Issued a 14 day ban that i believe is false.

UPDATE: after talking with Frenchy of player support, he read the game logs in question and was in agreement that there was no malicious intent of me using the word "kys". Therefore was able to reduce the 14 day suspension to a 10 game chat restriction. He believed the conversation was causing negativity and arguing in the chat, I agree with him and am going to get through the games and get my honor level back to what it was. Thank you to everyone who up-voted the post and commented, it made me feel a lot better to know people actually care. Shout out to Frenchy for doing a great job and taking the time to investigate, Riot really is a great company that cares for its player-base.

I was in a game where someone told me they were banned last game for saying "kys" i explained to him that i was sure he had to of said more than just that to be banned for 14 days. because i said kys in game (not in a harmful context at all) he said he was going to report me after the game and i would be banned, thats what exactly happened. i already sent a ticket to riot, still waiting on a reply. here is my dialogue in question. should probably play it safe and just not use the acronym kys anymore.. its obviously caught pretty often:P

i realize this thats why im here because i believe im innocent, the guy in game literally said "you said kys in a not harmful context im gonna report you and you will get banned for it" and i got banned. im well aware riot will call me out if i actually was saying awful things i even told him that. Hey it's not a bad idea, sometimes Tantram or another Rioter drops by and fixes these. Best of luck though - if what you posted is accurate, you should be unbanned.

Thank you its good to hear that i'm not just wasting my time. i hope this gets fixed quickly as all i want to do is just play league, i know its sad that i'm bothered being banned/unable to play a video game.

if you're telling the truth... then you know better than most people that a support ticket with Riot would be the best way to go about things.

if you're lying, but you know that they will call you out, I have no idea why you would be here. It seems fishy.

Not understanding why it is that people will refuse to do obvious things to help themselves or take actions that are of no use to them is not suspicious of them and it's kind of irresponsible to set up the situation as if it were. In reality, it is simply irritating but normal behaviour.

I think i figured it out though.

It is suspicious because in his chat logs he says "Talk to Riot Support" then decides to post something on the boards when he knows that theres nothing we can do for him. His only helpful option is talking to riot support. We will see if Riot replies to this post, but I bet theres something OP isnt telling us.

If your account is virtually clean and this was your first suspension, it's possible that it gets reduced to a chat restriction. I doubt they'll remove it totally as discussing punishments/the system in game is both off topic and kind of annoying, plus there are some instance of toxicity in your logs towards the end when you start commenting on them trolling/being in denial/etc.

I'd advise you to be very polite in your support ticket(s) and understand that they may be unwilling to remove it, especially considering this log is quite off topic for the game itself. Best of luck to you though :)

So going off topic/being annoying is a bannable offence? the reason for me calling him a troll is because he went from saying, he only said kys, to saying he only said 2 lines of bad things, to saying riot only sent him 2 pages of bad things. then he said hes going to report me so i said he was trolling..

It could be considered spammy in nature, especially when an entire game was filled with it. Also, regardless of your opinion on someone else's play/actions, it's generally not appropriate (read: never appropriate) to discuss them in game - unless you're giving them constructive criticism regarding their plays.

You can have a quick discussion.

You generally should avoid using the entirety of the game chat to have an off topic discussion that has absolutely no relevance to helping you win the game.

Normally I'm on the same page with you on the boards.. but this is strange.

Is it actually Riots view that you cant have side-conversation in game?

I understand this conversation is inappropriate, but what about other conversations? I cant talk about the finale of American Horror Story while clearing jungle?

I believe it's an oversimplification.

If you want to have an off topic discussion at a non-game critical time, such as before minions spawn, when jg is dead, when you get an ace, when you're all backing after baron, times like that, you probably won't be getting in trouble (in fact I can almost guarantee you won't). If you're having an off topic discussion throughout the whole game, especially if it's with one or two other people, that's not what the chat's designed for and it's spam. It may be extremely low on the list of spam, but it's still a good thing to avoid.

I get what you're saying.

If the conversation is causing your team to fall behind, it can be some form of "assisting the enemy" and is punishable. But the only time I think this could be punishable is if you're literally not doing anything but typing and talking to friends in fountain or something.

I disagree that its considered spam though, if its a legitimate, innocent conversation, I honestly can't see it ever being punished as spam by Riot. (You're on the boards a lot, imagine the posts if people were banned for talking about anime or different champion builds or something, it would be a shitshow worse than we've ever seen. ) Plus spam is usually (I'm not sure on dictionary definition) the same message or group of messages over and over and over.

I'd just like red text to clarify their position on conversation in game. I can't for the life of me see them coming out and saying "If you're talking about anything but league of legends while in game, you're up for punishment."

Out of curiosity (and NO DISRESPECT INTENDED) Do you guys (player volunteers) get any clarification on rules or special emails saying what is good/bad? Is there a class or test you have to pass? (again no disrespect intended by any of this post. It seems negative because of the OP's subject, but if this were on a blank canvas post, it wouldn't have the negative connotation.)

We're nothing special really. We tend to be longer term boards users, and so our knowledge comes from what we've seen in red posts over the years and extrapolation from published data/etc. There's not really a class or a test, I was simply approached and asked if I wanted to help out :)

Talking too much or typing too much should not be punishable or discouraged in any way. If you want to focus solely on gameplay and winning, just play single player; it's a multiplayer game, why are you playing it and ignoring other people?

Dafuq? I get it that If something gets spammy it may disrupt clarity of strategic commuication, but

  1. There's mute option for this reason
  2. This means that we literally cannot discuss anything but gameplay in chat

Wow, try playing on EUNE servers and you will figure out that If there are at least two people who are both Poles/Czechs/Slovaks/Arabs/Greeks, half of your chat history is going to be them just casually discussing in their language, something that is usually just spam to you as you won't understand what they say.

Many times I am matched with polish premades (because Poles represent numerical majority I guess so it's most outstanding case) who are discussing various things (many times not related to game), spamming half of chat and what you are telling me is that I can report them and give them chat restriction, because they actually bothered to talk to each other? And no, Skype isn't always an option, not everyone has mic.

And now that I think of it I cannot talk to anyone in Slovak, because it's "spammy". And god save me If I will be joking around because that's "off-topic". Could you then just remove chat function all-together and enhance pings so that we don't bother anybody else by acting like humans and talking and discussing because it's "off-topic and spammy" and obviously (dumb) reason for chat restriction, so that we only communicate relevant gameplay info?

The first guy, although a troll, wanted to discuss something, this guy responded, it's discussion. What makes this off-topic and annoying but some premade literally discussing a recipe in polish with his friend isn't. And If both are off-topic and annoying why am I supposed to punish someone for not having a mic and no other way of chatting in-game with their friend If they want to relax out by discussing with their friend?

Genial idea again! I'm going to troll some games now and If anyone will question my behaviour and say "Okay, you're just trolling now... Why?" I will report them for flaming me! And they will get banned because "there are some instances of toxicity". Then I'll just crawl into my cave and will both laugh and cry at the same time.

Could you please make a list of things I can discuss in-game for me? I want it not to get banned for the vile criminal act of using chat and plus looking at what you consider "toxic" and "off-topic and annoying", it's not going to be long list at all.

A quick discussion of something is usually not a problem. Spending the entire game on off topic discussion is when it may become a problem.

The mute button is not in game to allow you to misuse chat for something other than its design. In game chat is designed to be used for teams to communicate strategy with each other - not have personal off topic conversations with each other.

SERIOUS QUESTION: So next time I will be matched with premades of another language that will spam half my chat with talks in the language I don't understand, ultimately being nothing but spam to me regardless of what they talk about, what should I advise them? Use Skype and rely on them having mic? Use third-party software and risk getting banned for it due to Riot's not-so-clear policy on it? Speak english because knowledge of this language is somehow mandatory on server that covers as far as I know literally not a single country with english as its official language while the game even offers translating the game texts and voic-acting into other languages?

RANT: Sometimes I like to go all role-play and get into my character, use jokes, memes, references (recently played game with Azir who frequently ruined my ult [Aurelion] with his ult [unintentionally] which led to my equally frequent complaints about sand and sand-people Anakin-style), which I never found a problem as people could mute me If they find it annoying and I found myself rising spirit of my team and sometimes even enemy team with this, making the game less serious and more enjoyable, because it's played by humans, not robots. Now I'm realizing despite it being mutable, it's reportable. BTW I got matched with two premades of that game next game and they went instantly in champ select "Heyyy, that's ma dragon boy". It really felt better than someone saying something tryhardly instead.

BTW I once got really salty in ARAM game and the enemy just went "What is love" and made me finish the song with them. The power of how much it helped turn salt into laugh and make me less irritated by the game and the fact If this was done constantly through the game to help keep it less frustrating, it'd be bannable, is the reason why I am annoyed by this approach. You underestimate how well-made off-topic role-play banter or memes can make salt less painful. And there is a lot of salt-generating things in this game.

Talking in another language is not prohibited so long as it's on topic. If you cannot determine if it's on topic or not because you don't speak the language, then don't worry about it. You're free to mute them if you so choose.

If you know someone's being off topic in game and they're constantly spamming chat with off topic things, you can report them for it and if the behavior is constant they may very well be punished for it. Especially if the discussion is about punishments/punishable behavior or another topic with a negative connotation.

In game? Honest answer: no, you can’t. The issue is the fact that the system isn’t exact enough to be able to analyze context. It’s going to register only the words themselves. If you do encounter those kinds of things in game, mute and report. Best option to both help the community and also protect yourself from unexpected reprisals.

Sorry, but the system doesn't care about context at all. Whatever reason for which you say "kys", "nigg-", "f-ggot" you can go from 0 to 14 days ban out of nowhere. Just avoid saying anything at all.

There is this thing system calls "trigger words", and no matter the context, if you say them and get reported, you will most likely banned. You can send a ticket to Riot support explaining the situation, but next time just mute and don't say anything at all.

send a ticket to riot, they will undo the ban if this is your log, someone reported you and when it detected you saying kys it automaticly issued a 14 day ban, riot will overturn it if you contact them VIA ticket.

that being said do not say stuff that will trip the bot into banning you.

i submitted a ticket this morning and have been waiting all day because its all i really want to do considering i don't really get many days off. So they're are taking the same action on kys as they do on racial and homophobic slurs? i didn't think this was the case... as i was explaining to the guy that got the same treatment to me in game that you cant just say kys and get banned, then i got banned right after the game for saying kys, not to anyone in game though.
