Flex is a nightmare.

Riot,

Here is yet another post about the toxicity and behavior of players in League. I just got out of the second of my flex games this morning, and in BOTH games I had incredibly toxic players on my team (one guy said he hoped our mothers got shot because we are Americans and like guns). Part of this issue is because for some reason the matchmaking algorithm or whatever y'all use to place people in Flex is kinda screwy. How does it make sense to place two Plat players with 3 Silver and below, against a team with all mid/high Gold and Plats? I mean, I guess the mmr's kinda average out...? Maybe I am just an outlier in this, but it seems that every time I play in Flex I get teamed up with players that are not close in mmr to me or my opponents. Now, I am not an elitist. I spent 5 seasons at silver and it was only after I took a genuine interest in macro play that I began to climb out to Plat (and hopefully beyond!). I do have an issue with players becoming defensive and raging at me for trying to help explain the game to them (e.g. "Shove the wave in all the way before backing/roaming," "Trade around their cooldowns," "Don't fight, I'm splitting," and so on). Eventually, they become so upset that they either: (A) - Cuss you out and AFK, or (B) - Proceed to rage in chat while inting. Just this past game, I had an adc who was Silver 5 paired up with a Plat 2 support. The adc was not very good at knowing when/if to trade and when to go all in, and this understandably frustrated the support, who then said after 4 deaths in a row, "Lol fck u Ez, pce," and dced.

People don't care about Flex. The matchmaking is screwy, which places teammates together that should not be as well as against players that are of a much higher skill level than they are (it works both ways, I have had games where my team was against 4 bronze and a Gold and somehow that equaled 4 golds and a bronze), which is frustrating and demoralizing for all parties involved. I'm not sure if Flex isn't a priority or something, but change needs to occur, otherwise you should just remove the queue entirely and leave ranked for solo/duo. At least we expect raging there and usually get people of a similar MMR to play with us.

I think your poll question goes without saying. 9 times out of 10 if you look up someone's OPGG, they'll have a solo queue rank but no rank in flex, or if they do, their solo queue rank will be much higher than their flex rank.

Getting together a 5 man band that can reliably play together is hard. It's a lot more fun that solo queue, but maintaining that team is tricky.

It's not a nightmare. It's actually pretty chill. I like Flex :)

"It's just flex."
