From 2 weeks suspension to permanently banned

Hello people,

TL;DR I got an account gifted by a friend of mine, used it as my account, got it suspended for 2 weeks as it was "boosted". Contacted support to clearify the situation and they "comprimised" (I told them myself unknowingly this was not allowed) I'm an account "buyer, trader, seller, gifter" and permanently banned my account. Apparently getting an account gifted to you by whomever is a permanently bannable offense. Morale of the story, don't be honest to the system.

So as many other players I had a smurf account. My smurf account got suspended for 2 weeks because it was "MMR boosted". I personally thought this was weird because it actually was my own account, and I don't think you can "boost" your own account. So I send Riot this message:

"PROPHET987 December 16, 2015 21:06 Dear Riot,

Yesterday, I received an e-mail informing me that my account, Azadda, has been suspended for 2 weeks and lost all ranked season rewards because of MMR boosting. Thing is, I have not boosted this account, since it's actually my account. It's my so called second account or "smurf". Now I do understand that it's weird since the account was Bronze V till halfway season 5. So that's why I'm typing this ticket. The situation is as follows. I got the account from an in-game friend of mine, since he didn't use it anymore and he knew I was looking for a second account. So, I changed the password and the e-mail, and it became mine. After this I got it up into somewhere in Gold. In short, it's my account, I think the suspension is not right, so maybe you could look into it. However, I do understand that the whole situation is a bit weird, and because of this, I do understand the suspension. I just don't think it's appropriate.

Greetings,"

So the next day, I got a response. This was the response I got:

MISTY SLASHER December 17, 2015 02:58 Hello Prophet987,

Your suspension was only issued after an extensive investigation was run to ensure your involvement in MMR boosting. As explained in the email you received in response to your suspension, the following actions have been taken on your account:

-A two-week suspension has been issued to your account. -All previous Season rewards (Victorious skins, borders, season icons, season ward skins) have been stripped from your account. -You are ineligible for any 2015 Season rewards

While you may feel that this punishment is too harsh, please realize that having accounts boosted, for whatever reason, ruins the spirit of League of Legends competitive play. While you are ineligible for any rewards in the 2015 Season, this does not disqualify you for anything pertaining to the 2016 Season. Keep in mind that if you have any future involvement in MMR boosting, your account will be permanently suspended.

More information, including the definition of Boosting can be found here: https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/201751834-MMR-ELO-Boosting

While reading the response I realised they either didn't understand my request, or they just didn't read it at all. So I decided to write another message, explaining the situation once again. The message was as follows:

PROPHET987 December 17, 2015 11:40 Hello Misty,

The concept of my request wasn't entirely clear I believe. I know that MMR boosting is wrong, and I do understand you punish for that. The thing is, how is it MMR boosting when it's your own account? The way I feel now is that I'm not allowed to have a second account because that apparently is considered as MMR boosting. Like I said in my previous message, I'm not the creator of the account, but I'm 100% the owner now. It has my e-mail linked to it, and I'm the only one who knows the password (as far as I know). So, in short, I do understand you have to punish for MMR boosting, I just don't think it's fair to punish me since I "boosted" my own account.

Have a nice day,

As said in my first message, and my second message, I'm not the creator of the account. The situation is as follows. I got the account gifted by a friend of mine because he didn't use it anymore, and knew I was looking for a so called "smurf" account. What I didn't know, is that this is considered as a violation to the terms of use. The response I got: (I highlighted the terms of use I violated.

WOBBY JIBBLER December 19, 2015 19:59 Hello Prophet987,

The action of buying, selling, trading, or giving away an account is strictly against our Terms of Use. We will investigate this account and take appropriate action if there are signs that it has been compromised, however, we do not offer support for accounts that have been found to be in violation of our Terms of Use per the following:

"D. Account Sales. The Account supplied to you is personal to you, and Riot Games does not recognize and expressly forbids the transfer of user Accounts. You shall not purchase, sell, gift or trade any Account, or make any such offer, and any attempt shall be null and void. If you can provide me with any additional information regarding the investigation of this account, I will be more than happy to investigate further. Please note that it is unlikely that this account will be restored.

After I got this message, my account got another 1.5 month restriction on top of the earlier 2 weeks. I honestly had no Idea, that getting an account gifted by a friend since he didn't use it anymore, was in violation of the terms of use. So I send this message in response. (A bit later because I was fairly busy with Christmas).

PROPHET987 Yesterday at 16:23 Hello Wobby,

I had no idea that having an account gifted was violating the terms of Riot games. I do understand the punishment, allthough I think it's weird since you didn't compromise it, I told it unknowingly is was wrong. That got me another 1.5 month suspension for being honest, well that's nice. I will ask no further questions and give no further information since I don't want to get my account banned permanently.

Enjoy your Christmas, and a happy new year.

It was after I send this message, that I realised my account was allready permanently banned. So I send another message straight after:

PROPHET987 Yesterday at 16:33 Apparently I got banned permanently for some honest questions and clarification allready. Good that the support is so thoughtful, and I go from 2 weeks suspension to permanently banned because I only wanted some clarification about the earlier suspension. Good that you "comprimised" me for being "an account buyer, trader, seller or gifter" while I got this account gifted to me by a friend who didn't use it anymore. So let me get this clear, if I didn't contact support about it, I would sit out my suspension of 2 weeks, and be able to play on it afterwards without any further problems. Guess who's not contacting player support ever again.

Have a nice day.

Now, I know it's my mistake for not reading the Terms of Use (who actually does that), so I do understand I get punished for that. However. What I do not understand is the fact that because I wanted some simple clarification about my 2 week suspension, and was completely honest in every single message I send. The fact that, as said in my last message, I looked for support to clarify my suspension and ended up banning my account permanently is ridiculous. Apparently Riot "comprimised me" for being an account "buyer, seller, trader or gifter" while I told them this myself in all honesty just to clear the situation up. It's obvious I had no idea about these terms, and I'm not professionaly trading accounts. In short I think it's not rightful to permanently ban my account because of my honesty.

What I believe to achieve with this post? I want people to not get in the same situation as I got in, so don't message support about your suspensions since they'll just ruin your day. I want to give this situation attention since even though I know it's their job to do so, it's not rightful. I don't think I'll ever see my account back again, but I'm not going down without sharing my story. Morale of the story, don't be honest to the system.

Edit; Apparently people believe I think I got banned because I was honest, and think that's what this whole post is about. Well guess what, it's about the fact they suspended me for something different, when I wanted clearification they decided to punish me for another matter they didn't even managed to figure out themselves. The whole post is about the fact they punish me for something they didn't even know if I didn't tell it to them. Apparently you don't read the parts where I say "I understand the punishment", and only the parts where I complain they ban me for something they can't figure out themselves. I guess people allways look for something to bitch on, but guess what, that's the League community. Kinda glad I'm not a part of this shithole anymore.

Thanks for reading, and a happy new year.

He didn't get punished because he was honest. He got punished because he broke the TOS.

He got caught because he complained, that's all ! and as bad as it may sound I laughed .

But It Wasn't Your account in the 1st place, so why get upset ? It's well known you can't use other peoples accounts, and if you do: You don't complain to Riot about it !

Come on your acting like your doing people a favor, and all your doing is complaining that you broke the rules, complained and got caught.

Bro, read what he said..he is mad bcs they banned him for being honest:)))))))that's what he thinks:))))))))))=))))

I Read it Bro ! They didn't take his main account away did they ? No, they took an account that was not his After he complained !!!!!!!

I was talking about what he thinks (which is the funny part), not what riot did:)...

Gotcha ! I was thinking it was like someone loaning you their car, if you get pulled over w/o insurance ( in Ohio) you lose your licence. You can't drive any car, so I was thinking OP did in fact get a break for being honest in he didn't lose his main account.

This will seem harsh, but if Riot did implement that boasters and boastee's ? both lose their main accounts then it would make everyone think a bit about buying, using and most of all Complaining about a punishment on an account that is Not their own..LOL Sorry Gambler I did misunderstand your point :)

nerak2312/27/2015, 2:46:13 PM1 votes

Now you're gonna throw the Terms of Use bullshit at me, and yes they're right, but being right isn't allways what it's about.

Personally I don't care if you use someone else's gifted account ! That in itself is nothing, however if Riot lets it slide at all then it becomes the excuse of everyone who gets boosted and that is why they are so strict about it.

You just can allow it because it isn't applicable. Besides, yes I will use the TOS because if you can make it to Gold then I don't know how you didn't understand that you can't buy, use or boost other accounts, and now you know You can avoid it in the future.

I got an account gifted by a friend of mine, used it as my account

That's all anyone needed to read.

The reason your account got permanently banned is because the account itself was compromised. It has nothing to do with you personally and probably would of been permanently banned just a month later during the wave of bans. You just expedited the process. Once again, it has nothing to do with you. They could of replied saying they appreciate your honesty however because the account is compromised they unfortunately cannot give you the account.

The best example I can give you is that, if a really rich coke dealer owns a mansion and gets caught for selling coke. His mansion gets seized along with all the property in it. It goes to the government(Riot in this case). Even if he gave the mansion away. The Mansion is still seized.

This is actually a real life story as this happened in my hometown where someone had a notorious drug dealing family and their mansion got seized and the house taken away. Even if he had completely clean family members.

Here's why they escalated the punishment: the account was banned for boosting (which you obviously did) which is a 2 week suspension, then when you told them someone else gave you the account (permanent ban worthy) they hit you with the perma.

Sure it sucks but if it's not your main account who the fuck cares?

A part of me thinks you were the original owner of the account and you got someone else to boost it, then made up this whole gifting story to make it seem like you didn't do anything wrong.

Makior7212/27/2015, 4:49:39 PM1 votes

Moral of the story seems to be.... Make your own account.

I got to admit that I was thinking something similar ! The whole boosted thing seemed off, but it'd take me to long to explain why...You said it just fine.

Bcs you are not smart:)))..it's like, you kill someone, go to the police to "confess", and expect to not get punished bcs you didn;t know that was a crime:)))

I have five accounts that I play on. Usually I am on my main account, this one. I have leveled three accounts to level 30 all by myself. You should be required to do the same. It's not hard. It is time consuming and I do wish Riot had a system that automatically put players to 30. Unfortunately that is not the case. I play on my other accounts when I get frustrated or need a break. Buying or being gifted an account SHOULD be a bannable offense. You should have to learn how to play and level your account like everyone else. Hope you take the time to ENJOY and learn about the game as opposed to buying an account that is already made for you. There is a sense of accomplishment when you level your own accounts to 30.
