And yet, there is no button to turn off champion emotes or mastery emotes. Apparently flaming someone is bad, but tilting them with emotes and being an annoying prick is perfectly fine, ain' it? And then after the person gets annoyed, tilted and mentally exhausted by this bullshit and acts a bit out of order. Oh boy, here comes the punishment. :)

Why exactly is there NO OPTION to turn off this side of the game? Not everyone is built with the mental fortitude to endure it, why are we forced to go through it anyways tho?

Totally agreed.

Taunting and spamming emotes and whatever else by all means is being negative and abusive. However, Riot support and the users on here defend it as being acceptable behavior and being a part of the game.

It's just another example of Riot's inconsistencies towards behavior.

There's a difference. Taunting with your champion model and spamming emotes is not something direct to the other player -- that is, you're not physically aiming your champion model and taunting someone behind the monitor. Words however, are directed squarely from player to player.

Look at it this way:

Verbal abuse/griefing/et al always directly from player to player (through chat). Champion taunting/emote spamming is directly from champion model to champion model (ingame).

The first is toxic and against the summoner code, The second, while rude and annoying, is not a directed, pointed attack upon another player, and hence not punishable by the code.

I don't want it to be punished, I want it to be hidden. Thus the question as to why am I not allowed to hide with via an ingame setting or something. People can spam whatever emotes they want if it makes themselves feel better as long as I am not forced to watch it.

Technically the mastery emotes (as with all the emotes) are considered "flair", you know, like badges you wear on your uniform, showing off medals you've won, etc. They were made to show off your accomplishment on that particular champion.

Champion taunts are exactly that; the game was BUILT with a certain level of "BM" (bad manner), and is completely acceptable in this regard, since you are not directly verbally abusing another player. I would go so far even to say that taunting the enemy team in chat on occasion is also acceptable; the problem there lies in the fact that the majority of league players (as with gamers in general) don't really know how to walk the line between sportsmanly taunts, and verbal harassment.

Is it annoying? Sure. That's the point of people doing it, it's called a TAUNT for a reason -- one that is deemed acceptable by Riot since it is built into the game and not directly harassing any particular player. Is it tilting? It can be; perhaps you should work on inuring yourself more to them so as to not get tilted. Is it against the rules though? No.

Riot's logic has never made sense to me.

Things that are bannable: Bad words. Negative comments. Playing off-meta picks (OMG, Duo top? BANNED!), ~~paid account boosting~~, scripting, ~~being unsportsmanlike to other players~~.

Things Riot seems to deem acceptable: Raging at others for not slavishly following the meta, "gg ez", paid account boosting, poor sportsmanship/intentional attempts to anger or upset other players, anything said in champ select.

If you are attempting to upset another player, you are being a dick. No question. You are acting unsportsmanlike and being a huge asshole. But Riot not only permits this, but encourages it with mastery emotes and the like. Perhaps they know that the only thing most of their toxic-ass players care about is being jerks to each other and fluffing their own egos, so they're enabling them to keep the game afloat? That's my best guess.

I don't understand why we don't see this sort of response to people complaining about someone saying "ez" or calling a feeder "bad". I find it pretty odd that we don't see more complaints about mastery spamming and the like, given how ridiculously sensitive this games community is.

Gee, it's almost like some people play the game to relax and have fun or something. While some people might find hearing Zed's laugh five hundred funny, others find it really annoying and obnoxious. It's like a small child nagging for attention.

Personally I think the stupid mastery emote was the shittiest thing they've ever added to the game. It was basically a go-ahead to a million bro-tards to act like obnoxious assholes to other people.

Using ingame features such as taunts and emotes to mentally tilt the enemy team isn't something toxic or negative; verbal abuse however, is.

There's a big difference between something that is non-verbal and confined to the limits of what the game itself allows (you can't make your champion flip someone the bird, for example), and something that is verbal through text chat and completely open to whatever the player wants to say.

Yes it fucking is. That's like saying a racial slur isn't offensive because it's a made-up nonsense word. If you are acting in a way to cause others grief, you are an obnoxious bastard and a poor sportsman, which IS against the freaking summoners code. It would cost so very little to have muting someone shut off their emotes and pings, but Riot does do it? Why? Because the swaggering douchebag bros who spam mastery, spam /laugh and act as dickish as they can to upset people without actually typing bad words in chat is probably 90% of their playerbase.

Um... I'm not gonna start using them but dude... like almost all of the ones I know aren't really used for anything outside of being racist. Likewise... your mastery emote might just be an emote but almost EVERY time it's used, it's to BM and be a douche to someone. I'm sure there WAS a non-offensive meaning behind a bunch of racial slurs that I can't use lest this post be flagged and banned, but they aren't used for those meanings anymore... and they likely weren't used for those meanings much THEN either.

Just like your mastery emote that you love to spam. Now I won't pretend mastery spamming is as bad as spewing racial slurs. What I AM saying is that the only reason mastery spam is used is for the same reason. To upset people. Or once in a blue moon, to make fun of yourself when you die like an idiot trying to make a play.

Actually, Riot has explicitly stated the opposite. Riot absolutely has punished players for abusing built-in features.

And if players want to mute, or otherwise not see mastery emotes, Riot should create the option for them to do so. Because some people are bothered by them, and would have a better game experience without them.

Spamming mastery is exactly the same thing as saying "ez", or "I'm good", or "your bad", and it is directed to the individual player(s) they are around. Especially if you are in a single lane, where most of the spamming of masteries happens. It is RIOT approved poor sportsmanship.

At the very least, allow the mute button to stop the mastery and emote spamming.

I was actually going to start another thread about this exact same topic.

Seems like mastery spamming has gotten much more frequent and out of control.
