Why are there so many flamers in League? It makes it so tiring and stressful to play this game.

Yesterday I tried ranked for the second time. Last time was S3 where I placed in Gold. This season I lost 8 of my 10 placements and was placed in Silver 2. I admit, I’m not stellar, but I usually held my lane for a bit longer than other lanes.

Now the issue isn’t that I lost, losses come to everyone and those don’t bother me because I know I’m not always going to lose, but what stresses me is this community. Without fail, in 9 of my 10 games, including one where we had a team of five versus a team of four that we won easily, my partner and I always had one or two people on our team flaming someone. Since my partner was support she was always flamed first, with people insulting her item build and calling her ‘mentally broken’ or other toxic things, or they would blame me, when I would go to push the three waves of minions of five the turret or something,

Now I could mute them, and I did eventually, but it really depresses me and makes me never want to touch ranked again. Without fail there was always someone raging at someone else, even if they or I started off the game with compliments to their early kills or ganks. Having to mute these people and lose that extra bit of communication because they are busy losing their minds over a video game really stinks. This wasn’t fun for me, probably for my team, and the rangers. Maybe only the enemies because they could then stomp us.

Also, who at Riot thought emotes would be a good idea? All they are used for is BM and I can’t figure out why muting someone doesn’t stop those. This game stresses me out because of all the hundreds of people I have had to report it also feels like nothing ever happens. Like my report isn’t helping to make this game a little more enjoyable for others.

My long rant is over. I’m just sad that so many people in this game want to do their best to make it a stressful slog for everyone’s else on their team, acting like they didn’t also contribute to the loss. This is probably my last time playing ranked, unless it’s an Ahri or Teemo skin one year. :(

Competitive gaming, tied with potentially long match times and a need for teamwork, tends to make people salty.

just /mute all at the beginning of every game

I get where you're coming from. And frankly, if it really irks anyone I would suggest to find a way to make the game genuinely enjoyable than to siphon into the toxicity.

I wanted to do a rank climb in the last month and a half with the optimism and laughter I give to myself for almost anything (bad ideas, my own bad plays, etc). I didn't do anything; not only because of low interest but because of some random flamer and the potential flamers that would come after it if I kept going...and that was just over a Mundo ban in Treeline (I personally hate Mundo's tankiness in 3v3). The player said don't play ranked if I'm gonna "troll" so I did (we won that game btw quite decisively).

Long story short: I don't need a label to enjoy the game. Sure I miss out on a border which is all i ever care about but at least I don't have to stress to death for the time being.

Violence man, If you didn't saw any violence, Or had enough of it, You will see no flames. Try to avoid them with a simple ' :3 ' or any other smile, And I promise! They will freak out and will chat it ! "Report this player" and blah blah blah... And? this is not riot's problem, They can't control millions of kids in their houses, MILLIONS, ok? It is almost like the police, We don't love them, Cause we still see the crimes outside... No matter how much they will pay for security, It still DOESN'T CHANGE THE FACT! That, At the end of the day... As my Idol said it in one of the best movies so far.

“Smile, because it confuses people. Smile, because it's easier than explaining what is killing you inside.” ― The Joker - Heath Ledger

that kind of flame is trying to improve you it seems. some people have a horrible way trying to help lol. take a look back at your games in replay to see if they were right before you lose your mind.

riot doesnt punish toxic players properly since their reporting system is flawed. thats probably why they are still persistent in every single game

That's honestly what makes league difficult for me as well. It doesn't even matter what elo you're in, the toxicity levels are relatively the same. One thing that helped me was, as everyone else is saying, just /mute all and focus on yourself. I, personally, just need to put myself in a mindset just to play ranked. It sucks, I wish I didn't have to mentally prepare myself to expect people to be toxic and to be mentally prepared to ignore it, because honestly sometimes it hard to ignore it because it can really hurt someone's feelings ya know? Like I wish I could just play my game knowing that I wouldn't be flamed, rather than just being ready to accept the flame basically. Why can't we all just get along~

The other downside is if I'm not in the mood to deal with this type of stuff, I basically can't play ranked. It just feels scary to try to go into a game knowing someone will probably harass you. It really makes climbing and playing consistently very difficult (Had a goal to get plat this season but stopped at gold 3 because I was just mentally exhausted from dealing with flame). But yeah, my advice is just to try the whole mental-preparation thing if you can. Maybe it could help. It is a shame to see more and more people get discouraged from playing ranked because of this community issue. [sg-soraka]

Honestly, they just hate losing, and people never try to call them out on it cause they are just fucking fed up as you and I are. People suck at peopling, and their social skills are just as bad. [sg-shisa]
