"Kys" is treated as hate speech, so it's an automatic escalation to a 14-day if reported, I believe. That's the way the system works. If you're perma'd, it's because you've been warned about your behavior before and it wasn't your first offense.

While you may disagree with the policy, the majority of players feel very strongly about having that kind of language/attitude in their games. Because of that, whether or not you agree with it, it makes sense to punish it very strictly.

A person told me to kys, among other insults and slurs, and they're still playing two weeks later. I guess the rules don't apply to some people.

Um... yes. 2 weeks is 14 days. Meaning once his ban was over, he could go back to the game.

I think Elixors means that it's been two weeks and action has still not been taken against the guy that flamed him.

Which doesn't mean that the rules don't apply to some people, but rather simply that folks sometimes get away with breaking the rules. Maybe nobody reported them.

I reported them and they were still not banned. I even submitted a ticket and they told me they were punished. And yes, I meant that they were playing every day for two weeks since they told me to kys.

Riot uses a tiered punishment system, with each punishment getting more and more harsh as you continue to ignore the warnings that your behavior is not acceptable. Riot has tried stuff similar to a perma mute before, and it only led to an increase in gameplay related offenses if I remember right, so their current system makes sense.

You are responsible for your own behavior, so it's up to you to mute others before you feel like saying something you are going to regret.

But i don't see how a permamute wouldnt fix these issues and there may have been an increase in gameplay offenses but thats a lower percentage of players than there are flamers 90% of your "toxic" players just want to win so if they get perma muted most wont grief.

That's your opinion. You have no data to back this up. You just think that it would be like this, but you can't possibly know.

In MY opinion I think people who want to flame but can't will find other ways to express their toxicity.

There was enough of a rise in gameplay related offenses that Riot completely rebuilt their system. That's not cheap, and they felt they had good reason to do it. Considering how low toxicity is now compared to how it was back then I'd say they chose wisely.

As I said you are responsible for your own behavior. Put a filter on yourself, don't ask others to handle it for you. This game is more rewarding when you don't feel the need to spread negativity in chat, so you'll be doing yourself a favor.

Most players, when they make a bad play, are not actually so self absorbed that they can't recognize it as a mistake. You're not being constructive and helping them notice something they need to know, you're rubbing salt in the wound by being captain obvious. No one needs you to sit there and point a finger at every mistake they make.

That's not human nature, that's being an asshole.

They already tried a perma-mute like system (it was endlessly stacking chat restriction). They found that the people who would have been perma'ed, but instead received what might as well been permanent chat restriction, just found other outlets for their poor behavior. Many of these outlets, such as trolling, is much harder to detect.

Saying "KYS" is an automatic 14 day ban. Advocating self harm and hate speech automatically gets the upgraded punishment.

Well not only are you basically hating on someone for playing a champion they like, but you basically not only wished harm by saying you wanted to bash their head in, but also told them to kill themselves. Both of which are pretty damn excessive especially since this is all over a video game!

I said bashing my own head into a wall is more fun and second of all every damn player in the game says Kys if you take it seriously you've got more issues than the way you play league and i guess telling someone in advanced that I'm going to be salty when they kill me and that if i say anything about them sucking its more so my feelings against the champ than them is toxic too warnings are bad after all

Let me ask you an honest question.

Do you think telling somebody to kill themselves, jokingly or otherwise, is an appropriate way to communicate with your fellow man? I don't care what you think other people do or say, I want your personal feelings on the subject.

I will admit this might sound horrible and messed up but no i think jokingly telling someone to do it is fine and dont pull the high and mighty stick. let me guess you laugh at most memes made nowadays right? and 90% of jokes nowadays on the internet could be considered offensive? is it wrong for me to make one joke like that when people make jokes about national travesties, the holocaust, hiroshima, slavery, rape, anything bad you name it. and if you or someone else cares so highly about what others say you really shouldnt be on the internet in the first place.

I can say that this rarely, if ever, happens to me in games. If it happened to you, that still doesn't make it ok for you to repeat those actions.

Players queue up to enjoy a game and maybe notch a win. They don't come here to have to read "kys." That to me says you're more focused on harassing a player than anything else.
