In need of you experience, fellow Summoners.

Hello everyone, I'm Blackstab and I'm currently working on my last year project in a design school. I'm working on improving the user experience on online games using UI and storytelling, especially Human to Human interactions.

I would need all of you guys to tell me in the simplest way what you just CANNOT STAND in League. What does instantly makes you wanna smash your keyboard. Only one answer would help define core frustrations, but feel free to lash out if you're up to it.

Thanks in advance !

The shop always feels jumbled to me, and it's very unhelpful to new players. Like, unless you have every item's name and effect memorized, you're at an extreme disadvantage. Recommended build paths are often garbage, too.

Smite is required for jungling, and if your jungler forgets to run it, they and the entire team are likely screwed.

Runes cost too damn much IP. Fortunately, that's getting fixed(?).

Leveling up abilities is wonky to me. I'm always super nervous about accidentally leveling up the wrong one in the heat of a fight, and I sometimes do.

Riot is content to have imperfect systems to protect against trolls/griefers/afkers, such as the Remake system. While I understand how difficult those systems are to implement, I'd imagine that professional developers could improve upon them.

Players overreact or behave passive aggressive in chat when anything at all goes wrong.

Somebody gives first blood? You're probably going to see someone on your team type "gg" because they're ready to give up.

Basically when a player does badly, and other players say things to them that are unhelpful or insulting, which just further demoralizes them and makes them tilt harder.

So, for me, it's helplessness that's the biggest tilt. The feeling that, no matter what I do or how I play, I will not be able to turn this game into a victory. It happens most often when allies feed or lose (I don't flame, I just seethe). I've had plenty of games where I get fed as Renekton or Rek'Sai, even as Pantheon, and I can't close the game out because the rest of the enemy team is too powerful from kills they've accumulated. It could also happen due to the nature of champions; fighting a Fiora, for instance.

It's not unique to League. Other competitive games like HotS and Destiny give a similar vibe.

top pet peves for me.

  1. Players in blind pick insta locking a champion and THEN calling their role (or not calling it at all)

  2. Players who say "gg ez" at the end of a game, regardless of how easy or difficult it was, and also regardless of which team they are on.

  3. Players who refuse to surrender when the game is a clear loss (20 minutes in, 0-20 in favor of the enemy team, they have 2 drags and are about to get herald, we have no towers to their 3, one of our members has been afk since the 3 minute mark so we couldn't remake, but has a friend who insists they are coming back)

  4. Players who know DAMN GOOD AND WELL that their internet is complete and total shit, and yet for some reason feel compelled to play ranked matches.

  5. Trolls and feeders who know how to work riots disciplinary system well enough that they can troll the occasional game and not get punished for it.

What I can't stand in League eh? I can name a few examples:

  • People who overly taunt/insult in the chat, especially if it's on the enemy team. I mean, it's just a game. I can understand that you can have a bad day and vent it out by playing League. But at the very least, don't take it out on other people by talking trash, taunting and/or insulting them. A little BM is fine, but taking it literally and overdoing it is just plain wrong if you ask me.

  • Trolls. Self-explanatory. Nobody wants a troll in the game, especially if it's on my team.

  • Improving on J0o0's comment. I think that leveling can be a bit wonky. I want a mechanic where once a champion hits levels 6, 11 and 16, the champion's ultimate is automatically leveled up.

I hate it when I am teamed up with a YI or against him.

I hate it when I try to give a kill and that player ends up living.
