Toxic Behavior And You

Hey there everyone, take a seat, grab your coffee, and sit back and enjoy my rant. I am a pretty experienced player, with a little over 2 years of playing league under my belt. I have played this game so long that i cant find the same enjoyment anywhere else, i have lived for playing this game to the point where it has impacted my mental stability from depression to breaking things. But I'm not here to talk about me as much as you. I have come here today to talk about the overwhelming amount of toxicity going on throughout the rift. Let us talk about the types of toxicity that i have observed over the years, but before we do that lets look at the real definition of toxicity. Being toxic is someone affecting another players game by saying verbal harassment or what we call trolling. Wrong, the average league player sees toxic as this term for basically typing anything other than ggwp or something hilarious or funny in chat. Example, "we lost the game because mid fed so hard." this is not a form of toxic behavior rather someone stating a TRUTH statement. See i would agree with the original definition but, i have seen things from our so "perfect" community that you would think is wrong if you look at it from a different perspective.

Urban Dictionary's Definition of Toxicity- Toxic is a group of people who are rude and can't be nice. They are not true to people around them. They need an attitude check. Their personalities are so unappealing its make the people around them suffer and turn rude as well.

Riot Lyte's Definition of Toxicity- someone who is racist, homophobic, rages all game, and leaves the game.

My definition- Someone who rages all game, negatively impacts others based on what they said (if it is bad), or trolls/afks.

Average Toxic Player: The average toxic player in League of Legends is one to curse, flame, or spout out slurs that some might find disturbingly offensive to their religion, race, gender or just in general. examples as such consist of something like these "LOL, fucking noob soraka sucks ass, hope she/he dies of cancer tonight." "wow you are fucking Muslim you caused 9/11 and did everything" (proceeds to spend the rest of the game bashing this person for their religion) "fucking %%%%%%s everywhere always making our lives hell i hope slavery becomes a thing for them again." These are basic sayings from average toxic players.

High Elo Toxic Player: I see an overwhelming amount of these within plat and diamond 5 more than everywhere else in the game. These people believe that they are a pro player reincarnated and that everyone else is holding them back. They blame everyone for their mistakes and if they lose its never what they did wrong. You will see their match history about 90% losses and their rank something like diamond 5 and they think they are gods because they got there. Some how on a whim they managed to get carried to their ranks and think they are better than everyone. Pretty sure everyone has seen this type of person among the rift before.

The "Victim": This player says everyone abuses them even though basically nothing has happened. Something sets this player off like for example, this person calls mid and i say pick order sorry and pick mid. The player then continues to ask others for sympathy/empathy and blame the person who took the role all game by saying they are bullying/harassing them or being toxic all game. They say everyone is against them and generally are just straight condescending throughout all of the game.

The Hostage Taker: Says something like "mid or feed/afk" and proceeds to say you will lose if they don't get their way. This puts everyone on "Tilt" and proceeds to make everyone else around them toxic. This player impacts solo-que so much these days its annoying. When a single player can have the ability to decide if you win or lose it drives people nuts and basically destroys more games for the rest of the day.

And now for the one you guys least expected...

Yourselves: This makes up an overwhelming 80% of the community. You generally look at the rest of the community as not as good as you, or you are better than everyone, basically this condescending attitude towards everything. You think you are this perfect little angel who believes they deserve everything and if anyone makes you mad or gets in your way they deserve a report. You will find yourself angry at someone when they say "we lost bc bot lane fed" and you were on bot lane. You will end the game by reporting people for saying anything in chat if you lost or are in a bad mood. You believe that if a person says anything other than ggwp or positive things, that they are toxic and obviously deserve a ban. But unbeknownst to themselves they do the same shit every day to other players. You are all a bunch of fucking hypocrites and you need to better yourselves before getting others who act the same as you punished. Because since they act like you, why should you not be restricted/banned too?

Now i know what you are thinking, this guy says I'm toxic clearly I'm not i have never been restricted ever omfg this guy is toxic yada yada yada bullshit after bullshit. I don't want to hear this shit in the comments. To truly not be toxic or set a good example for others you must look at yourselves and accept you are not perfect. Don't ever report people for saying something as simple as "we lost bc bot lane fed". Matter a fact don't report anyone for anything other than if they are really toxic by that i mean these people disrupt the game so much they put everyone on your team on tilt. You are not perfect neither is anyone else, stop acting like you are. You know its sad when only about 5-10% of the community is found as really not toxic. I want you guys to say things in chat more often instead of being afraid of stupid responses from kids on the internet. Say things like "gj getting first-blood man!" or "nice gank!". Use emoticons like XD, :), or :^) more. If someone makes a mistake tell them what they could have done better, and if someone gives you constructive criticism don't be a fucking bitch about it, they are only trying to help. Also things like BMing such as /all Rekt IS NOT TOXIC STOP SAYING IT IS! One last thing, Riot please release the true meaning of toxic behavior and put it no your front page in a video that purely explains how it works. Thanks for listening...

I think you forgot to add that people plat+ generally tend to have the attitude that if you don't meet their ranking that you are a bronze 5 chimp behind a computer. That you're utterly useless and not as good as them despite your score.

You see, the thing is, Riot lets the community report whoever for whatever they want. If Riot doesn't get to dictate when people can report someone, you certainly cannot. This is called a "community driven" punishment system. People report for whatever they want, and, if a large number of people report some person, it's assumed that the majority of the community disagrees with whatever said person is doing.

I care nothing for toxicity. Words on a screen is a new age problem for you social justice warriors and thin skinned millennials. The only thing that disrupts my enjoyment are trolls. They should be permabanned while curse words get a slap on the wrist. Instead, I am always reading a constant stream of bullshit threads where trolls are defended (by others trolls no doubt). "Maybe someone is just having a bad game." STFU. You seriously can't tell the difference between "suck" and Troll?

Please... I wish every troll was transformed into a tryhard rager. I would mute them like you should do and play on.

Here's the problem with that.

Someone does bad in a game. You go up to them and say "You're not very good. I'll help." Seems like an innocent statement, does it not? The problem is that you've already told them that, in your opinion, they're not very skilled right off the bat. Sometimes, people don't like criticism. Now, if you instead started out by saying "Hey, want some help / advice?" they might be more receptive since the perception is that you're not judging them from the start.

Of course, there are those that no matter how you approach them, they're going to be negative. For those, you just walk away and don't offer to help them any longer. Then if they come to you in the future and ask for help, it suggests they are more receptive to your advice. They're the ones getting things started. Now, me. I might still help if I decide they are being sincere. Otherwise, I'll respond with "But you didn't want help earlier. Why are you asking now?" I do so because I want to understand their decision to ask for help. I don't believe in wasting time. If they get uppity and walk away, they didn't want to learn after all.

I see no advantage to typing out things like "rekt," or "you fed, u suck." Does anyone really think it will improve things? Granted, the numbers will show that they did die twelve times. But I don't see the logic in pointing it out. Frankly, if you're the type to die twelve times and not realize that is not what you're supposed to be doing, I'll just make it a point to not play with you. Even to the point of switching to another game just to get away from you. But that's just me. Others are not so dismissive. But soliciting an unsolicited opinion, more often than not, just does not help. In this day and age, if people were a little less willing to keep tossing their opinion out there, we'd have a lot less issues in the world.

Video games should be a neutral place for everyone.

If you don't like what they say then put them on ignore and that's the end of it.

I'm not a supporter of racism or slurs or anything of the sort, but I do believe in freedom of speech especially as an anonymous person in a video game.

Stop trying to control other people through your victim mentality.

No one forces you to play this game.

Everyone should be able to say whatever they want whether you like it or not.

TLDR: Toxic is a buzzword for those with small vocabularies. It means anything you don't like. Report all toxic players.

Troll Armada12/28/2015, 11:54:32 AM1 votes

Here's the problem. Now that the usual gangs of toxic trolls are aware that their BS might actually have consequences, some of the more stubborn ones have adapted and now resort to more devious passive aggressive tactics.

For instance, I recently had a known troll I was placed into yet another match with despite having reported and blocked the burger, so I already knew what to except, but rather than the usual: "ima feed, what u gonna do about it?" he cried about he didn't want anyone to ban a certain champion because he was going to play it. The enemy team chooses this not so common champion as the first pick and the troll says "F! now what?" then picks a troll pick and feeds all game and talks about how OP the champ is...

....so obviously, through some method, I don't know how, they queued up into a match where they somehow knew who was on the other team and arranged the whole situation. AND THIS HAPPENS A LOT. Now, how would Riot even detect this type of behavior? They can't... So the point of this whole post was that sometimes things are more subtle than they may initially appear.
