I feel as though this chat restriction is unwarranted

Hey,

First of all I would like to apologize if this discussion is inaccurately placed. I've never posted in these forums before, so I'm not sure if this is the right place for this topic.

Assuming that it is, however, I would like to contest a recent chat restriction put against my account. I was restricted for a game in which my chat log was this:

Game 1 In-Game OttoVonSimCard: is this low priority? OttoVonSimCard: i dont think so but literally 3 games in a row we've ff'd before 5 minutes OttoVonSimCard: ? I truly do not believe this is worthy of any restriction. I think I have identified the offending phrase in the fourth message, where I call our jungle and support terrible. I understand why the system would consider this worthy of some punishment- for context, however, the two of them had been engaged in a massive argument for the first 10 minutes of the game during which they both threatened to go AFK for the express purpose of losing us the game. After going through 3 remakes in a row, that prospect was incredibly frustrating to me.

Now, I understand why this might warrant a warning or maybe even a 2-game restriction. However, I was punished with a chat restriction for 10 games for this. I don't think that's fair, especially considering that in this match the player who reported me (I assume our support) said he would report me for racism so that the system would ban me if I had ever said a slur in a preceding game. That's not something I have ever done on League or any other game, and openly and intentionally abusing a serious report option should give some insight into the sort of person I had to deal with here. As far as I can tell, calling a player threatening to DC over a petty argument "terrible" is the only offending statement I made. Is calling another player terrible inherently wrong? I understand the reasoning for why some would say yes, and why Riot would believe that. Personally I don't think it is, but I don't have to moderate the chats of literally a million toxic players every day. But for someone who (as far as my memory serves, I might have gotten one as an angry highschooler) has never had a chat restriction before, 10 games restricted for this seems excessive.

Ultimately this isn't a very important thing, but I would like at least a shorter restriction, as it may be important in one of my next 10 games to have greater access to the chat. If not, that's fine, but considering my general civility, the fact I used no slurs here or ever, and the fact that I did not swear here and rarely if ever swear in chat, I don't think this restriction is worth it. There are no threats here, no PG-13 (or even PG) or above language, and in no way is this even on par with the sort of language I deal with every day playing LoL that either I tolerate, or that I report which (as far as I can tell) goes unpunished.

Its not bad, it could contribute towards a punishment though. Like, technically, you broke the rules pretty early with "terrible jg terrible sup". So the punishment was not placed in error, as you did break the rules. They are just THAT strict. Also, just fyi, swearing isnt against the rules. 90% of my chat is just exclamations after i get killed or fuck up, like "fuck" or "god dammit". Thats not against the rules. Insulting players is.

While you didn't say anything super heinous (ex. cursing them out) you are still going back and forth with your teammates for a large majority of this game. Calling them terrible and an "angry little 15 year old" isn't staying completely civil, either.

This pretty much is your warning. The punishment ladder has 4 stages, it follows this guide:

10 game chat restriction > 25 game chat restriction > 14 day gameplay suspension > Permanent suspension

While it is still a punishment, it can be breezed through in a day or two and the Honor level lock/reduction is probably the worst part about it. Ultimately I wouldn't stress it too much, you should be back to normal standing very quickly.

Your behavior wasn't horrendous, but it wasn't perfect either. The argument with your teammates did take up a large majority of this game's duration and you did call them terrible in addition to being an "angry little 15 year old."

Someone else's wrongdoing also doesn't justify your own, just because someone might have said something worse doesn't make this behavior okay. There's no way to verify if someone has been punished or not, the IFS report (report message) is inconsistent and you are never guaranteed to get it.

If you want to try to contest this punishment or want a better explanation, you can file a support ticket right here. Fair warning though, they generally only overturn punishments that were placed in error.
