What happened: The game begins normally until the first wave of minions arrive in lane. Suddenly, approximately six players disconnect for a period of approximately seven minutes. I reconnect to the game after the time has passed. Fast forward another sixty seconds and I'm disconnected again for a couple minutes. I knew the server was having maintenance and it's a risk I took playing the game. That's fine, it wasn't an issue that the game was interrupted. I reconnected yet again and began to help my team. I pushed top (first time I've ever used tibbers to push a wave) and eventually we were greeted with a victory screen.

This is where the issue arises: LeaverBuster marked me as having left the game or went AFK. And if I was marked, I wouldn't be surprised if at least bard and graves were marked too (Taliyah and Xin Zhao were red named). Why are systems of a billion dollar gaming company so poorly designed? Why does the system not take into account the fact that A.) Maintenance is occuring -- and B.) Multiple players from opposing teams disconnect? The system should have SOME sort of AI as opposed to some arbitrary rule where you were disconnected for X so get screwed.

Am I crazy?

Thank you! I thought I was insane. You've hit every point that was going through my mind. Also, considering six of us disconnected I think it's safe to assume that it was genuinely a routing issue ;)

Hah. I just got a warning after I stayed to the very end of a game which 3 other people left, quit normally when the defeat message came up, and then had the servers crash on me before I could report the troll-party. I have never typed in a message with more salt. I was one of two damn people who didn't leave, Riot.

The server was having issues -- it wasn't the "parties" fault. But yeah, further proof the system is flawed.

the system probably detected DCing connections and is unable to differentiate between DCs caused by your side or Riot's side.

It's just a warning for the first offenders, nothing too much to be worried about.

I would assume when "the button" is pressed, games that were affected by the server wide connection problems but dinged by leaver bustered would be reverted.

I did consider "the button" reverting changes but I'm pretty skeptical that's the case

You were afk and leave bust got you. See no flaw there.

Was a problem on Riot side, well that's not cool, but as you stated you knew that there were issues on Riot servers and you decided to risk either way.

You get that warning even if it's the first time you went afk. If you don't afk frequently then you have nothing to worry about. Those people that do afk frequently however need to be banned and not leaverbusted.

You're probably just trying to quell my suspected concerns but that's missing the point. I'm not worried, nor do I (personally) even care about the "punishment" itself. It's the fact that I was unjustly "punished". There's a subtle yet monumental difference.

Well like I said, If people don't afk frequently then they won't be punished. No need turn it into a matter of National Security. If people afk frequently and something that RIOT did sends them over the edge and causes them to get punished, then IDGAF, they deserved it because they afk too much.

I do get your point. You either don't want to or can't understand how toxic an afk is. I don't think RIOT does enough to get rid of them except slap people on the wrist with some BS low priority que garbage. They need to treat them like chat bans and start perma banning these idiots who afk frequently.

Well, since it was just a warning, you could actually look at this as a good sign. It means it's the first time you've done this, so it's not like you have a history of leaving games or anything like that. Keep that up and you'll be fine, even if you do have occasional disconnects outside of your control.

That said, I do think it would be acceptable for them to turn off leaverbuster during periods of maintenance where they know server instability is likely to occur (which they basically said about this maintenance window).
