Rant: Instant-Feedback System is stupid.

tl;dr If you don't like someone, you disagree with someone, you don't like the champion they picked, you don't like a single play they made, or you're just having a bad day, you report people for nonsensical reasons and they get punished because it accumulates. Unless I guess they just don't use chat at all. But if using chat is punishable, then get rid of the stupid chat box. I've thus decided in all future games:

  • If I see someone use chat other than to say "good job," I'm reporting them. Why? Because the stupid broken system is stupid and broken.

Triggered. This qualifies for chat restriction, while I literally see people saying "i hope you get cancer in real life and die." If the contents of these chat logs is too unbearable, Grow. Up.

Game 1 Context: (This is the only conceivably "toxic" one)

  • At the time, an account with minimum number of champs to play ranked, no real viable supports and I got autofilled. I requested to swap for any other role and was denied, so I took Teemo support.
  • First 30s of game: ADC uses Heal out of nowhere
  • I ask the ADC to help when I engage, instead of just CSing and watching me 1v2
  • I roam mid, gank mid. Talon dies and Annie has to recall, so I start shoving mid lane to tower, to a flurry of spam pings and inflammatory remarks from Talon and Singed.
  • ADC joins in, flaming me because they died before I got back to bot lane.
  • Singed decides to join back in the flaming because I picked Teemo support. (Specifically harassing for picking Teemo.)

Game 2 Context: The player who was assigned jungle had his one-trick jungle champ banned. So he took Teemo and came duo top with me (we had no jungle) and trolled my lane, including taking as much cs as possible from me and intentional feeding the enemy Garen. (At one point I respond to a "wait how did Garen get fed?") I managed to go 16/5 and carry for the win.

Game 3 Context: I honestly have no idea. I'm guessing it was someone harassing me based on champion choice or my decision to roam or anything. In case you great elo mongerers are unaware, "report ____" occurs probably in 99% of NA silver games, on at least one team. If your team isn't saying it, the enemy team is all-chatting you to report their "feeder." So in response to someone saying report me, likely among other harassment, I say well...2 lines of text.

Alright, let's get this straight:

League of Legends is a game that's played by many millions of players casually. As in, one or two games a day at most, and they play it after school/work to relax. This isn't some pro sports arena where there's a team captain - everyone is equal.

That being said, you do not get to boss your team around, you do not get to determine others' behavior and whether it merits a punishment, and you certainly don't get to spam chat for the entire game with the aforementioned. You are not "arguing", you are trying to belittle your teammates and make them do your bidding as if they were your slaves - which they are not.

Note that I didn't read your provided context. There's no need for me to. Riot, and the community (from which Riot bases its punishment criteria) have repeatedly punished people even with the excuse of "I didn't start it". Long story short, it doesn't matter who's being toxic, who's playing bad, who's "trolling", or anything else. You do not get to fight their "fire" (or toxicity) by adding to it with more of your own "fire".

That is why you were punished - not for "arguing", not for "using chat", not for "nonsensical reasons", but because you abused the chat feature to constantly belittle and boss your teammates around in retaliation for their performance.

No, I did not retaliate in response to their performance. I responded to indicate I wasn’t bronze, because they were spamming chat with “fk u bronze noob bitch”

The first one, definitely, is punishment worthy. Instead of muting, you act superior the entire time. The second one, you keep trying to fight with Teemo.

  1. Well isn't this the most sensitive community in the world. Hear-ye hear-ye, I've found the safe-space everyone has been looking for. People get punished/chat-restricted/banned for acting superior. Never mind that those players were rapidly throwing out "fk u b******** u suck noob" constantly throughout the match.

  2. Of COURSE I was complainant about the Teemo. He was literally trolling me. It wasn't like "oh hey I'm having a bad game." He was assigned jungle. He consciously took Teemo, Flash/TP, went top, took as much CS as he could while intentionally feeding (read: tower diving at early levels) my enemy top-laner. This wasn't an accidental bad game. He was trying to ruin the match, in a ranked game, period.

My point remains. I'm not questioning whether arguing is mature or not. If the system is such that that is a punishable offense, then I am going to simply never use mute, never type anything, and report anyone I see use chat for any reason other than saying "good job" to someone, whether it's "why did you ____" or "fk me" or "ff15" or whatever. After all, we can't have those scoundrels on the loose---not in our little Teletubby community of positivity.

The alternative would be to take the chat restriction to heart and attempt to communicate productively, or at least neutrally, with your team, rather than engaging in pointless and wasteful internet arguments that detract from the fun of the game as a whole.

I'm sure both options have their pros and cons. /s

If riot feels so strongly about punishing people for using the chat box, they should offer an option that disables it completely. Not typing /mute all every game, but saying “I don’t want the chat box in my game, period.”

The alternative is, use chat to hunt for players to report every game.

This is not my response to disagreement. This is my response to what I feel to be unwarranted punishment and a broken system.

This is some petty shit.

Oh. My. God. You're calling me petty and acting superior. Verbal abuse. Reported. You're toxic. Someone quick, restrict his privilege to use the forum.

See? If this was in a game chat log and posted on the forum, someone would say "you said they were petty and harassed them, so you were toxic, so you deserved your punishment. It doesn't matter whatever they said, you are at fault for responding." Thank you for emphasizing my point.

Forums are different from the game. This is literally a discussion forum. The game isn't. In the game, there's no reason to get into a bullshit argument, because you're supposed to be focused on winning. On the forums, bullshit arguments are often all there is.

I post like I post and I play like I play, and I've never faced restriction from Riot for either my conduct in-game or on the forums. You can't say the same, so clearly I know something you don't know.

You made a mistake. Fortunately, it's a mistake with a relatively minor consequence, and you've probably already worked it off. Now, you're faced with two options: You can learn from that mistake, like an adult, and play your game restriction-free for as long as you choose. OR you can cry injustice like you're doing here, blaming everybody but yourself, and delude yourself about what truly happened and who truly is to blame in order to chase a fleeting sense of personal satisfaction.

If you choose the latter, we'll see you back to complain about your 14-day ban or perma soon enough.

Choose wisely.

There might be toxicity in pre/post game chat which isn't shown in the chat logs, you might have edited stuff out, there might be a bug for displaying the full log within the system.

I'm inclined to believe those things first before thinking the system doesn't work.
