Punishments, Honor, Clash - Flawed and Forgotten Goals

The punishment system, the honor system, and now even the 5's ladder replacement in clash are all tied together and it's becoming an insurmountable mountain and now breaking its own philosophies.

> Chat restrictions are in place as a minor penalty to let you know that your behavior in game could result in harsher penalties in the future if negative behavior persists.

This statement is the goal of chat restrictions and stand alone can succeed... but then it ties into reducing honor to 0 which in itself breaks the 'minor penalty' statement. Going from dishonorable on a chat restrict to honor 1 final checkpoint took 5 months+, with this it's ok to lose rewards and such which were meant to reward honorable players but now it's punishing by removing entire gamemode, in this case Clash (the replacement to 5's ladder/competitive.

> not having those levels does not prevent you from playing the game or give you a disadvantage in game

Solution(s)

  • Reduce 10 game chat restrict penalties on honor level from all the way to 0 to 1 with X check points.
  • Remove honor component on Clash participation (perhaps apply to clash rewards instead)
  • Implement a chat toggle aside from /mute all (when even Riot members in support state they remove chat from screen to avoid issues it needs to become a supported feature)
  • further reduce honor 0-2 climb requirements.

> Moving forward, I'd recommend you mute players, maybe even move the chat off the screen (this is what I do) and focus on your own gameplay.

As it stands the honor-chat restrict-clash mode system is breaking goals of chat restricts and honor. Chat restricts are meant as a warning (not 5 month death sentence), honor is meant to REWARD players not determine eligibility to play certain game modes, and clash is meant as a competitive 5's format and a replacement of the 5's ladder but is being treated as if it ISN'T a game mode but a honor reward.

I say this all partially frustrated from a chat restrict of my own, partially frustration there are collegiate players/5's teams that cannot participate in the Clash tournaments, and a good bit about wanting these systems to adhere to their original goals and purposes. This is NOT me stating if a chat restrict is or isn't justified.

Edit: Quotes come from unnamed Player Support but have been echoed by others and in releases of some systems like honor.

Funny that Riot has said for the past 4 years that Prisoner Island was an awful thing, and yet here they are making one all over again.

Chat restrictions already only reduce you to honor level 1 unless you're already at honor 1, in which case it will take you down to honor 0.

Remove honor component on Clash participation (perhaps apply to clash rewards instead)

Clash, being an extremely competitive mode, has no place for toxic players. Just as toxic players are restricted/suspended/banned from LCS play for some amount of time. They will possibly edit the requirements, however, I do not suspect they will remove all honor or behavioral requirements altogether.

Implement a chat toggle aside from /mute all (when even Riot members in support state they remove chat from screen to avoid issues it needs to become a supported feature)

While Riot would much rather you not chat than be toxic, they would extremely rather you chat positively than not chat at all. Riot is not going to make it easier to put a bandaid on one's attitude problem.

further reduce honor 0-2 climb requirements.

It isn't supposed to be easy. If you're at honor 0/1, you've shown you are not honorable - Riot is not going to just hand you back the rewards that come with being an honorable player.

10 game chat restriction already only reduces everything to h1.

Clash is still in beta. If the dev wants to limit the participation pool for whatever testing they want to run on a smaller population, then it is a good filter to exclude the trolls, flamers, inters, etc. from their test data. I don't know why people get so butt hurt over not being able to play Clash. A lot of games in beta do not allowed just anyone to participate.

Clash is not an officially released product...

Chermorg already covered this (a normal account getting their first restrict will drop down to 1, and only then to 0 if they get hit again while at 1), but something else to be aware of is that the only way it'll take you 5 months to get back up is if you're not playing much, or if you are still getting valid reports - they silently slow or reset your honor progress. Further details, including quotes from Rioters, here.

Meanwhile, there are posts on this board where people got out of dishonorable status in less than a month.
