If it was in your game, your report is enough. Racial and homophobic slurs, among other extremely toxic behavior, are grounds for an immediate ban (14 day or permanent). Just try to not let it get to you, and mute/report them.
If homophobic slurs are an immediate ban shouldn't you see a ban message?
Would insults regarding the special needs also be considered grounds for immediate bans?
I've seen a decent amount of people throwing those around liberally and from what I've seen, they still are playing.
As far as I know, that isn't typically considered as severe as threats and hate speech. It is still punishable, just not by skipping punishment tiers through the Instant Feedback System.
Personally for me, I take great offense in it and immediately report once I see those kinds of insults. I have close family members who are considered special needs, and I have worked with special needs kids ranging from autism, to physical disabilities.
Too often, I see many insults being hurled around especially for people who are mentally handicapped in this community. This kind of insult hits close to home for me, so I honestly think that these kinds of insult should be paired along with hate speech. Other than people explaining their experiences with people who are special needs, I have never once seen someone use phrases like "retarded" in a positive connotation in this forum.
Well, nobody thinks it's ever positive, just most don't feel as strongly about it as you do. It's often used as simply a stronger form of "stupid" not in reference to a mental handicap, such as "Darius's damage is stupid/retarded". Yes it's also used as an insult to other player's intelligence, but probably because its common use in less directly offensive means it's not viewed as offensive overall.
I can tell you I'm sorry you have had to deal with this, but the truth is, it's probably not going to change; all you can really do is mute and report them and try to move past it. They don't know how you view it unless you tell them, and telling them will either A) give them a target to aim at or B) they'll be considerate and not do it again in that match. Most likely it's going to be (A), so just mute them.
To be honest, I'm currently putting this advice into practice, and have been doing that for about 2 years now. I've muted pretty many, if not most, of my games because of the amount of toxicity I see in the game. I usually don't notice the toxicity ingame nowadays, but in postgame chat, it's toxic pretty much 9 games out of 10 from my perspective.
I'd like Riot to address something like this though. Too often do I see threads where people complain about the toxicity of the community, and too often, I see the people blaming Riot for not doing enough. I remember back around 2012 or 2013 Riot released a statistic of how toxic many of their games are, and I'd like to see an update on those statistics.
I'd like to add a bit of an example:
My friend didn't perform well in this game I had with him. I'm on my smurf because he's low leveled, and I know for sure that even at level 30, people are toxic. This account is also my "test" account, where I play champs I rarely play to practice, as well as to play with friends who are lower leveled, pretty much for just casual playing.
I've highlighted the main thing. This is honestly an extremely common thing I see, and I very often report this kind of toxicity. I personally see it as hate speech, and in the area of work where I'm currently in, insulting the special needs community is hate speech, an equivalent of someone using racial slurs against another person.
Would more severe comments like this be considered worthy of a permanent ban? I also marked out everyone else's name to protect them from community backlash, just in case. Link
just because you dont get the message that "a player you reported recently has been punished" doesnt mean that they werent punished. only the last person to report that player gets that message. if what the player said really was offensive or inappropriate, chances are that they were punished.
In my opinion theres nothing wrong with that. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion if its unbearable for you use your brain and locate the mute button!!!! Also, vote Trump!!!! On a side note riot doesnt care about you messaging them they dont read shit. They will be quick to contact you though if payment is pending.
TRUMP 2017!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOO! i like your post
