Can someone explain to me what I did wrong?

I was reported and given a chat ban because of this game, and I don't understand what I did wrong. We had a Kassaddin who started feeding on purpose, even admitted in chat he was feeding on purpose yet I'm the one who gets punished. It seems like anyone can report anyone for anything and the person reported will be given a penalty which makes me really scared to put any money into my account if I'm just going to get banned for no reason. I'm assuming it was the enemy Kassaadin who reported me because he knew I was going to report him for feeding... so one person reports me for no reason and I get a penalty?

Ok, this is one of those cases where there might be a false positive in the system.

Go to support.riotgames.com and open a ticket for a suspension in error. You will probably get an automated answer the first time, answer to that and you might actually get somebody that reads your case.

Are you sure that's the entire chat log? Unless they are muting people for claiming to report now I'm not sure.

Technically asking for reports is against the rules so what I assume is that you are a relatively new player whose played games are low so the ratio to reports to played games triggered the system, or you are toxic in other games and the kass who reported you was the straw that broke the camels back.

Personally I don't think these logs are bad enough to warrant even a warning.

Yeah, that's why we're clarifying. Now let's dive into the details of this one to clear this up.

You're playing adc (in 2017), and everything's going fine. But then your jungler blows a gank mid and your midlaner goes off the deep end. They pop off with "Report troll jungler" in all chat and other, worse bullshit. Even if the other team reported that jungler, the jungler wouldn't get hit with a penalty because they didn't actually do anything wrong. However, if the jungler reports the midlaner, they're likely to get hit with a penalty depending on just how much they tilted and their game-over-game history with that type of talk.

Where the confusion creeps in is when you try to reduce things down to: Does "X" mean penalties. Instant Feedback only works that way with hate speech and threats of harm. That's the sort of harassment the team is much more focused on. Report calling is often a minor negative thing, but say there's a spectrum of chat where 1 is hyper-friendly, 5 is neutral, and 10 is literal death threats, this is like a 6.

It is punishable when it turns into harassing someone for their mistakes through report calling.

In which case it is the_** harassment**_ that is getting punished. You don't get punished for asking for reports.

It's also a factor in punishment. On it's own, it's not punishable, but as I quoted, in combination with other mild toxicity it can trigger punishment

I don't read it the way you do. What you quoted, in my opinion, falls in line with what I said, AND is consistent to what I have experienced over many years of playing League and isn't really relevant to my post anyway.

I said that asking for reports isn't an offense, and you just agreed with that. "On it's own, it's not punishable"

Therefore, telling people that asking for reports is an offense IS spreading misinformation. Which is what I pointed out.

One might think that the entire point of this exchange is just for you to be argumentative with me. Which doesn't bother me. I find that you rarely add anything of any value to a conversation, but that just my opinion.

I would also agree that I rarely add anything of value to any conversation, but my name isn't blue and I'm not held to the same standard that you should be.

I'm certainly not trying to be argumentative, and I try to add value to the conversation, but you're free to your opinions on each.

The part that leads me to believe it is not neutral is where the Rioter explicitly says it's higher than a "5" on the scale. We are both free to interpret it as we will. I will admit I tend to err on the side of being more safe than sorry to help people avoid any chance possible of being punished.

The asking for reports was really the only thing that was wrong. I don't see anything else you'd be reported for. I find most of your chat to be pretty positive.

This is the entire chat log... I didn't cut anything. And I wasn't asking the other team to report Kass, I was asking my own team if we were going to report Kass? If I can get a penalty for that something seriously needs to be changed.. How does this system even work? I thought real life people looked at people's report cases and judged if a penalty should be issued or not. But it seems like any premade group can decide to report someone on their team they dont like for any reason... and they get penalty for it..

Okay so based on this information I would say you were likely toxic before and the system that decides when you have too many reports finally was like "okay have to issue a chat restriction". Despite the fact that you didn't really say anything wrong. You can contact riot support and dispute it if you'd like.

Not anymore, they took down the Tribunal ages ago since so few people actually used the system and then there were assholes you just spammed punish for no reason or the same with pardon. Too many reports these days to look after every single one of them.

That being said 9 reports are the same as one, the amount of reports you get means nothing it is how often you get reported that causes flags to get raised.

Your best bet, send a support ticket to ask why you were punished, if it was an honest mistake, this can be reverted and likely compensated in some way:
