Perhaps.... you were overextended and it was easier to let you die than to have both die.
It something that actually takes a long time to learn because it seems wrong and people like you tell you that you are wrong, but it is often best to let your teammate pay for his mistakes and die than to go in one by one to die and lose the game. If we are losing the teamfight I am leaving rather than going down with you.
There is another 2 lanes, dragon baron and enemy jungler that a jungler has to deal with they are not your servant. Yes it is possible for them to be bad and being in the wrong place on the map at the wrong time but not ganking your lane and even not ganking at all is not necessarily wrong. Jungling is actually really complicated and to reduce it to Ganking or not is disrespectful. I have had so many games with someone whining about getting camped and no ganks while i am stealing enemy camps and taking dragons/hearld while they are taking all the enemy jungle pressure.
stay strong. riot would like you to conform and become a little sheep like most everyone else on this game.
