Riot PLS: Let us disable Team Chat.

Just like we can disable All Chat in game settings. I'm tired of typing '/mute all' every game. :)

Folks ask for this occasionally. Every time they do, I worry that I'll be unable to effectively communicate strategy to people because they'll start the game without chat active. That seems unhealthy, or at least against the spirit of the chat system.

Those who want to disable chat are probably those who are toxic in chat and don't want the ban hammer. They probably find that chat has far more negatives than positives and think they'd play better without it. You'd probably be better off queing up with people who have their chat turned off, than have their chat on and have to mute them later when they get frustrated or in an argument

I suppose, but that's also a world where I have reasonable doubt that my teammates will read what I say if I'm attempting to convey strategic information.

I can shotcall now, and if somebody's arguing with me then I might guess that they have me on mute. But with an opt-out toggle for chat available to everybody, I'm suddenly faced with the uncertainty of whether my teammates are ever listening. More than I already have, at least.

I realize that /muteall already does this, so maybe the impact wouldn't be particularly noticeable. But as you said, this is mostly a feature for toxic players that can't self-regulate. It would seem to be poor priorities, to me at least, to implement a feature that will harm communication potential for players in good standing in order to potentially help people who AREN'T in control of their actions.

Theoretically, toxic players have an adverse effect on the quality of games for players in good-standing. Otherwise, there would be no reason to view the behavior of toxic players as anything but self-defeating. So, by allowing toxic players (who want to reform and increase their chances of winning) the option to turn off their chat, it would increase the quality of games for their cool-headed teammates. It shouldn't have negative externalities on players like yourself.

Also, I think this discussion is overestimating how useful chat is in strategy. I think smart pings accomplish communication pretty well. Watching high elo streams, you see most communication being done through pings. In my low elo games I have the same experience. "Swap lanes" and "Turn from Baron / bait the objective" are maybe the only things semi difficult to communicate over pings IMO.

It is very dangerous to the overall ecosystem of the game. Communication outside of pings is a thing, and not every person is the boogeyman looking to slice your ankles.

I hope one day they listen to your request. Nothing good comes from not letting people disable it. Some people just don't do well trying to communicate in this community.

I don't know man i had some fun with my team in chat before, there isn't always toxic sentences that comes out of this feature, and it can be useful, strategy wise.

If what you want is to not be able to type anything in it, look at this thread to find out how to disable your enter key so you won't be able to type anything, but still be able to see it ( useful for strategy sometimes, and you can still joke around with your teammates and so on ).

Overall i don't think this is a great idea.

What's the point of muting all-chat, including your team? To avoid toxicity.

But what is the cons of it? You can communicate, but what is the point of communicating if your trash team doesn't listen?

SPAM PING = ANSWER

until your team "Mute ping" and riot took away Ping Spamming

The chat system should be off by default if you want to chat get a group going and chat all you want chat may cause afk may cause feeding might even result in bans if you like players in the game spending money then remove or make chat an option you have to turn on

Why should anyone have to turn it on?

If a player can't control themselves it's their responsibility to mute. The OP said they are Tired of typing ...mute all.

Why should the rest of us be inconvenienced for them being lazy?

I'm all for mute if you need it, I'm not for making it my responsibility to have un-mute.
