I stole a quote from another thread .. apologies for not giving the props to you whoever..... Hello StrokeZ Paragraph VI of the Summoner s Code says : Show Humility in Victory, and Grace in Defeat http://na.leagueoflegends.com/articles/The_Summoners_Code Saying "gg easy" is very discouraging for the enemy team. It is an example of bad sportsmanship and a clear violation of the 4th paragraph of the Summoners Code. Please bear in mind that you can enjoy yourself, but not at anyone else’s expense.

I continue non stop to meet smurfs in low level games, and that really is fine and dandy. But what gets me everytime .. and I mean everytime is the smurfs that do it just to wreck low level games, and by the i am talking about the ones that actually brag they smurf to ruin low level games. Or the ones that just fish to get you all riled up (me) cause i am not on that skill level as them. Or they call you bad, trash, bronze level, boosted, or just a fkn retard.

Yes I get you can report the verbal abuse ones ... but in the quote above isnt that the exact thing it covers "Please bear in mind that you can enjoy yourself, but not at anyone else’s expense"? Even in the "Ask Riot" write up they do cover that there is an issue with smurfs ... yet there isnt anything being done?

I have played with legit new people, even people I have refer'd to play... as soon as a "stomping" match happens they get turned off .. nobody wants to hear these things or play in a game that is completely one sided. OR the flip side it creates toxicity because they see that somebody else do it in a match and got away with it ... (plz dont start on this topic we can all find or know people that are toxic and do not get caught- i have a list of at least 10 still playing).

OR how about the ones that are level 30 gold ranked and above playing with that one friend in level 10 games? .. fair right? not punishable yet abuses the hell of the match making system?

There is no excuse for my toxicity ... I genuinely was not this way when I started playing league ... I even got to gold 1 time myself , long ago . But these examples breed new people or even veterans into this black hole that makes leveling extremely stressful, painful, and down right not fun.

IF anyone has suggestions on how to help curb this or tips I am all ears cause i am literally tired of being in this situation. Also the mute button is a cop out, after chat is all a shit storm text as to report so so and so no communication... same as the chat filter and cussing.

I am sure this will get down voted into the abyss .... but I tried.

Let's rank your frustrations here because there are a couple separate ideas coming out:

  1. Smurfs
  2. Level 30-ranked-decently-players queueing with sub-30 players
  3. Toxicity from people that are doing well/ making sub-30 games unbearable for new people

So, I would say that smurfs are a reality and the matchmaking system tries its best to match smurfs with other smurfs or people that are higher level. The onus in 1 and 2 really is on the smurf or post-30 players. We need to realize that our attitude and performance is directly responsible for the enjoyment, or lack thereof, of the newbies with whom we're playing. I think one problem that I've encountered on my alt-account is that you don't know exactly who is sub-30 and who's higher level (sans border). So, if I gain an advantage as a level 20 player, I don't want to give that up because I don't know if you're level 21 or level 30 - so if I start stomping, it's only because I want to win, not because I want to demoralize you.

On that note, people that start the game fresh need to realize that there's a learning curve. You're going to lose games. It's tough but it's the same in any game or sport - you're going to lose to a more senior individual strictly because of experience. And if I'm playing on a low-level alt, I realize I'm going to lose because the person/people I'm playing against are higher level or are just plain better. It's the reality of the game. I enjoy the challenges that that poses but not everyone has fun with that type of thing.

As for the trash talk, that has no place in the game, especially in sub-30 games. Good-natured banter is fine but those people that choose to rub it in will be punished. I know it's tough but report and move on. Try to find those players you DO enjoy playing with and have a good time with it.

Ironically, I also want to point out, if you want to get your point across, a slightly shorter, pithy post is the best way to do it with one specific point and an examples to drive it home. Hope you have an enjoyable day!

i guess that would be from me quoting a Community Coordinator on EUW named RoniBoo on this post : http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/player-behavior-moderation/PcPKuc2V-do-you-think-ggez-should-be-a-bannable-offense?comment=000c

but i think it should be noted that this was a response in regard to "gg ez", not smurfs, also that the post is form 2012.

not to worry tho, i went ahead and did some leg work:

Is smurfing okay? Why don’t you have better solutions in place for this?

WookieeCookie: We don’t endorse smurfing, but tackling it is a very difficult issue because of our player population size and the ease of account creation. We agree that smurfing can really ruin the game, such as when a smurf stomps lower-tier players. However; from past attempts we've learned that it's a real uphill battle to create powerful restrictions on alt-accounts without inadvertently affecting the majority of our players who don't smurf at all. Instead of cumbersome systems to blanket restrict smurfing we're looking for targeted answers that attack specific pain points. For example, if we find a player is using a smurf to actively hurt the game and other players we’ll take direct action on that account, and in some cases their main account as well.

Ghostcrawler: Sometimes players are smurfing because they are trying to accomplish something that League isn’t offering - in other words, the need is unmet. For example, playing with a friend with a different skill set is a noble pursuit that League doesn’t support very well. Other players might make a smurf account because they want a sense of rapid progression that they experienced when leveling from 1-30 or maybe even climbing through Bronze and Silver. So we should be careful not to paint all smurfs with broad strokes and assume that they are trying to grief actual new players. They may have other intentions. That said, taken on the whole, I’m not a fan of smurfing and worry the potential harm to other players outweighs the benefits to those players with unmet needs.

WookieeCookie: Agreed! That’s why we can’t endorse it. Instead of trying to restrict or prevent smurfs, various teams across Riot try to minimize issues caused by smurfing. For example, one of the teams that works on meta-game systems developed pretty good detection methods that quickly separate new players from experienced smurf accounts in the early levels. Within a few matches, smurf accounts only end up playing against other smurf accounts.

so it would seem like riot is aware of the problem smurfs causes but having trouble finding a solution.
