Why do low elo players give up so easily.... ?

I don't get it. Why do people give up so easily in low elos ? After hard failing my placements matches I ended up in gold 4, so am steadily making the climb back to plat 1 - d4 where i peaked last season. One really annoying fact i have noticed is that in at least 1/5 games i have played in gold people just give up for no reason in the first 10m... Like someone gets camped or makes a mistake and dies twice and immediately people just go "ff 15" and "Jungle dif" and so on. Like.. the other team has a barely a lead... at this point the game can still be won, why do people in this elo just give up and go afk or just int and grief at this point ?

Aren't we all playing to win ? Even if you play for "fun" as many claim they do, when you boot up the game or lock in your champ aren't you hoping for victory ? If you are why give up so early.. why not try a bit more ? If you are not, why are you even playing this game ? Or any other online multiplayer game ? I am neither a great nor a consistent player, I have been playing this game since the beta and it took me like 8 years to advance to plat and reach my current level. I have gone through all the phases, from the cute noob to the angry noob, to the "nice balance rito", "this champ is unfair", to the "I don't really care, I play for fun" and finally to the "I don't mind losing anymore but I want to win ! " And in all of those years although i have been punished for swearing with chat restrictions I have never been banned. I really cannot understand the whole "i give up EARLY and turn the toxicity dial to 300%", like why would a sane person act like this.

Anyone know whats up ?

(Pssst...it's not just low elo.)

Yeah, that's one of the most frustrating things about being a casual league player. People in our ELO generally aren't going to play for long stretches of time, so they expect what little time they spend on the game to be spent stomping the enemy team. When it's clear they'll have to come from behind, they'd rather skip to the next game in the hope that maybe that game is an easy win.

It's a short-term gratification thing.

Actually, some people don't play to win, I legitimately have had people say that they don't care if they win or lose. Or say something like "0 lp protected doesn't matter." Its not just low elo. Higher elo people just get better at knowing when a game is actually over.

Because they don't know that someone can carry them. Just let them know about your stats! Get back some morale. [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

For me, I don't give up unless there's a huge skill-difference showing up. Or the team not grouping up, wandering around like lost amoeba's or something. When I'm certain that we're not going towards a goal and people refuse to listen to pings (after not knowing what to do); I like to go NEXT! However, I've not played ranked much this season. Mostly pertains to last season and pre-season. I'd say that people are tilted, maybe? [sg-zephyr]

From my experience it's just mid-gold to mid-plat (maybe higher aswell, but that's a place I haven't been yet). In silver bronze and iron, people don't generally give up on the game until it's truly over. They might say ff, or try to surrender but they at least don't rq or run down mid when after they died twice in lane.

I think you're failing to see just how difficult it is to comeback anymore. That "small lead" is like entire items ahead with no response once you're behind.

An uphill battle for you could be an up mountain battle for others. For some it’s just easier to rush to the next game.

Boppas1/27/2020, 9:40:45 PM2 votes

They are low elo for a reason if they caried about the game they would try harder which they do not

Why do low elo players give up so easily.... ?

If you look at that question carefully, you'll realize that it answers itself.

Snowballing.

Linna Excel1/28/2020, 3:40:44 PM2 votes

I think that most low elo players have no idea if a game is winnable or not. So you get people refusing to surrender a lost game and people who give up on winnable games. This is compounded by the fact they have no idea on how to farm up, avoid bad fights while taking good ones, etc.

FeedKaylePlease1/28/2020, 5:16:05 PM2 votes

Like someone gets camped or makes a mistake and dies twice and immediately people just go "ff 15" and "Jungle dif" and so on.

Two deaths in lane in season 10 is game over. That is a massive lead. 95% of the time in low elo if someone gets a 2 kill lead in lane, they will turn that into a 7 kill lead by the time lane phase is done. They will then proceed to take over the game by murdering everything in sight. Waste of time playing it out if you fuck up and die twice in lane. Best to just ff.

DONT NEEEED TEAM1/29/2020, 12:58:14 AM2 votes

DrSheepington1/29/2020, 1:14:06 AM2 votes

Don't worry that's pretty much all elos. Tho tbh I think its more of a childish attitude that many younger players have. I've only gotten serious in ranked at the end of last season and managed to finally get myself out of bronze playing sion and Aatrox (I know I'm in silver and my opinion doesn't matter but). I quickly realised that most of my lost matches were around the hours of 5 to 8 pm Eastern time (NA) or on weekends and it correlated with when highschool closes. I started only playing on week days when I get some time off college work and my win rate started going up. I also get what seems to be more mature and calm teammates as most of them are adults who are on maleable work weeks or other college students with a more strategic outlook on the games they play. Its just that some ppl aren't mature enough to see possible wins when they lose lane.

TLDR : Maturity is a problem in most elo in my opinion

The vast majority of league’s playerbase is young and immature. Even the older players may not have matured yet. The kind of patience you are expecting is something that even people 30+ don’t necessarily show, let alone someone under 20. Knowing how to manage your emotions and tolerate lackluster situations is something that comes with time and experience, and is unfortunately not something that many of the players have had time to accrue.

i just played a game where i crucified enemy jungler to the point that he afked but my team loses one teamfight because they grouped for a mf ult and they flash the /ff vote. the /ff vote should not exist imo

sirus otter1/28/2020, 1:23:23 PM1 votes

well alot of the time its because of how riot made it so that matches that snowball end really fast. if the enmy team has 8 kills in the first 10 mins you might as well ff at 15 in most cases especially at low elo because... its low elo. do you really think your team is gonna know how to come back from a loss and play safe? i usually carry games whenever my team decides to listen to my shotcalling and ive come back from plenty of games that seemed lost, but alot of the times games are ending around 20 mins and that usually starts with just a few early kills and a dragon taken by the enemy team

riot tried to make games last longer... but in realitry they just made them end alot quicker

Vlada Cut1/28/2020, 1:32:24 PM1 votes

Cause they are crybabies who suffer from PTSD.

Especially low elo Draven or any adc mains, autofilled supports and junglers who can't even clear raptors.

LOL

Nithke1/27/2020, 9:31:28 PM1 votes

You're D4 apparently, If you're playing with golds you're probably hard stomping anyways, we may be silver and gold noobs but we can notice when some guy is smurfing so we just know when the game is lost and when matchmaking fucks us up.

I'm all for that "Never give up" kinda mindset but when you're silver 4 start a ranked and at 12 minutes botlane is 0/7 and gold 4 lucian has 14 kills and he is level 30, has 80% winrate and you're with bronze 2 mates, you just know.

e46 Fanatic1/27/2020, 8:13:26 PM1 votes

I thought it was the high elo and pro players that ff at 15 if they lose even the slightest advantage... in silver elo I usually play with people who Don't wanna give up at 15

Pombagira1/28/2020, 2:55:03 AM1 votes

Being a hardstuck silverlord I can tell you the many reasons why:

  • People in my elo spam ranked games nonstop for a couple of hours. During that time they usually lose a lot, and with each loss instead of taking a break they carry that burden to the next game... and the next game... and the next. You can see they're clearly tilted as soon as they die twice they just say "gg go next" and go roam towards a lane to farm till we surrender/win.
  • Some people are scared because as soon as they see a fed Lee Sin they think "Ok guys it's over he's 5/0 at 7 minutes we need to surrender. He's just gonna win." Lee could be the only one fed on that team too and they'll still say that. It's easier to give up than it is to actually try to win. People want an easy game victory without putting the effort in to win some games.
  • People put too much personal value in their games so if they're doing bad they think "I'm an awful player I should just give up."
  • The game could be really intense and toxic at the very start and they just don't want to deal with some crazy jungler Elise telling the top laner he's trash over and over and spam-pinging him or running it down top. Then the top laner feels worthless and just wants to leave and not deal with the toxicity anymore.

There's a lot of reasons.

I literally just let out a rant about this a few minutes ago.

I feel this so much. Every single game I have somebody gives up and either trolls or AFKs. Fuck, the rate between Games I play and AFK's I get in a game (Regardless of enemies or allies) is downright over a 1:1 ratio. I get at least one afk on either side EVERY SINGLE GAME and more than twice as likely on my side. Specially the last few days it was terribly bad. Since over a week, the AFK rate on my team has been deadass 100%.

Every game I play in normals SR I get an afk I have to deal with ontop of 8 raging monkeys abusing the keyboard like it's their spouse and kids arguing left and right about it with my team asking for sympathy and "Fair Play" from the enemy and the enemy deadass spitting in our faces with insults and how we deserve an AFK because "losers lose" (I can't make this up, someone legit said that to my team once) and I am just sitting here asking myself "Do I just mute everyone, fuck all and play in peace, risking to be reported as a Troll for trying to solo it all, OR do I also AFK, lay down in my bed, think about how bullshit this life is, turn to look at my pills, think about swallowing one too many, decide not to because my Ma would be sad and just sleep it out and try again knowing it's not gonna be any different and I'll be in this situation again?"

ESeTyRC1/28/2020, 4:10:09 AM1 votes

They don't know anything other than bashing heads with the enemy team.

Lose headbashing? Darn guess we can't win.

/surrender

Tele II1/30/2020, 12:53:09 AM1 votes

I actually thought that was a high elo thing. They know sometimes within 6 minutes how the game is going to end. Right matchup in mid, and a good roam/gank, its open mid, games over. Doesnt happen in my low elo games. I only see it on youtube videos of high elo players.

Starcraft243ver1/28/2020, 9:55:22 AM1 votes

The worse is when two of your hypercarry lanes are doing great but 3 others spam surrender because they're getting trashed and thus ends up costing the game.
