Do you have any of your chat logs, or any examples of how you interact with other players? There are various types and styles of toxicity, and knowing what in particular trips you up and causes you to engage (and how you engage) can help us identify what might help you improve.

If you don't, I'll happily provide some general advice, but I'd rather be able to be specific if you have any data we can use.

That said, it's good to see you taking this step, and I hope we can help you!

Just don't flame. They're making a dumb play and get rekt? Great. Watch them die and keep playing. The top laner is 0-9? That sucks, but what is calling them bad and a feeder in chat going to do about it? Get off chat, don't worry about what other people are doing and just play the game.

Well based on this it seems that the moment a teammate starts playing poorly you start flaming them for it. Not only that but it also seems that you give up way too easily and comments like "i'm done" give the impression that you're gonna leave/go afk in the game.

My advice:

  • We all have bad days and games every now and then, so having someone flaming at us for every mistake that we do is only gonna make us perform worse, not better. Build someone up instead of breaking them down and there's a good chance that they'll be able to improve within that game.
  • Name-calling and poor sportsmanship (gg ez) is unneeded and unhelpful so just don't do it (pretty self-explanatory there honestly).
  • If someone else is acting up then just mute, report and move on. The more time you spend typing up insults and the like then the less time you spend actually playing the game itself.

Awesome. This we can work with. Let's analyze this.

HolaPOop: are u really diamond? HolaPOop: oh ya HolaPOop: so does that mean my skill lvl is plat HolaPOop: im lvl 21 HolaPOop: My other account is bronze HolaPOop: I hope my skill lvl is above gold HolaPOop: U need to help me shacos fed HolaPOop: his always pushing btw HolaPOop: its on the tower HolaPOop: I have like 1 hp HolaPOop: that time

So far this is acceptable.

HolaPOop: jizz

...this is weird, and unnecessary. Not convinced it's really reportable, but the sexual term out of the blue would make me watch you a little more closely.

HolaPOop: baddie HolaPOop: what are u doing HolaPOop: cant carry anymroe HolaPOop: fcking cockroach HolaPOop: gg ez HolaPOop: im done carrying

So here's where it gets bad. First off, this is directly insulting to other players and to your team. Secondly, it's putting yourself above the other players in a way that implies that every good thing about the game is your doing. Finally, "gg ez" is just rather rude, and undermines the entire premise of the term "good game."

From this example (albeit just the one game), it seems that you get worked up when you perceive players playing poorly. A few things to keep in mind then.

1: League likes to aim for about a 50% win/lose rate. So expect, at the beginning of your League playtime for the day, that you will NOT win every game. Make your goal to personally improve in every game, not to necessarily win every game. Doing that will still lead to you winning more than you lose if you keep improving, but you'll get less frustrated with losses.

2: 50% of any given player's games are below their average performance. Statistically, that means that 2-3 players on your team will be performing at the bottom half of their potential (skewed a bit because if most of the team is stomping or getting stomped a player is more likely to match his team's performance than not). Keep that in mind -- you yourself have bad games as well, and no one likes to be belittled for their performance.

3: You can be a force for good or for bad. Choose wisely. There's a difference between "Don't die, baddie" and "Hey jungle: you seem to be towering-diving a lot deeper than we can follow you on. Can you play a little less aggressively until we have the power to back you up?" The former is likely to spiral into insults and aggressive, and erode team unity. The latter is much more likely to lead to the jungler analyzing what he's doing and either giving you his perspective (and perhaps you have been the one not realizing the opportunity to follow him up) or understanding yours and capitulating with your requests.

#Here's the best advice I can give: Make your goal not to win or to lose, but to improve as a player and improve as the emotional backbone of your team.

That means if you want to give critique to another player, you need to make it friendly and supportive. If you want to insult someone, don't. If you want to talk about how well you're doing, phrase it as "We destroyed them there. Thanks for the great back-up, mid!" instead of taking all the credit. You'll find you have better games, have better experiences with other players, and often end up with friend requests or polite conversations during and after the game.

Heck, actually initiate good conversation. Start setting up situations. I'll often begin games with things like "Hey Lee Sin: the top match-up is probably going to be slightly in his favor, but I'll hit a power spike around level 3. I'll try to let him push then if you'd like to try a gank" since that lets Lee know that I'm thinking about my team, and that I want to work with them. Then (and this is key), if Lee DOESN'T gank I won't get frustrated with him. I may remind him top is gankable, but that's about it. I'll congratulate him on plays he does elsewhere, even if I honestly need his help. The goal is to make your team stronger as a unit, and that involves the ability to view the game from more than just your own perspective.

Yes, you may lose a bit more at the outset by changing your focus from winning to trying to be a better teammate in non-mechanical ways. But trust me: it's worth the sacrifice. Remember: at the end of the day, this is a game. It's designed that you win some and lose some, and everyone has bad days or messes up. Be the guy who makes even the worst game feel fun and friendly for everyone involved. Don't be the guy who makes even the best game frustrating and disheartening.

Good luck, man. And one last tip? If you find yourself frustrated, don't type ANYTHING for the rest of the game, and don't play another game. When trying to reform, don't push yourself over the edge.

If you find yourself having difficulty, or have any questions about techniques I find useful, drop me a line. Always happy to help make the League community a bit better.

The easist way I've found us to stop taking the game so seriously if you are Gold and lower, at the very least Normals. As for Ranked, you just learn to let shit go. People aren't robots so they are bound to make mistakes. Now if they consistently make the same mistake over and over again, constructive criticism can help. Help them understand what went wrong, not tell them what they did wrong. If they start flaming, just don't respond.

Not sure why people are down voting you just for asking a question.

Only advice I can offer you, is to not focus on things that are out of your control. Yes, your teammates can make misplays that can cost a game but there's not much you can do to stop it. Getting mad over things like that isn't going to make them play any better. You are not gonna win all of your games, so this something you have to come to terms with.

Even if you get a teammate who is intentionally trying to lose you the game, this is something you can't control and if you start flaming and getting upset, you are giving them exactly what they want. They are trying to get a reaction out of you and when you give them one, they win.

Hopes this helps, best of luck to ya.

Simple, just don't talk to people. And don't be toxic.
