Got Chat Restricted for "Arguing"

Hey, I got chat restricted for having a negative attitude. However, I think that that was an unfair assessment. Here's some context: I called jungle and then picked Kayn and locked in. The last guy to call says that he hates Kayn players and will troll me until I quit. He locks in Ivern jungle and proceeds to take all my camps by passive + smite. Veigar was tilted and began to yell at everyone and calling people names. After this game, I get a chat restriction because I apparently was "arguing" which "spreads negativity". I don't cuss and I am actively trying to chill out since it's just a normal game, yet apparently, I'm making the situation worse.

You're immediately on his case, which is just unnecessary even if he's causing issues.

This is more of the same, with a bit of you laughing at him in there and a completely unwarranted "smarter than you" thrown in for good measure.

This does deserve a chat restriction, yes. You could have left the situation well enough alone, not antagonized your teammates, not laughed at them, and merely muted and/or reported them. Instead you decided to engage in some low-key baiting and jab back at them all game, which isn't a good way to build a good game environment.

So me defending myself to the opponents team in order to justify why veigar's comments are wrong is toxic??? "lol" is a phrase thrown in literally everywhere how does that make it worse? I'm literally pointing out how veigar is being toxic, how does that put me in the wrong? Sure the smarter than you part wasn't warranted, but that's literally one line while I've been trying to calm him down all game...

A defense is "hey guys...I didn't actually do that." A defense is NOT this:

That's blaming/shaming, and only really serves to create more potential points to argue or fight about. You're pouring gas on the first, basically, when you could be putting it out.

Because it's strictly unnecessary (1 report = 9 reports as far as the system cares), serves only to create further arguments, and places blame and/or shame on a player, which isn't sportsmanlike behavior.

You're "blaming/shaming" me right now. Please stop arguing with me or else you will be reported and punished. How does "lol" "makes it seem like you're laughing at someone."? It's aimed at no one because it's literally a phrase you throw around in conversation. Like after someone congratulates you for making a play, people say "thanks lol". No ones laughing at anyone...

Why is pointing out toxicity unnecessary? Isn't that the entire point of this punishment system. "Hey, you said "I hope you kill yourself", so you're getting punished cuz your toxic."

These are not exactly defenses, no. These are further engagements that prompt discussion on a volatile topic. The other point here is that DEFENDING YOURSELF ISN'T NECESSARY, as the system will not punish you for something you didn't do, no matter how many reports you get.

The point of the punishment system is to identify toxicity, which it does through reports. All it needs is 1. If you're bringing the discussion of toxicity into the chat you're A: not accomplishing anything, B: creating a worse environment by talking about how awful another person is being, and C: only adding more fuel to the reasons that person may be angry/flaming/toxic.

No, you are expected to neutral or positive in your responses OR just don't respond. Mute (if you need to prevent yourself from seeing the chat), report (letting the player behavior systems & team take care of the problem), and move on (get over the fact that "defending your honor" on the internet is a largely fruitless battle).

Go ahead an let people falsely report you. If you have done nothing punishable, you will not get punished.

This is not an argument, it is a discussion. Your attitude if condescension and combativeness is what is making it appear as an argument. You cannot claim that any opinion different than yours is intently negative.

He doesn't need to be made aware by you. That's not your job. Your job is to report and let Riot handle it. You are not the police, judge, and jury here, Riot is. You can immediately mute them if you want to stop them from making a toxic environment, and that is 100% effective.

I will strongly recommend you to refrain from sarcastically attacking other players as you've done here. While Djinn usually has a high tolerance for that sort of thing, it will not help you case at all. Please try and have an open mind and understand why you were punished. I for one agree with his explanation - you were being overly combative and negative in game like you are now doing here.

As a Rioter once told me:

  • As the saying goes "Two wrongs don't make a right" I recommend just muting players you are having issues with and refrain from saying negative comments or arguing with them to avoid receiving reports/punishments in the future.

Besides, you were very toxic according to your chat. Looks like you should have listened to the Veigar and avoided typing back.

You kept fighting with your teammate asking for a report and kept insulting Veigar endlessly. This doesn't count for all the other times you have been toxic in other games. Riot don't ban people based on one game. The thing is League of Legends chat isn't meant for you to retaliate in anger, insults, negativity or ask for reports (harassing). The League of Legends chat is meant for two things and two things only. Friendly positive conversations and strategies. These are the way of the Summoner's Code. The code that you agreed to follow before you even downloaded this game in Section 2 and 5 in Term of Use.

I am not arguing with you. I was pointing out how you were toxic. Also, this isn't about Veigar or anyone else on your team. This is about you and you alone. You are responsible for your own action. You are not allowed to argue with your teammates and create more negativity in games. As for your threat in reporting me, well that is your own choice, I do not fear it and once again you're refusing to Follow the Summoner's code as we speak. You asked a question and I answered it. So do as you please.

I find this chat restriction is well deserve. Next time stick to the summoner's code.

No, you are arguing with me. An argument is "a reason or set of reasons given with the aim of persuading others that an action or idea is right or wrong." which is exactly what you are doing. Also pointing out my toxicity is apparently "strictly unneccessary". You're only further prolonging a negative environment so please stop.

Which I did, I gave you a piece of reason and advice on why/how/where you were wrong and toxic. You asked for analyzation and you received it. If you don't want to face the truth of someone telling you where you went wrong, then you shouldn't ask for it. You came to the board and ask people on here where you're wrong and you're accepting none of it from anyone. I showed you a reason and an answer. So no. I am not prolonging any negativity. Nothing about what I'm saying is negative. But since you cannot handle this conversation positively or reasonably, we're done discussing this. So don't worry, I won't be responding to your next reply. I would recommend you talking to a Riot member about your chat restriction if you're looking for a reason instead of listening to people on this Board.

However, I do urge you to read ToS aka Term of Use before you download a game. Goodluck on your next journey on the summoner's rift!

Whoa... you just said that "if I don't want to face the truth of someone telling you where you went wrong, then you shouldn't ask for it." That's extremely negative and is harassment. I urge you to please control your tone and voice while speaking as you're being very hypocritical. You showed me a reason and an answer that were both a violation of your definition of toxicity so I don't know why you are blaming me. The fact that you stated that I "cannot handle this conversation" is really rude and uncalled for, please check your temper.

Better to not use the term 'toxic.' I know it is easier to do, but the problem arises from everybody thinking differently as to what is toxic and what is not.

You could instead say, "you repeatedly harassed teammates and antagonized them, which is never necessary to do."
