Riot should rework Honor level penalties

Posting this on Player Behavior, since this post is specifically towards Player Behavior.

Recently, my account got chat restricted since I was being a jackass to someone on chat. From that punishment, my honor level dropped from 5 to 1, stating that I'll have to play more games in order to unlock my honor back, which I find quite unfair. Keeping in mind that this was my first chat restriction punishment, shouldn't it be more of a warning then just a straight drop in honor level? I understand that this is used to deter toxicity in the first place, but I feel it would only make players hate the game more, especially to players like me. The punishments shouldn't just be black and white, it should encourage players to reform while still loving the game as a whole.

Some suggestions on fixing this would be:

  1. When players are chat restricted or honor locked, good behavior, or honor received from others should be worth more in progressing. After all, since you're trying to reform/be positive even when your locked instead of being neutral, shouldn't that be worth something more then just a number of honors received?
  2. Warn players of toxic behaviors instead of the abrupt reform card, which strips honor level along with an in-game chat restriction or a soft ban.
  3. Make ranked matches restricted/banned for a set number of games. After all, why have people who were recently banned for bad behavior play ranked in the first place, where they can make it an even worse for players who are trying to win, trying to play the game seriously?

Please feel free to offer suggestions on how to fix it, or how honor levels are fine the way it is.

You showed you aren't an honorable player. Levels 2-5 are honorable. You don't deserve any of those levels if you aren't honorable.

This is already true for the entire season. If you are positive or you receive honors from rando, you will progress faster than neutral players.

  1. Warn players of toxic behaviors instead of the abrupt reform card, which strips honor level along with an in-game chat restriction or a soft ban.

Toxic people will use this warning to go up to the warning and abuse it to be as toxic as they want until they get the warning. You didn't get CR for just 1 or 2 or 3 games. You would have to have a long pattern of mild toxicity behavior to even hit CR.

So they can rage against Normal mode? No thanks. Ranked ban has been tried in the past. If you received a penalty, you had to play a certain amount of games in Draft (not this version of Draft, but the version before TeamBuilder with no assigned roles) mode and it created massive toxicity in that queue. Rito is not going down that road again.

I understand that this is used to deter toxicity in the first place, but I feel it would only make players hate the game more, especially to players like me.

But only a minority of players ever recieve a punishment in the first place, partly due to the severity of the punishments.

It works to deter toxicity. You can't simultaneously make a punishment easier to swallow, while keeping it's effectiveness of detterence.

Warn players of toxic behaviors instead of the abrupt reform card, which strips honor level along with an in-game chat restriction or a soft ban.

They tried doing that once, but it just led to too many people being confused about their account standing. It was confusing for both new and old players, who werent up to speed with the punishment system. (As the VAST majority of people arent)

  1. Make ranked matches restricted/banned for a set number of games. After all, why have people who were recently banned for bad behavior play ranked in the first place, where they can make it an even worse for players who are trying to win, trying to play the game seriously?

As someone who plays a lot of normal games: No thank you. Just keep them from being toxic anywere please.

I am having the same issue pretty much. Got chat restricted on Oct 12, and still stuck at honor level 1 check point 1. I have received over 30 honors from non premade teammates in 1 week and was able to progress 1 check point. I got 4 or 5 key fragments for a week which was a day or the other receiving the key fragments because of all the honors i received. Have I been honorable since the first chat restriction? Yes, cause I receivef a key fragment saying I am 126% more honorable than average players. Have I been honorable before the first chat retriction that I have ever received? Yes, i was sitting at 4-2 playing 3 months of ranked game this season. Regardless of all the attempts, i got the mildest warning 1 month before the season end date and I will not receive the rewards. That is extremely harsh and unfair, because players who constantly flame can show some attitude changes 2 months before the season end date, and they can still receive the season end rank rewards.
