Riot pls do something about trolls

So I was playing a ranked game recently and I came across one of the worst cases of trolling I had seen. While my team nearly made it work it became impossible to stop the splitpush because our guy eventually didn't leave the base.

It got more interesting however because this guy actually put a link to his twitch in the chat, where he was streaming himself trolling ranked games.

I was interested enough and asked him about what he does and tried to get some perspective. He'd been a gamer since he was young, saying it was something he did as young as 5 years old. When asked about his experiences trolling he said it began with Call of Duty where voice chat was much more common. Another player called him a derogatory term and he very quickly picked up on how easy it was to get angry reactions out of other players.

While it's probably not very shocking to hear what I learned from this was the the most important thing to his trolling is the angry reactions. In a game like league of legends I believe this is easily achievable for him. He joins one game and has 4 other players to upset. Each of those players potentially values their rank and now has something to lose for his behavior. And those players are locked in for a minimum of 20 minutes (not 15 if he doesn't surrender)

Most people feel the solution here is obvious. Report him and eventually he will get banned. But after asking him about it it doesn't seem so simple. Between the time of the reports and riots response he still plays plenty of games to get what he wants. I asked him if he'd been banned and he said of course, part of the fun for him was creating a new account and starting all over.

This kind of behavior can feel incredibly frustrating especially when on the receiving end. As a player you and your team simply have to deal with this guy for the next 20 minutes and there is nothing you can do about it.

I think this setup is very enabling for trolling like this. 4 players at a time for 20 minutes each.

I have some potential solutions for this and I want to hear what others think and any other solutions people might have

1 create a remake option for this kind of game. If players only have to deal with this for a few minutes it's less incentive for trolls to put in so much effort for a short amount of time. This also fixes the LP problem because the other 4 players would no longer have a risk of losing LP.

This doesn't really work though because what's to stop people from using this on any game they feel is going to be like a loss. Making this work is tough.

2 refunding LP after reports are reviewed. If players are no longer worried about losing their rank because they'll just get the LP back then there's a lot less frustration. Players could just tab out and let the troll waste his own time

3 IP bans, now this one is a hefty task. But after talking with a troll, he agreed that this is the only thing that would stop him from continuing

4 temporary ranked ban, if a player is receiving consistent reports for inting then just lock them from playing ranked games. Obviously trolling a draft game is still possible but there's less harm done. Players can just tab out from a normal game and it's no longer fun for a troll

  1. You kinda debunked that idea yourself.

  2. Two issues with this. The imbalance of LP has to be dealt with. So that would mean that the winning team would also lose LP. Second, the time it takes for someone to get punished for trolling might be days (or weeks) due the necessity of a manual review to catch some trolls. In those days a person may go through promotion matches, or have dropped a rank. How does the system handle refunding or adding LP in those cases? Should they gain LP for a loss due to a troll in Silver 1 when they're currently in Gold 4?

  3. Doesn't work nearly as well as you think it will for two major reasons.

    • Many people have dynamic IP addresses that change according to the whims of their ISP. IP bans are effectively worthless on these people.
    • Multiple computers can be tied to a singular external IP address. For example a college dorm likely has all the clients tied to a single switch and that has one external IP address. Banning that IP address would mean banning all computers in that dorm. In summary, it causes a bunch of collateral damage.
  4. If someone is detected as trolling I would rather they just get banned. Just receiving reports is not proof of anything as people who attempt to challenge the meta often get salty reports when things don't go perfectly.

They can not do anything about trolls.Because if they ban all the trolls they would have like 2/3 playerbase banned.U must accept that League of Legends is toxic game and vast majority are trolls. And second ,the program who banns people can;t detect them...simple as that
