I want everyone's opinion on this...

Today I logged into my account to find that I received a 10 game chat restriction. Unlike most people who come onto the boards asking for clarification on their punishments, I will not be providing any background info on the game (mainly because I believe it does not matter in the slightest what context was used, only what I typed). Just look at the chat and vote in the poll whether you agree with the punishment or not. It was only one game.

P.S. If you would like to know the context of the situation just ask and I'll gladly answer.

Trying to leverage a potential report in order to subjugate another player is indicative of toxicity.

Well deserved chat restriction. Don't threaten others with reports, if you are going to report ... do it quietly , after the game.

I was not calling for reports, my team mates were calling for reports on me. That is what I was trying to explain to my team mates. They were harassing me and I was simply telling them that telling the other team to all report me was ban worthy.

This is why I am confused. My team mates were calling me names and such then asking the other team to report me and I said that I can report you for that.

That's where the mute feature comes in handy. Not only are you not subjected to their harassment anymore, but you're also less like to say something punish-worthy in response. It doesn't matter how many reports you get in game. 9 reports is no more damaging than a single report, as it's the number of games that you're reported in that matters to Riot. And even so, those reports won't do a thing to you if you don't do anything punish-worthy.

What I am having a hard time understanding is how anything I said was worthy of a chat restriction.

Everyone here so far has just given me general tips on muting, which I already know.

Can someone please tell me where in the chat I said something worthy of being punished?

I was only trying to tell my team mates that telling the other team to report me is harassment, and that I was going to report them unless they apologized. How is it that I was punished for this?

Please help me understand.

Riot doesn't approve of any form of bickering, it would be one thing if you said in a flat tone that:

They were harassing me and I was simply telling them that telling the other team to all report me was ban worthy.

But you decided to drag the conversation out and use the system as leverage which is not okay. Like the guy before you said 10 out of 10 games when this happens, just mute them and report them afterwards. You will not receive any punishments for not saying anything. Riot will over look the whole "refusing to communicate with team" if the chat is a toxic environment.

This should be common knowledge now.

Here's a quick tip to avoid future punishments. If another player has done something report-worthy, don't talk to them about it in game. Mute them if necessary and just report them at the post game screen. It will save you a lot of hassle, trust me.

So telling your team mate that you are going to report them is worth a chat restriction? I don't get it. I was only telling them that in an effort to get them to stop.

Riot has stated that this alone is reportable (aka punishable). And it only gets worse from there.

You seem to have the impression that if you don't use foul language, you can say whatever you want. That isn't true. In this game, you were crazy negative along with threatening to report teammates. That's all it takes.

I wasn't "threatening" to report them, I was simply informing them their behavior was not acceptable and would result in a report unless they apologized to me. Which they did do eventually, but after that when the game was slipping away they began harassing me again.

I hope they were all punished as well for this, as they created a very negative experience for me which will result in my withdrawal from this game on the player and business side.

Yeah... you were simply "informing" them... without skipping any opportunity to express your happiness over them being banned. You were non-stop passive aggressive.

I find it pretty funny... You see, there was fairly recently a thread that pointed out that the way you behaved in this chat log was the "perfect" way to be toxic without getting banned while provoking others into getting banned. It even included always using smileys. I'm of course by no means implying that you were trolling these people... regardless, thanks for falsifying that theory of how not to get banned.

There is no need to engage in a argument with another player. This just makes the situation worse. You created a negative experience for the rest of the players.

While nothing you typed by it's self is extremely toxic the whole situation made worse turns the experience into a very toxic one.

So once again.

Saying your going to report someone does create a negative experience and makes the situation worse. Can also be considered retaliation.(not reporting but threatening)

This was way towards the end of the game when you should have already muted them and just played the game rather then engaging them.

No need to bring the other team into it. This is expanding a bad experience.

Now I want to make this very clear. Nothing you said by it's self was toxic. But by continuing the argument and engaging them you make the situation worse. This creates a far more negative experience and affected other players. This is not ban worthy in my opinion however a 10 game chat restriction might help you to remember that is it better to..

Mute. Report. Move on.

I think I understand. I guess I just won't participate in any conversation and just mute everyone each game. If I can't try to help people understand they can be banned for being mean to people then there's no point in talking to anyone.

Really disappointed in Riot for this. I've never been punished on any game in my life so it makes me want to quit playing if this is how they view my behavior.

And I was going to buy the company from Tencent too...guess I'll have to invest my money elsewhere.

If you read the following and think "I don't deserve a penalty" you are kidding yourself. It's not that you were raging at anyone, it's that you were contributing to the toxicity. You were directly "making the game harder to win" and "being a jerk". Those things lead to action on your account and you WERE doing those things. You can accept that, or it'll probably mean you'll be looking at 25 games soon.
