How Does the Immidiate ban feature work?

I've had troubles before with being reported by my entire qued team for not typing anything the entire game even if we win. I don't know how those reports are judged that quickly to send me the status message of "Your behavior was unsportsmanlike and could result in a ban" something along these lines, but I wasn't banned yet. I really do wonder how all of it works.. does it judge importance by how many people reported the one person? or the offense?... I play fairly well. Before I got a 14 day ban, I played a lot of chatless games because I thought it was more fun. I don't think not using chat should be a crime.. I use pings and they communicate everything you need to say In a league game without flame.. yet people don't approve of using them alone... thanks for the concern.

The system punishes people based on consistency x severity.

So if you had a game that used alot of racial / homophobic slurs or telling people to harm themselves, you'll get punished in 1 game (high severity).

If you are constantly mildly toxic (such has calling for reports to harass someone or giving up), then you'll be punished over many games. (High consistency)

It is possible to get punished even if you don't use chat. Gameplay that you intentionally give up and are using actions to show a grievance (intentional feeding).

There are also people that use pings to harass others, and that can also be punished.

KEI143's post is spot on, I just want to add a couple things.

If a player is reported in a game, their behavior in that game will be analyzed by the system. More than one report against a player doesn't make it look any harder at the game, or make that game count for anything more. If it finds the report to be accurate, it simply flags that as one game against your account. Then, it will use the severity and frequency of flagged games to choose when to issue a punishment, and what level of punishment to give.

And not sure who you're talking to that says pings alone aren't sufficient. Frankly speaking, that's about all the further a vast majority of players take communication in the game. I see quite a few games go by with almost nothing said in the chat, but there's constant team communication happening via pings.

And heck, even if you don't use pings and never talk, it's not that big of a deal. You can get a lot of information from body language alone. If you don't want to be the one actively steering the team around through pinging objectives and such, you don't have to. As long as you're playing with the team, it's fine.

i wish i could remove the chat box from my game tbh, it would be really helpful.
