feel as bad as they do. These people are a waste of my time in the same way a inter or a troll is. You can use your fucks and your shits so much as you want, I don't give a fucking shit.

As for the poll in the bottom, you do realize your thread has no point either, right?

I agree with this. I don't think I've ever reported someone for swearing, unless you count a very inappropriate use of the n-word. However, insulting things I do report. Swearing doesn't exactly result in being toxic, just like words that aren't a swear can be hurtful to some players.
