Toxicity on the Rise since Season 1, and the Solution.
Hey Everyone,
I've been an avid LoL player since the beginning, and I can't help but notice over the last couple years a rise in toxic and unsportsmanlike behavior. Sure, due to the very nature of the sport, this behavior has always been around. But, with over 10000 games played, I can't deny the fact it has become much more common than 'the good old days', where I could play an entire day with decent folks and enjoy the game. Now I'm lucky if every other game isn't tarnished by someone being absolutely ridiculous and ruining the game for the other 9 players involved.
Rather than a rant of nostalgia, I'm a solutions oriented person, and I would like to propose one. It's time RIOT hired GM's. The automated system just simply isn't working well enough on its own. Currently, so many players who should be warned and punished are not, and so many who don't deserve punishment are. (Insert false reports here for asking your team to group up and/or teamplay, how dare you.)
Every sport has its rules, and its referees. A sport must, in order to survive and grow. Over the years I have watched LoL go from the most enjoyable and promising eSport in the world, to a game so full of toxic behavior that I fear it will kill the game and the sport. Is it so much to ask, RIOT, that you employ some referees? I'm not suggesting a GM in every game, but even just a few sprinkled randomly and here and there could make a HUGE difference. Give the GM's immediate authorities to act upon what they see in their games, with immediate and fitting punishments. Something has to be done about this, or it's going to turn the game we love, into one we don't.
In Season 1, LoL was a great sport. As we begin Season 6, it's become a haven for trolls and angry people who aren't even trying to play the game, and simply logging onto the internet to harass and grief other people. Each year, it has gotten worse. If something isn't done, these bad apples are going to ruin the barrel.
