Is there any reason this game has the angriest player base of any game?

I'm beginning to wonder if there is some study not yet done that describes why players are so irrational and filled with hate with this game in particular?

Is it the reliance on teamwork, coupled with the skill gap and knowledge base of purchases? The amount of situational awareness required to not charge into that enemy line 1v5 and blame your team for not backing you up? Don't know if there is another post that explains this phenomenon when a game gets this big, the player base just turns into rage babies - in unranked "fun" games of all things.

I just end up putting people on ignore, but if that's the case, why am I not playing a single player game?

The automatic response to "GL HF" at the start of the game is usually "kill yourself" or "fuck you", my team or otherwise, and I'm just failing to comprehend the player base.

there's many reasons this game is so aggravating.

Game times last much longer then many other game's time, thus when 1-2 of your teammates are trolling, you could be playing a 4v5 or 3v5 for upward of 45 min.

Oh you dont want to be held hostage? too bad, try and leave and you will be banned, despite your team intent feeding.

as long as you don't type anything, you can literally run it down mid, and never be banned

Being stuck in the game with no way of leaving for 40 mins, possibly in a role or champ you don't want is what causes the most toxicity of all.

I play CSGO now and I enjoy it a lot more. I can carry if my teammates blow, we have mics and if someone is trolling, they get kicked.

a combination of things make this game the most toxic ever created.

in my opinion the worst is the 'you cant leave' thing. the games are looong and if you are having a bad time for any reason, too bad you are stuck until the end. that means a lot of games are 40+ mins of torture for someone who just wants to leave. not a design that makes people happy.

another big thing is how the game snowballs. when one of your teammates die, they arent only effecting themselves. they are making your enemies stronger. the more they die, the less fun you will have because eventually they will snowball your opponents into unstoppable monsters that there is no way you can fight. its hard not to be at least a little bit angry in that situation.

there is more but i believe those are the 2 biggest reasons. the unpleasantness the game itself creates then spreads to the players. when someone isnt having fun they lash out at other players who get upset and spread the hate to others. the toxicity of the game itself infects most everyone and the result is the angriest playerbase of any game ever created.

Matchmaking is pretty bad at low level, matching level 10-20s with golds, someones going to feed hard regardless. This makes your first 20-30 games just a pain in the ass until the matchmaker finally is a little more reasonable, by then you've probably already been flamed to the point of wanting to quit the game many times. The more that skill/experience matters in the game, the more imbalanced games can become if the matchmaking is messed up.

These two were being overly offensive for no reason after a game. I have no idea what triggered them or they're just immature.

I'd beg to differ. A CoD game has so much worse going on in it, but rounds of CoD last like 5 minutes at most, then you move on to the next team. Whereas League is a 35-minute ordeal per match. I find the majority of players to be better than most other communities, but the fact that the matches are so much longer makes the negative experiences really stick out like a sore thumb.

Have you ever played Call of Duty on Xbox live? That is 1000% more toxic than any game of league I have ever experienced.

It's the competitive nature of the game and the fact that it requires teamwork with people you have no emotional connection with. I have friends who are terrible at the game but I rarely get angry with them, but it's really easy to get upset with some random faceless stranger who fucks up or you think is fucking up. I've noticed the same kind of behavior with any kind of fast paced multiplayer game like team fortress, dota, cod, counterstrike, and even overwatch. People don't like to lose and on average people lose about half of their games. People also remember bad experiences much longer and more strongly than good experiences so after a while all the bad games and lost fights accumulate to this huge feeling negative feeling that easily resurfaces whenever something bad happens to trigger the bad memories.

To put it simply, its game that punishes you for your teammates playing poorly. And its not like other games where you can just leave.

The games last longer, so the hatred burns into you longer as you end up queued with assholes.

If it were just a normal shooter you play in passing like CoD or something, you could hop in and out of matches no problem when someone pissed you off enough.

In League, you have to sit there and eat it for a solid 20 minutes minimum. And if they're feeding on top of it, you get dicked on for the same amount of time by the enemy with an irreversibly small chance of ever coming back.

I honestly think its just because of team size and game length. If you play a game like COD or battle field teams are generally larger so if one players doing terrible it generally goes un noticed, players who are also doing terrible can just leave the game with no consequence and are then replaced by other people. In games like rocket league which has insanely small team sizes even teams of 2 it has less toxicity just because of how short the games are like 5 minutes long.
