Hey everyone! I'm back from serving my two week ban and would love the opportunity to discuss the severity with you!

For context, at the beginning of the match that little rhyming quote that I won't repeat was in reference to me and Ezreal making jokes in champ select. We both agreed to play a gay bot lane so we went Taric and Ezreal; as they're known to ship together. The bags sentence after is because I realized someone might take that bad out of context so I specified Bags of Gold in relation to the first blood we scored together.

So my question to pitch is this:

Is the reason why I went right up to a 2 week ban because what I said might have been considered hate speech without context?

 

I already know what I said below wasn't up to par with what's expected and how I usually am. I just had a bad night and was cranky. I'm sorry for that.

Yes. You may had been joking with the ez and the ez may have accepted your jokes and won't report you. But you have to understand that there are also 3 other teammates (8 if you take it to all chat) who may not appreciate your "jokes" nor want that sort of things in their team chat. It's not a private space between you two. Team chat belongs to all 5 people (10 if you take it to all chat). Just like when you are out in public places where there are other people around, social etiquette tells you not to throw racist, homophobic, etc. slurs around within earshot of strangers.

Using hate speech as a "joke" doesn't make it any less hate speech. In fact, using hate speech as a joke is actually worse - because the only reason it's funny to you is because it is hate speech.

Yes. Zero-tolerance language such as racism, homophobia, and other discriminatory slurs are punished with an immediate 14-day suspension.

Yea pretty much. Those terms are zero-tolerance terms. If you are going to do something like that I suggest a voice chat program to keep it out of chat. Serious and Joking is tough to tell at times through text and can easily be misconstrued. Riot looks at things in a vacuum usually and context is usually irrelevant. Yours MIGHT be an exception but to play it safe just don't say that type of stuff in chat.

If you think what you said is bad, I used to spam the n-word in chat - an example of something I said to a Lucian ADC: "I meant to ignite the support, not the happy ass n----r with two guns."

You're way better than I was. But yeah hate speech is a big no-no.

Anyway, Rito is going to punish you for anything like this, because according to them and a significant part of the community, reading the word british word for cigarette causes serious mental and physical damages to easily melting individuals. In the future you should avoid using words that might hurt the mimosas or just chat at all, because you are extremely easily punished for anything after a 14 day ban (and the next one will be perma).

Yes and no?

I'm a pretty toxic person. And the fact I've gotten away with half the stuff I said wouldn't make sense for a first time offender such as you. Some stuff I've said:

First Scenario: (Enemy Teemo top, Warwick Jungle. I'm currently demolishing lane as Darius).

Warwick comes to gank. Me: "Teemo, get your service dog out of my lane."

Second scenario: (Enemy talon in Middle while Zoe went to roam bottom level 4).

Talon in all chat, "Open mid."

I respond, "Open brain."

These are a few of MANY. Ofc I'm joking, but still. There needs to be some standard here with joking.
