What if someone says GG WP when the score is like 50v10?

That seems very bm imo. THis whole argument about "oh gg ez makes the person who lost feel bad". Are you for real people? Riot this is how people commit suicide, it's when their lives revolve around things, and when 1 thing upsets them they flip out and you know the rest. Happens on anything from social media like Facebook,Twitter to games like WoW, or Runescape. People need to stop being so butt hurt and learn that it's just a game, competitive for sure, but nontheless still a bloody game and not to get riled up like a 10 year old. I can't believe people are stooping this low.

If they add no context then there is absolutely no reason to read into the comment. The moment you read into it is the moment you add your own context, which may or may not agree with the person who said it. Intent matters after all, so don't go applying an incorrect intent.

Even with a score like that it's possible the game was close. Even with a score like that you can force the winning team to jump through a lot of hoops in order to win. "Good game, well played" does not mean it was a close game, or that you had a chance of beating the winning team. It means you did your best, they did their best, and regardless of the outcome no hard feelings are meant.

If the game went poorly for you and you did not do your best then feel free to consider it not a good game, but if you tried your best there is simply no reason for you to add context to a contextless comment.

good game well played means that they (the opposing team) had some good plays of fights throughout the game. And if they all got deleted in those fights saying GG WP could also lead to people being butthurt, because they knew they didn't even have any plays in the game.

So they are talking to themselves? I don't really see what you're trying to say here, because there is no reason for them to inform the enemy team of anything you mentioned.

It means it was a good game and your opponents played well. Not really sure why that's a hard concept to grasp.

Since there is no reason to talk to the enemy team then how about Riot just has the option in the beginning of the game to have a choice of saying Good Luck Have Fun, or nothing at all. And at the end they say Good Game. Since clearly according to your ideology there is no need for all chat. You want to talk to random people go to chatroullete omegle. League of Legends is a 5v5 combat area/map. If you want to talk to people make friends on Facebook. I'm perfectly happy if Riot did this.

gg wp: Originally/Literally compliments your opponent's skills. Mostly used as a phrase to replace a handshake after a match.

Positive origin and mostly used in positive (at least neutral) context.

gg ez: Originally/Literally means your enemy was no challenge for you. Mostly used as a way to belittle/upset the enemy or boast of your skill.

Negative (at best neutral) origin and mostly used in negative context.

So... how are they the same thing?

And the one that claims people just try to get people banned for "gg ez" because they dislike losing. Yes, but you're the only person that claims that there's no reason to talk to the enemy team. You're the one that takes peoples' reaction to "gg ez" and extrapolates the most absurd scenarios where everything is bannable.

It isn't. You apparently just lack the empathy to understand what's considered acceptable behaviour and what is not. Everybody else, on the other hand, is enjoying the ability to use all-chat for, you know, literally everything that isn't insulting your opponent.

Actually no. I mostly play arams, because it has a less competitive atmosphere. I frequently have pretty fun conversations with my enemies.

You can say gg to say it was a good and close game. Or you can say gg to indicate that the game is over (like top lane Riven saying GG after dying twice in 5 mins).

I don't say either in chat really but just saying, it does have multiple meanings depending on the intent

Accurate. I'd also like to point out that it's not so much what you say, but how you say it that truly matters. Unfortunately tone isn't conveyed very well through text alone, especially when emphasis is impossible. GGWP for me is showing that you had an enjoyable game and acknowledge the effort the enemy team put in. GGEZ just doesn't have any kind of positive context.

Whats the burden of not saying gg wp? You stay things to convey a message that is the whole point of language. People on this game could be the saltiest mofos and and want to surrender from 30seconds on the clock and still say gg wp because its not meant as anything its just said because thats what you say when the game ends.

There is no burden. I don't have to say it. I like to, however, because I like showing my respect to the opposing team. But I'm also not forced not to say it... I don't get the question. I mean, I get that you're trying to deflect the question, but the way you attempted to deflect doesn't even make sense .

The question still stands: What's so bad about not being allowed to say "gg ez"? Why do you want to convey the message that you found the game easy? What makes you happy saying it?

Yes, you are comparing it to a phrase that has to be meant sarcastically to be as bad. Guess what: If somebody says "wp" and then follows with "that was sarcasm btw", then that would be bannable. But otherwise you can't just assume that person was being sarcastically, especially when so many people use the phrase as a replacement for a handshake and thus say it regardless of whether anybody played well or not.

You cannot easily determine whether people are being sarcastic or not. You can, on the other hand, easily determine whether people are willingly saying "gg ez", knowing that it will upset others. I say "willingly" because it's not even necessary that you are doing that intentionally. Any single bit of empathy would make it clear that people cannot really know that you are making a joke, Not when so many people use the phrase to brag/boast.

GGWP is more polite and can help other players be noticed for the good plays they did do. Regardless of score. This is sportsmanship since you are offering a compliment towards the enemy team saying they played well and that is was a good game (which sometimes it can be regardless if you're way ahead in kills).

GG EZ does nothing but rub it in the face of the other team. There is no compliment or praise for the other team for sticking it out or legitimately trying to win despite odds against them.

If you have trouble grasping this, just picture how you would feel if you were getting your diploma on the stage at your college, and the Dean refused to shake your hand because they think your degree is "easy" , despite how long and hard you worked to obtain it.

Actually, I'm stating this from experience since I come from a background of playing a lot of sports for many years, 9 years to be exact (volleyball, basketball, softball, and martial arts). I know what sportsmanship is, because I had it drilled into me during conditioning and training every day in order to become captain of my team and to be able to keep playing.

You congratulate the team regardless if you won or lost. Trash talking isn't acceptable and even referees will punish you for it. GG EZ is the same as trash talking, and to me it's similar to kicking the team while they're down. They know they lost, so why on earth would you rub it in more? To help? No it does nothing. So don't do it. It's not funny, it's not quirky. It's rude and offers nothing.

GGWP does offer something. It's like a handshake at the end of the match. Or a simple GG. They're meant to be neutral for a reason. Whereas GG EZ is meant to be malicious, not neutral.

Hope that makes sense.

What happened to the days when saying it was easy in a competition, wasn't a sign of non sportsmanship. When someone told me it was easy and that I lost it game me motivation to try harder. Everyone is so easily butthurt now a days. Can't even leave the house without upsetting someone. As bluntly put as I said, it has to be said.

I say GG EZ because the game was easy for me, if people get upset because that person found the game that they tried their absolute best then they are too attached to the game. If some one tells you the game was easy that tells you the some what the distance between you and that person and gives you something to work toward if you dont get but hurt over everything rather than thinking it was close when you weren't even in the race. Stifling truth for possible feeling that may or may not happen is stupid. What about his undeniable feeling that it was easy.

Great... thank you for telling me how to deal with somebody saying "gg ez". That's very much irrelevant though. I'm asking for reasons why people are saying it in the first place.

Whenever I ask this simple question, everybody that is advocating for "gg ez" simply deflects it towards the person interpreting the phrase. It's always about how people shouldn't be butthurt about the phrase, but I never actually find anybody that just straightup tells me why you feel the need to tell the other team that it was easy in the first place.

Is this really such a difficult question to answer?

I would love to hear any pro argument, that isn't essentially "well, the list of cons isn't thaaat long". But I guess that would force people to admit that reason to themselves.
