it's not just in normal games

and it's because most players have the mentality of "it's just a normal so i can do whatever/act however i want"

Because they see themselves as "I am a challenger tier player, I am the best, I am so baddass" and so they expect thier team to play at the same standard. Anything that cracks thier illusion of a "perfect game" drives them up the wall. So these players will barrel down on any player not performing at thier own self percieved skill level (aka "I think I am platinum, so everyone else on my team has to play at a plat level too), they even include NEW players to the game in this unreal expectation I have lost count how many times people will completely lose thier shit on a new player who doesnt know how to play a champ they....GASP!...NEVER PLAYED BEFORE?! They are so hung up on thier own self perfection that the end up beating down thier teammates, degrading and insulting them till the match ends in a loss. And then to ad insult to injury, because the toxic "pro"player lost, they will often turn around and report the very people they were berating. (They will flame a new player for not knowing how to play a champ they have never played before....THEN turn around and try and report the player for "Feeding/Inting" because the new player in normals didnt auto-carry the toxic player to a win) Of course thats just what i have observed, I have been playing a long time (I am a veteran) and yet i am more than happy to try and help tutor new players rather than berate them and tear them down

They take the game too seriously, so instead of actually enjoying it they take the time to flame and be toxic.

Every competitive game has players who take the game too seriously. Best to just mute them asap if they say anything that comes off as toxic. Mute the pings too theyll spam ping you.

You know, before I started playing league, I've seen a lot of people say stuff like "oh, that game is so toxic" and other similar things. When I first installed it, I didn't expect it to actually be true... Boy was I wrong. I don't have much experience with these types of games as I usually play FPS games, and haven't played the game much, so obviously I'm bound to be terrible, but, I kid you not, out of the very few games I've played so far, I haven't had a SINGLE game, where someone wasn't being rude. Everyone's always flaming someone, and I've actually been reported twice already for feeding (this is on bot games, mind you, I've only played one game where the enemy were real players and I got flamed in that one too...) Like you can't expect someone who's barely played the game to be amazing... I'm used to toxicity because I've played a lot of other multiplayer games but this is by far the worst online experience I've ever had. I'm honestly tempted to uninstall...

"Wouldn't it be great if humans just weren't assholes?"

Sadly, this is too optimistic thoughts to be having.

As someone who is toxic in norms I'll tell you why.

This game is stressful. I'm already mad at the state of the game going in. So on the rare event I actually have a good game (where the OP champions in jungle or my lane aren't being fed) and someone screws it up severely... I rage.

But honestly, I'm mostly toxic to the champion abusers. I let them know they dont deserve the win because they hit their R that beats out half the champion roster (nocturne).

But then my teammates turn on me usually, then things spiral out of control.

A lot of interesting answers here, but I've come to a conclusion recently about this: People live stressful lives. They want to play league to de-stress. They let out their frustration on the game. And they probably get pretty angry if they know they're going to commit 20-45 minutes on a losing game.

IMO is just that feeling that when some one says it’s just a norm, but then your loosing it. Makes you think about how easy it was to win doesn’t it?
