Why is being reported for toxic behaviour even a thing?

Every game I go into someone is being toxic. Of course, I myself have been aswell. But the thing is. I try to be nice. Then someone starts to insult me so I have the urge to respond because I was taught to stand up for myself. Apparently thats bad and is reportable. Does riot read the chats of all parties in a game?

I don't think your dad had 12 year old strangers on the internet in mind when he said you should defend yourself. You aren't solving anything when you get toxic back at them, you are just causing more problems regardless of how it makes you feel better.

You might have also been raised to be better than bullies; Use those lessons instead. Rather than stoop to their level, just mute and report them.

And no, Riot doesn't read both sides of the chat when reviewing your case. Each player can only control the behavior of one person; themselves. That is the only chat they will be held responsible for as well.

You can defend yourself without being toxic at all, I've been doing it since pre-season 1 and haven't seen so much as a warning.

As Nami said, no.

But if you report them they will get their own separate review.
