I know many people have been talking about being wrongfully banned, but I wanted to talk about mine.

Basically, I was caught inside of the banwave and I've been trying to talk to support, but the person who's dealing with my ticket isn't listening to what I'm saying, even after showing proof and I can't ever find the live chat active for account bans.

A few months ago, I had my account hijacked and this person played ranked and even cheated on my account for the week or two that he had my account.

After talking with support, the Riot employee helped me get my account back and all was fine, until I got permabanned for cheating a few weeks later.

I got that fixed with another employee on live chat and everything was fine.

The issue is that the hijacker had played ranked on my account and gotten my account to Silver. I didn't think much of it, because I didn't think that this hijacker would haunt me today, getting my account locked away for a third time, this time being because of MMRBoosting.

The issue is that I really don't care about this rank and I really wouldn't mind if they had revoked the ranking, rewards, everything that happened during the week or two that the hijacker had my account. I just hate knowing that this leaves a mark on my profile, knowing that if something happened again and I got banned for MMRBoosting for any other reason, I'd score a permaban. And as an extra burn, I lose all of my Honour rankings and get locked to Honour 0.

Isn't there anything I can do or am I screwed since Riot support isn't being helpful or won't explain why having a hijacker means that I'm doomed for a ban even if I couldn't have changed a thing?

Youre screwed because Riot has an account security system from 1997 and punishes their players for it instead of reinvesting in their game for once and implementing two factor. Fun fact: startups with less than a tenth of Riots capital can implement two factor.

It almost sounds like a case of getting repeatedly banned by different people for the same incident, but I can't imagine there isn't a mark on your account somewhere explaining the whole thing and exempting it from being punished for the same incident they'd already resolved multiple times. But, if there isn't, it really does sound like it's just being picked up by the system repeatedly and you keep having to get it undone. I'd imagine if you got it fixed the times before you'd be able to again, especially maybe if you spoke to the Rioter that had handled one of the previous incidents, if at all possible.

I upvoted you because this seems like a legitimate case of a ban being applied in error. If you're telling the truth then I hope Riot sees this and helps you out. If you're lying though, posting about it won't help you because Riot will have the evidence and they are the ultimate authority on this.

Now that the preamble is done, here's my advice:

You might be able to refer the Rioter you are currently speaking with (in support) to the ticket number of the tickets you had to submit when recovering your account.

If they can see the tickets of you recovering your account they might realize that this is what it was for.

They have given you their word that they are confident the ban was not applied in error, anything else they give you would run the risk of helping boosters figure out how to avoid the detection system. They aren't going to take that risk.

So you should either be trying to fight the ban by calmly and politely explaining or proving that you didn't share your account, or you should accept it and move on.

Prodding them to explain their system is not going to accomplish anything. As I've explained now.

I have been trying to explain as much as I can that I haven't shared my account, I have about 15-20 ranked games on my account and it's why I'm so confused.

I don't know what else it could be beside the person who hijacked me, so that's why I'm really confused why they're so confident that the ban was correctly applied.

I don't know how else I can prove that my account wasn't shared.

The only thing I can think of is that I have a new pc, but I haven't played ranked yet on this new pc and I played the game on my account (not ranked though) at my friend's house once or twice.

Riot isn't going to tell you how they detect boosting / account sharing. But that doesn't mean you can't investigate the account yourself and use your own methods.

I don't know if there are sites that allow you to do this, but you can try downloading your match history in spreadsheet format and looking through it for discrepancies such as games played at times you don't normally play, or champions / item / summoner spell choices and placements that don't fit your usual patterns. That might help you to find it.

and if I were to play while on vacation in a few weeks, which will be halfway across the country, in america, I'm basically putting myself at a risk of getting banned, even if it's not even ranked mode?

It's not just MMR boosting that is considered against the rules. Sharing accounts is too, in part because if Riot allowed players to share accounts it would be much harder to pin down who was responsible for bad behavior on that account. Both activities are punished equally.

Not exactly. It takes a lot to trigger the system, in part because Riot cares a lot about avoiding false positives. Not saying false positives don't happen, because they do sometimes. I'm sure they cross reference a lot of different methods in order to make sure that people are not punished simply for playing in a different location or on the same computer.

If your speculation is right, then I'm really lost as to why and how I triggered something for Riot to end up banning me.

The only other thing I can remember is that my router screws up a lot and I need to restart it, so maybe because of that it changes the... what's it called, dynamic IP?

But I really doubt something like that would be the cause of getting banned, right?

I don't know how Riot detects these things, but I'm not about to give you more information about it since you seem to be just digging for information that Riot has made perfectly clear they don't want you to know.

Whatever the case, they are confident you shared your account. Which means either your situation perfectly mirrored somebody account-sharing or it actually was somebody account sharing.

If you want to figure it out yourself you can do what I suggested and dig through your match history to see if somebody 'borrowed' your account while you weren't looking.

Stop digging where you shouldn't.

yeah I'm going to take your advice and look in my match history, hopefully I find something

I'll change my password again just to be sure I don't have someone using my account behind my back without them changing my password or something

So all live chat did was let me know that apparently whatever ticked off the 'he's being MMRBoosted' thing was apparently not a part of the hijack? The Riot employee was super vague and really wasn't helpful at all, all they gave me were canned responses and threats to close the chat.

He wouldn't even tell me if there really was a third person on my account, even if this wouldn't give any information about the MMRBoosting methods they use or whatever.

I don't know what to do anymore to try and get this ban appealed.

Edit: also, the only person I've come in contact is the same Riot employee, so that probably isn't helping with getting another employee's point of view or help on this situation

They were vague and uninformative because they cannot tell you anything that might give you any indication as to how their detection system works. If they give anything away then MMR boosters might find ways around it.

It's shitty if you're legitimately not boosting or account sharing, but that's the nature of the beast.

You can try referring them to your tickets from the account recovery incident again, but if they say they know about that and it's not what caused it, I'm inclined to think that somebody else played on your account again. Are you sure you didn't let somebody play on your account some time? Like a friend or a sibling? Or is there anybody who might have known your login credentials?

You could try looking through your own match history to find any games you don't remember playing, but it's going to take some serious digging.

Got to say this seems a very odd thread, I'm a bit confused is there further info you haven't thought to add ? I'm not accusing you of anything. I'm going to try to keep an eye on this thread.

I don't know what else to add, really.

The Riot employee won't tell more except that letting someone else on my account isn't an acceptable thing, no matter how many times I tell them that I never wanted this person on my account.

So I got punished for getting hijacked, basically. I don't really know how else to word it better, sorry.

When I was hijacked, the person renamed my account to 'hi im uselessz' if that can help with information.

I appreciate it, support hasn't helped me at all and I'm just glad I'm not being stoned and called a liar.

I'm hoping I can get some help here or a response from a Riot employee clearing things up because I really just wanna play League and not have to deal with the shadow of this hijacker haunting me even months after this whole event was supposed to be buried and done with.

Your honor rewards shouldn't be stripped for something that wasn't your fault, there have been many account that have gotten hacked last year. I don't see any reason riot doesn't just strip the silver rewards for this season off your account.

For the people that think riot would've noted for the system to not ban X player because hijacked account, If riot had the time to flag every single player whose password got leaked via 3rd party site or scams sites, they wouldn't have enough time to deal with other issues they probably assume those player who got hijacked account will just submit a ticket and be done with it.

I don't have a clue. All I could think would be for you to submit another ticket asking to talk to someone you'd spoken to before. Or just keep trying I guess. Would kind of suck if it keeps happening though.

An update on this situation: a new Riot employee looked at my situation and unbanned me!

I'm really glad this got resolved and that it was all a mistake.
