Suspended on wrong term/ unrightfully accused of "elo boosting"

Dear summoners,

My name is Tim and I am fron The Netherlands. I am 20 years old/

I have been playing league of legends since 2012/2013. My ingame username is IBobNL and i play on the EUW server.

I never have had any issues with riot, or with their banning system. I have once been chat restricted because I wasn't feeling so great and i started to flame people.

Now i have been grinding my a.. of this year to reach my platinum goal. When i started playing i ended up in silver the next year i got gold this year i finally reached platinum 5.

I was really happy when i reached my goal, and after i reached my goal i started to play more normal games, try some other champions out and so on. Now the season has ended I received my sivir skin, and the platinum border that i was so happy i achieved.

Now one day ago i received an e-mail from riot after i left a convention(vivarium) stating that I have been suspended duo to "elo boosting" The e-mail said that they have investigated my account and came to the conclusion that someone other then me had boosted me to platinum.

I have never ever did anything like this. Ofcourse i have played duo q with friends, played duo q with people i've met in the game. If i did this then i would accept the punnisment but ITS NOT RIGHT so accuse somebody of elo boosting while this never happend.

I understand riot can make mistakes and people makes mistakes and I really hope this will get fixed. I highly doubt it though.

I have submitted a ticket and i'ts being forwarded to a player behaviour specialist.

I really hope this issue will get resolved, and then i will be very happy. If i doesn't with pain in my heart i will quit the game. because all that i have worked so hard for is then taken away from me. And the MOST IMPORTANT part is.

I will not play a game where you put all your free time and money for skins into and then get wrongfully banned without being helped properly.

Thank you, I Really hope this issue will get resolved. also i've given them my ip address. I hapven't played anywhere else really. yeah maybe one lan party at a friends house. But that is it. I also dont do any form of account sharing so. also i dont even know what kind of "evvidence they are suspending me on"

Unless you're using a Static IP (which, at least in the States, is something that must be specifically requested), giving them your IP address isn't that important. Most Dynamic IP systems refresh every week or two, which would reissue you a new address.

No one really knows what information they use to determine these bans, but I suspect it has a lot to do with playstyle - preferred roles/champions, typical builds, skill leveling order, rune/mastery page preferences, CSing habits (or jungle routes), etc. All these things - and more - leave a unique "fingerprint" that marks a player. When there is a drastic shift in them, that's evidence that a different person is playing on the account. The more changes, the stronger the evidence.

Additionally, those changes all tend to come with a performance drop - it takes time to get used to a new build, new champion, new whatever. So showing changes without a consequent performance drop is a very strong indicator that there's someone else playing. And showing immediate and significant improvement (especially when it's only a temporary change and improvement) would be pretty incontrovertible proof.

I'm not saying that's the case, here - I scanned through a couple months of your Match History, and haven't yet seen anything too strange (some recent shifts in champ preference, but I'd pin that on preseason changes). However, these bans sometimes take a long while to research - and may include other evidence I've never considered.

Thank you for your reply, this calmes my nerves down a little bit. Feels good I am taken seriously and there is going to be looken into. I am now more certain this thing will get resolved. If what you say is right, then I have nothing to be nervous about.

Again thank you for your replay, but that makes me wonder. How long will it take untill this thing will get resolved?

About the ip adress. I'm pretty sure they can lookup from what country and place i was logged in from. Its always the same country and the same town/city/place since ive never played league of legends from out of town. Didn't know my public ip would be dynamic. (System administrator talking here has now learned something new... how foolish of me.)

Support tickets can sometimes take a fairly long while on this kind of issue. If a Red notices this thread, it could be resolved more quickly.

I know that's not specific, but honestly it's pretty variable. Sorry I don't have better info.

I can't say with any certainty that it is, necessarily - I'm not sure how ISPs in your part of the world work, as far as similarities and differences. I know that here in the US, you have to specifically request a static IP, and that they often charge extra for it (at least for IPv4 - not sure about IPv6, since we haven't fully shifted there yet to my knowledge).

That said, they should be able to determine vague geographical data, even if you're dynamic - as I recall, ISPs tend to use specific ranges of IP addresses for specific areas - so any address you're assigned would be within a specific group based on where you're accessing from (ie, which of their DHCP servers you connect with).

Not sure where you live that that's the case, but I live in the US and my IP address (both internal and external) has been the same for the past year at least. I did not specifically request a Static IP address either. I know it hasn't changed because I run game servers from my home and my friends haven't had to change the address they enter except maybe once a year (emphasis on maybe, I swapped what service plan I was on around that time, which could have resulted in them changing my IP address as well). I've got a domain name I registered a few months ago that is pointing to my home IP address and I haven't had to change it either.

My ISPs in both OK and AL worked like this. I've heard from friends in WA that theirs was the same.

Quick question, though: are you using IPv4 or IPv6?

Keep in mind that somebody else playing even just one ranked game on your account is considered boosting. You don't have to necessarily have somebody else pull you up a significant amount at all for it to qualify? Have you shared your account info with anybody else who might have played a ranked game on your account, or allowed somebody else to play even one ranked game on it?

No, i am fully aware of this. I've been playing to long and i have putten to much of my own money and time in my account to take any risks. Also i don't like the idea of someone boosting me. I didnt deserve the reward then. I have never let anybody play on my account other then myself.

Whenever riot replies to these and has a conversation with the named person either it helps you prove your innocents or its fun to watch riot board stomp the person. Either way win win. Would not like you to be banned if you didn't deserve it.

I'm sorry about that then. I can imagine 99% of people are rightfully banned and complaining. I strongly disapprove anything in any form of cheating. Especially league of legends since i've always been about having a positive attitude keep improving myself and so on. Even made some league of legends video's recently. As you can imagine that platinum border is a pretty huge thing for me. I could continiue playing ofcourse. But i just dont like the idea of playing a game where something like this can happen and it doesnt get fixed. And i'm sure riot doesn't want this neither.

Tbh you account will remain banned since I've never seen riot look the other way since their reasoning is always backed by strong evidence (speculations?) Either way if you are innocent then i hope you gain access to ur account again and hopefully never get in this situation again. But once riot bans you then that's that and sometimes they hop on on boards to reply but not all the time.

well, there is one thing i know for sure. I didn't elo boost. That concludes only one thing for me: Riot is wrong. What do they need to do? Fix it. Then i will be happy, unfortunatly i don't expect thing to go that way. Riot is very big and I issue most of the players just scream and shout they didn't do anything when they clearly did. There we come to another problem that ruins things for other lol players.

Sadly I have the same problem. At first I didn't even get an email. I just got banned and I didn't know why. Only after conntacting riot I realized what is going on. They told me that my account is involved with MMR-boosting. But I'm the only one who has ever played this account for the whole time it exists and that's around 3 and a half years. The only thing that could be suspicious is the unstable MMR i had over time. A lot of ups and downs. And maybe me switching roles from time to time and still doing fine. But that can't be a reason to ban someone. After sending around 4 tickets trying to explain that I didn't get boosted in any way they told me they double checked and there is no way in me getting my stuff back becasue they are absulutly sure. Well, it's their game and they can do whatever they want to, even though we are the people they get money from. As you said, disappointment is the thing I feel the most after this. I'm sorry to say this, but I don't thing there is a chance that riot will change their minds. Anyways, I wish you best of luck, maybe it will work.

Yeah, that only proves that riot's system doesnt work. you cannot just band somebody by playing different. there are loads of tutorials jungle routs and stuff like that that can make you play different. for example: if you duo q with friends and they tell you where to go. something you don't normally do then that would indiciate them that someone else is playing. if you do this a couple of times you get banned for mmr boosting ( i guess) . it blows my mind that something like this can happen. especially when you are playing more then 2 years. i never got suspended for anything. i also had my ups and downs. My ticket is being forwarded to a player behaviour specialist. I don't know what that means but I don't think it will get resolved also.

That means you'll get a person which will check it again and I think this will be the person that will send you a reply for the first time. Not like the other ones that are just copy-pasted. This specialist was the on e who told me that they are absulutly sure.

The thing that bothers me the most is that if it's that easy for them to ban someone, it could happen a second time, just because I won some games in a row with a new champ for example. If it happens again I'll get perma banned and that's really bad. I invested more money into this account than I want to admit. I'll have to play around it I guess. Always playing the same role, if I want to play something else I'll have to play a lot of normal games first and do poorly (on purpose I guess), even if it's an old main of mine that I didn't play for half a year and simlar things. That's just sad.

I also have to admit that i have put way to much money into league of legends. I would guess atleast 300 euro. That is the thing indeed. I don't want to play a game where things like this can happen. If they would resolve the issue it would be fine, then there is atleast some assurance that we as players are taken care off. Now there is the fear of getting suspended again and lose everything you have worked for in the years you have played the game. Maybe you get a friend who is higher elo then you and you play duo q with him for instance. He tells you come top gank bot lane do this and do that. Now you get banned for elo boosting because you play differently. Maybe you watched some guides on how to improve your stategy, now you play different again. Maybe you just get lucky or you got a feeling for a champion. Now you get banned again. That is defenitly not something you want to think about when playing this game.
